📣 The Department of Sound Recording & Design, Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, presents the VOICES: Lecture Series with Varun Desai, an electronic music artist, producer, and educator.

✨ Through his performance-lecture Switched On India, Varun will explore the remarkable story of a rare Moog modular synthesizer installed at the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, in 1969—and its place in the evolution of electronic music in India.

🎉 Congratulations to Aniket Sinha, Riddhi Trivedi, and Vijay Pratap, students of the 6th Batch, Writing Department, Electronic & Digital Media (EDM) Wing, on being selected for the prestigious CININFO LAUNCHPAD Season 3.

✨ As part of the programme, they will be mentored by industry professionals Abhay Koranne (Writer-Producer), Manas Mittal (Editor), Shrishti Behl (Producer), and Devashish Makhija (Director-Producer) to develop their projects into pitch-ready concepts. 🎉 SRFTI Alumna Project Reaches Global Film Stage

💫 Suchana Saha, from the 14th Batch of the Animation Cinema Department of the Film Wing at the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, has been selected among the three final projects of the Asian Short Film Fund (ASFF) for her film How to Eat Tomatoes.

✨ Launched in 2025 by HKIFF Industry and NOWNESS ASIA, ASFF received submissions from almost 40+ countries, making this recognition a remarkable achievement on an international platform.

Suchana’s film will be screened at the Summer International Film Festival in Hong Kong in 2027 🇭🇰.

🎬 SRFTI alumnus Sanjay Chaturvedi has brought distinction to the institute through his work in film sound—a truly proud moment. He won the 'Best Sound Design' award at the 62nd Maharashtra State Film Awards for his work on the acclaimed Marathi film Sthal (A Match), directed by Jayant Digambar Somalkar.

💫 An alumnus of the fourth batch of the Audiography department (now Sound Recording and Design), Sanjay’s achievement stands as a testament to the artistry, impeccable skill, and dedication involved in crafting the "sonic world" of a film.

SRFTI to Japan🇯🇵: ‘Yakubu’ Heads to Nara!

🎉 Another student film from the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata, has stepped onto the international stage. SRFTI’s short film ‘Yakubu’ has been selected for the prestigious 9th Nara International Film Festival in Japan. The festival is scheduled to take place from September 19 to 23, 2026, with screenings of the film set for September 21 and 22.

Created by talented students from the 18th batch of the Filmmaking Department, ‘Yakubu’ represents a collaboration of diverse creative talents. The team includes:

💫 The Intersection of Law and Creativity

⚖️ While imagination forms the foundation of filmmaking, building a successful creative career also requires a sound understanding of rights, contracts, and professional responsibilities.

🎬 The Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI), Deemed to be University, Kolkata—organized a joint discussion and interactive session on 'Law and the Entertainment Industry' in collaboration with the Centre for Technology, Entertainment and Sports Law, West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS).

✨ Students, faculty, and Officials participated in the discussion, which was led by Professor (Dr.) Shameek Sen, Ms. Silpa Das, Ms. Ruchira Goswami, and Dr. Paramita Dasgupta. The session featured in-depth deliberations on critical topics such as constitutional and labor laws, contracts, gender equality and safety in the workplace, and intellectual property rights.

✨ We are thrilled to welcome Ashwath Bhatt to FTII Itanagar!

💫 A distinguished actor, theatre director, educator, acting mentor, and clowning practitioner, Ashwath brings over two decades of experience across theatre, cinema, and actor training. An NSD alumnus and LAMDA-trained in Classical Acting, Acting Instruction and Clowning, he is a pioneer of Red Nose Clowning in India and founder of the Theatre Garage Project.

🎬 His screen credits include Raazi, Kesari, Haider, Sita Ramam, Mission Majnu and The Diplomat, alongside collaborations with filmmakers such as Mira Nair, Meghna Gulzar and Vishal Bhardwaj.

🎭 We look forward to an enriching exploration of play, performance and physical storytelling as he leads an exclusive Clowning Workshop for MFA Screen Acting students at FTII Itanagar.
