The Centre for Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies (CALTS), University of Hyderabad is hosting the International Conference on Dravidian Linguistics (ICDL-2016) and the 44th All India Conference of Dravidian Linguists (AICDL) from 16-18 June 2016
This is in commemoration with the bicentennial celebration of Francis Whyte Ellis’s (1816) publication of finding proof of the concept of a family of languages spoken in the subcontinent, later called as the Dravidian Family of Languages or South Indian Family of Languages by Rev. Robert Caldwell (1857).
The Dravidian Linguistics Association which met during its annual national conference held in June 2015 decided to launch a year-long program comprising of an International Conference and a number of seminars and workshops throughout the year. This is in consonance with the idea of promoting and invigorating the study and the synthesis of the knowledge of Dravidian Linguistics that is accumulated in the last two centuries largely through the efforts of Dravidologists like M.B. Emeneau, Thomas Burrow, Bh. Krishnamurti, P.S. Subrahmanyam, Kamil Zvelebil, and M. S. Andronov.
