🌸 World Breastfeeding Week 2026 | Weekly Activity Review 🌸
1st–7th August 2026
Sukh Sagar Medical College & Hospital, Jabalpur
Under the theme "Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works," SSMCH successfully conducted a week-long series of awareness, educational, and community outreach activities.
📅 1st August:
Health Talk for pregnant and lactating mothers on the importance of breastfeeding, along with awareness on the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI).
📅 2nd August:
Online Slogan Writing, Poster Making & Rangoli Competitions to encourage creativity and spread awareness about breastfeeding among students and healthcare professionals.
📅 3rd August:
Breastfeeding Awareness Quiz Competition to enhance knowledge and promote evidence-based breastfeeding practices.
📅 4th August:
Breastfeeding Awareness Rally with enthusiastic participation from faculty, students, interns, nursing staff, and healthcare workers to spread awareness in the community.
📅 5th August:
Interactive Health Education Session for breastfeeding mothers covering exclusive breastfeeding, myths & facts, and maternal nutrition.
📅 6th August:
Community Health Screening Camp at the rural practice area for pregnant women, lactating mothers, women of reproductive age, and under-five children, along with breastfeeding counselling and health education.
📅 7th August:
Valedictory Ceremony featuring prize distribution, recognition of participants, and a reaffirmation of the institution's commitment to promoting optimal breastfeeding practices.
The week-long celebration was jointly organized by the Departments of Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and Community Medicine, with active participation from faculty, residents, interns, nursing staff, students, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and the community.
Together, we strengthened awareness, empowered mothers, and reinforced our commitment to ensuring a healthier future through breastfeeding.

🌸 World Breastfeeding Week 2026 | Day 06 🌸

To observe World Breastfeeding Week a Health Screening Camp for Pregnant & Lactating women, women of reproductive age group and under fives was organised today in Jyotpur Subsidiary Health Center - a rural practice area of SSMCH.
Event was organised by the Dept of Community Medicine in collaboration with Dept.of Pediatrics and Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Camp activity concluded successfully with the help of local stakeholders and functionaries such as Community Health Officer, AWW, ASHAs and PRI representative.
We acknowledge the faculties and interns of Dept.of Community Medicine for their organizational efforts, faculties of Dept.of Pediatrics and OBGY for providing medical services and Mr Benjamin and Mr Sharma for logistics and transport arrangement.

🌸 World Breastfeeding Week 2026 | Day 04 🌸

As part of World Breastfeeding Week, the Department of Community Medicine, in collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, SSMCH, organized a vibrant Breastfeeding Awareness Rally and Nukkad Natak at Ghunsaur Village.
The rally was ceremonially flagged off by our respected Dr. P.K. Kasar, Dean, SSMCH, marking the start of the awareness drive with great enthusiasm and encouragement.
MBBS students and interns enthusiastically spread awareness on the importance of breastfeeding through a village rally, followed by an engaging role play demonstrating correct breastfeeding practices and techniques. The event, held at PM SHRI Government School, witnessed active participation from pregnant and lactating mothers, school students, and villagers.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Nilanjan Mitra, with the support of Dr. Suchismita Dutta, Dr. Anglica Kanaujiya, and Dr. Prateek Bhadaoriya (Department of Community Medicine).

We sincerely thank Dr. Deepti Gupta, HOD, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, for deputing the 2022 MBBS batch students, Dr. Rajeev Banzal, HOD, Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, for intern support, the Principal of PM SHRI Government School for hosting the event, and Mr. Abhishek Benjamin for the effective coordination and management of the programme.

Together, we continue to strengthen awareness and promote breastfeeding for a healthier future. 💙🤱

🌸 World Breastfeeding Week 2026 | SSMCH 🌸
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, SSMCH inaugurated World Breastfeeding Week 2026 with a Breastfeeding Awareness Community Programme.
The programme began with a welcome address and programme brief by Dr. Mamta Arora, followed by an enlightening talk by Dr. Kanaujia on the significance of World Breastfeeding Week and the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI). Dr. Ankita Siddharth Singh and Dr. Prakrati Samadhiya shared valuable insights on the benefits of breastfeeding for infants and mothers.
A powerful role play on breast and breastfeeding awareness by the MBBS students of the Department of Community Medicine was widely appreciated for its impactful message. Special credits to Dr. Mitra, Dr. Suchismita, and Dr. Prateek for mentoring the performance.
The event was graced by Dr. P. K. Kasar (Dean), Dr. Nipun Agarwal (Medical Superintendent), and Dr. Kavneet Khanna (Trustee), who appreciated the efforts of the organizing team and participants.

🌍 World ORS Day 2026 | Community Awareness Program at SSMCH
Sukh Sagar Medical College & Hospital successfully observed World ORS Day with a community awareness program focused on preventing dehydration through timely ORS use and proper hygiene.
The program was graced by Dr. Pallavi Londe, President, IAP Jabalpur, in the esteemed presence of Dr. P. K. Kasar (Dean), Dr. Nipun Agrawal (Medical Superintendent), and Dr. Kavneet Khanna (Trustee).
The event featured a live demonstration of the correct handwashing technique before ORS preparation, followed by a practical demonstration of Homemade ORS. Participants were also educated about the early signs of dehydration and the importance of timely ORS administration.
The program was organized by Dr. Jayant Vagha, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, and was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Reema Agrawal (Associate Professor), Dr. Anjum Usmani (Assistant Professor), Dr. Manju Kaushik (Senior Resident), and Dr. Preeti Sharma (Senior Resident), Department of Pediatrics.
Together, let's spread awareness, prevent dehydration, and save lives.
