METCON 2018 - medical education technology conference , themed “ NEED OF THE HOUR - COMPETENCY BASED MEDICAL EDUCATION “ is being held at Shadan Institute of Medical Sciences - Hyderabad.
In its strive towards a world class Medical Education Shadan Educational Society have once again proved its mettle in volunteering to conduct the 8th Medical Education Conference , a first by a private Medical College in the State of Telangana.
A 3 Day Conference with Participation of more than 500 delegates from all over the country focussing on various aspects of medical training and teaching with Objective to improve the quality of medical training by training the teachers is being held. The key purpose of the conference is to improve , assimilate, and execute newer methods in teaching the Indian Medical Graduates on par with world standards. The conference brings about new concepts in teaching and assessment methods helping to develop knowledge and clinical skills required for performing the role of competent and effective teacher, administrator, researcher and mentor. The conference also focuses clinicians to acquire competency in communication and behavioral skills , updated their knowledge using modern information and research methodology tools.
The Medical Council of India - MCI Regulations on Graduate Medical Education, 1997, made it mandatory for all medical colleges to establish Medical Education Units (MEUs) or departments in order to enable faculty members to avail modern education technology for teaching. In order to boost this activity, MCI has been conducting Faculty Development Programmes through selected Regional Centres, since July 2009. These Centres are located at institutions which have trained manpower in Medical Education Technologies (MET) and first among the unaided medical colleges is Shadan Educational Society and Dr VRK Womens Medical college who have partnered with regional center of MEU at Gandhi Medical College and held the conference at Shadan Institute of Medical Sciences.
The conference started on 5th Januray 2018 in its full embellishment at the Campus of Shadan Institute of Medical Sciences with complete participation from staff of both the Medical Colleges of the host society and delgates from all over India ,
workshops on scientific Programs were held on 1st day of event -
- Workshop on “ Skill Lab “ was held & facilitated by Dr P V Challam.
- Workshop on “ Communication Skills Curriculum “ was conducted by Professor NVN Reddy.
- Workshop on “ Newer Methods of Teaching & Learning “ was conducted by Professor David Swaroop.
The Inaugural function was Presided by the respected Secretary of Shadan Educational Society Madam Shadan Tehniyath , members on dias were Dr P. V Challam - President of Association of Medical Educationist & Principal Bhaskar Medical College, Dr G M Kishan Rao - Vice President of AME & vice Principal Shantiram Medical College , Dr NVN Reddy - Secretary of AME & Professor of Surgery Gandhi Medical College , Dr D Ramkishan - Treasurer AME & incharge Professor of Orthopaedics Gandhi Medical College , Dr A Subodh Kumar - Editor of AME news magazine, Dr Dinesh Raj Mathur - Dean of Shadan Institute of Medical Sciences , Dr A Y Chary - former addnl DME & Dean of Dr VRK Womens Medical College , Dr Vasantha Prasad - former DME & Medical Superintendent of Shadan Hospital , Dr A Bharathi - former superintendent Niloufer Hospital & Medical Superintendent Dr VRK Hospital along with joint Secretaries DR B P Ravi Kumar , Dr V Sunanda , Dr Mirza Nissar Baig , & Dr V Geetha.
The inaugural ceremony started with the verses of Quran , Lamp Lightening & a 2 minute silence as a Mark of respect in memory of the Late Chairman & Chief Promoter of Shadan Education & Allied Societies Dr Mohammed Vizarath Rasool Khan ; It was the vision of the late Chairman which gave the Educationist a platform to train and impart world class Medical education.
Madam Shadan Tehniyath released the News Magazine of the Association of Medical Educationists & Momento’ were presented to the dignitaries and the event concluding with National Anthem.
Afternoon session was held discussing Changing trends in Medical Education and what today’s student expect from faculty.
Managing Director Dr Mohammed Sarib Rasool Khan in a press release have Welcomed all the esteemed delgates to the conference and expressed his contentment on the successful conduct of METCON 2018 , he thanked the President , Vice President and members of Association of Medical Educationist for giving him an opportunity to conduct the conference.He mentioned that Shadan Education Society was and will always be at the forefront for the cause of Medical Education in India - with a string of more than 57 institutions from KG to PG Shadan Educational Society has the distinction of Managing 4 Medical Colleges.
