ASA EXTENDS ITS DEEPEST CONDOLENCE TO THE FAMILY OF DR.Y.B.SATYANARAYANA

Dr. Y.B. Satyanarayana was a distinguished academic writer from Telangana who passed away on 14th October 2026. He was a Dalit activist, and co-founder of the Centre for Dalit Studies. Holding a doctorate in chemistry, he served as a college principal in Hyderabad for 25 years. His 2011 memoir "My Father Baliah" (HarperCollins) chronicles three generations of his family's fight against untouchability through the transformative power of education. His work remains a vital contribution to Indian Dalit literature. He was also very active during Pulyala Raju and Madari venkatesh fact finding cases, both of whom were institutionally murdered in University of Hyderabad. In this way he dedicated his life towards Dalit cause.

WHERE IS NAJEEB?

Najeeb Ahmed, an M.Sc.Biotechnology student in Jawaharlal Nehru University, mysteriously disappeared from his hostel of Mahi-Mandavi on October 15, 2016.Ten years later, his mother Fatima awaits justice. Najeeb's disappearance occurred immediately following a documented instance of targeted violence and physical assault inside his hostel by members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). This incident was not an isolated scuffle, but part of a broader, deeply concerning pattern of politically motivated intimidation and Islamophobic targeting directed at minority students on higher education campuses. The institutional handling of Najeeb's case-marked by initial administrative delays, a lack of immediate custodial interrogation of the accused, and the eventual closure of the investigation by the CBI reflects a troubling systemic failure to protect vulnerable students. ASA stands in unwavering solidarity with Fatima Nafees and the family of Najeeb Ahmed in this fight for justice.

HAPPY DHAMMA CHAKRA PRAVARTAN DIN

On October 14, 1956, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, alongside over half a million followers, formally renounced Hinduism and embraced Buddhism at Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur. Ambedkar believed that for untouchables to gain self respect and equality, converting to other religion was necessary. He spent over two decades researching various world religions after his 1935 Yeola declaration, "I was born a Hindu, but I will not die a Hindu". In his writings and speeches explaining his
preference for Buddhism over other world religions, Babasaheb emphasized it's rational and humanistic foundation:“I prefer Buddhism because it gives three principles in combination, which no other religion does. Buddhism teaches Prajna (understanding as against superstition and supernaturalism), Karuna (love and compassion) and Samata (equality). For him this conversion is not merely a change of personal belief, but was a radical social revolution.

CONDEMN CASTEIST VILIFICATION OF SAHIL WAKODE

The Ambedkar Students’ Association (ASA), University of Hyderabad, strongly condemns the institutional murder of Sahil Wakode at IIT Bombay and the ongoing casteist media trial against him.IIT Bombay guidelines explicitly state that in the case of alleged exam indiscipline, the invigilator must confiscate material, issue a fresh answer book, and allow the student to complete the exam. Prof. Suryanarayan Doolla violated these guidelines by escorting Sahil out, intimidating him with threats of a year-long suspension, and denying him his right to complete the exam. Support from faculty forums and biased media narratives aim to protect perpetrators and delegitimize democratic accountability.
Key Demands:
1.Release the complete exam hall and corridor CCTV footage.
2.Accountability from the IIT Bombay Director regarding student suicides.
3.State action against Prof. Doolla for explicit procedural violations.

ASA remembers the 20th death anniversary of Manyavar Kanshi Ram, the revolutionary founder of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). He believed that "Political power is the master key with which you can open each and every lock". Driven by this conviction, he created BAMCEF and DS4, paving the way for Dalit political empowerment. He famously gave the example of pen which depicts the social order in India i.e. 85% of the bahujans (pen) are ruled by the 15% of the upper castes (cap). His struggle reminds us that the liberation of the Bahujans must be led by the Bahujans themselves.

Join the Academic Council Meeting on 8th October at SLS

Delayed fund disbursement for TS-EPASS scholarship has left many SC, ST, OBC, and economically vulnerable students unable to complete semester registration on time or attend UGBM and faced difficulty to cast their vote. Despite the guidelines granting a seven-day window post-reimbursement, university administration continues to enforce rigid deadlines. The newly elected Students' Union 2026-27 promises to firmly raise this issue in the Academic Council Meeting on October 8th.
