The School of Economics, the University of Hyderabad in association with the Indian econometric society has been organizing a 3-day conference at the campus here in Hyderabad. The conference witnessed the presence of the most noted and celebrated economists across the nation. The director of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Prof Errol D’Souza has delivered a talk on the topic – “Public sector banks and credit allocation”. The talk focused on the overlending proposition by the public sector banks. He started the session with a brief light on the bank's nationalization history and how it is labeled as the measure for poverty alleviation and financial inclusion. D’Souza has hinted bleak situation of PSBs by hinting at the fact - the market capitalization of PSBs with a 60% asset base is lower than private banks with a 5% asset base like HDFC, especially after the Asset quality review 2016, which highlights the problem of NPAs.

The School of Economics, University of Hyderabad in association with the Indian econometric society has been organizing a 3-day conference at the campus here in Hyderabad. The conference witnessed the presence of most noted and celebrated economists across the nation. The director of NCAER, Dr. Poonam Gupta has delivered a talk on the topic – “Building better Global Financial safety nets for emerging markets and for India”. The talk focused on the reversal of the capital flows and how they induce the financial volatilities in the financial markets of the emerging economies which can be effectively addressed by the strengthened global financial safety net. The talk built more interest as India is going to chair G20 this year which has Global financial safety net as one of its agendas.

In his Welcome speech, Prof. Debashish Acharya mentioned the gratitude of the honor while thanking all the dignitaries, faculty, research scholars, and students. He highlighted the specialty of the event by addressing the macroeconomic gains that this session would bring out. He also mentioned about the honorary presence of several dignitaries in the field of econometrics, whose wise advice would be fruitful for the scholars. He pointed out the greatness of the event by highlighting that more than 600 papers had been received, which was almost double than that of past conferences, out of which 400 papers had been accepted.
