FLOWX 2026 – Fluid Mechanics Project Challenge

The Department of Civil Engineering, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology Jalandhar, in collaboration with the BIS Jalandhar Chapter, successfully conducted FLOWX 2026 on 15 September 2026, on the occasion of Engineers’ Day.

The Fluid Mechanics Project Challenge aimed to promote hands-on learning, experimentation, and problem-solving among students.

The event encouraged students to move beyond theoretical concepts and Think, Build, Test
through a diverse range of working models and experimental demonstrations.

• Bell Siphon
• Hele-Shaw Flow
• Tesla Valve
• Fluidic Oscillator
• Heron’s Fountain
• Chaotic Waterwheel

A special highlight of the event was the presence of Prof. Carlo Gualtieri, University of Naples Federico II, Italy, who evaluated the students’ performances and interacted with the participating teams.

The projects showcased how fundamental principles of fluid mechanics can be transformed into creative, engaging, and working experiments, covering a wide range of phenomena such as flow through porous media, mixing and instability, density-driven flow, vortex dynamics, siphoning, and flow control.

FLOWX 2026 provided students with valuable experience in experimentation, teamwork, scientific communication, and connecting theoretical concepts with real-world engineering phenomena.

NIT Jalandhar Students Win National Bio Entrepreneurship Competition 2026

Students of the Department of Textile Technology, Mr. Pankaj and Ms. Mehak (B.Tech), have won the Student Teams category at the 9th National Bio Entrepreneurship Competition (NBEC 2026), organised by the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP).

The winning team secured a cash prize of ₹1 lakh for their innovative project, “Sustainable Khimp Fibre Extraction and Bio-Fabric Development for Rural Livelihood Generation and Eco-Friendly Textile Innovation.” They were recognized among the winning student teams at the Grand Finale held in Bengaluru.

Their work explores the sustainable use of Khimp (Leptadenia pyrotechnica), an underutilised natural fibre, to develop eco-friendly textile materials and create opportunities for rural communities.

With more than 3,200 applications received from across India, the achievement reflects the students’ efforts in research, innovation and sustainable textile development.

The students received guidance and mentorship from Dr. Mukesh Bajya, Department of Textile Technology. Their achievement was appreciated by Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, Director, NIT Jalandhar, Dr. Lalit Jajpura, Head, Department of Textile Technology, and faculty members.

NIT Jalandhar celebrated Hindi Diwas at the Institute on September 14, as part of Hindi Maah. On the occasion, the message of the Hon’ble Minister of Education, Government of India was shared and read out for the NITJ community.

The programme also featured self-composed Hindi poems by students, followed by “Mehfil”, featuring various creative expressions in Hindi.

The Alumni Affairs Cell, NIT Jalandhar, organised an interaction session with Mr. Saurabh Nanda, an alumnus of NIT Jalandhar (B.Tech. CSE, 2005–2009), who is an international youth mentor, career and education guidance expert, researcher and Founder of SN Mentoring.

The session focused on some of the challenges students often face, including overthinking, distractions, fear of failure and uncertainty about career choices, and how they can approach these challenges in a more practical way.

Drawing from his experiences, Mr. Saurabh Nanda encouraged students to understand themselves, reflect on their choices and take action instead of getting held back by the fear of outcomes. He also spoke about the difference between curiosity and distraction, and how staying focused while exploring new interests can help students better understand what they want to pursue.

The interaction also covered career exploration, practical skills, entrepreneurship and learning through experience, giving students an opportunity to engage in the discussion, reflect on their choices and think about their approach towards their careers.

The session offered students a chance to pause, reflect and look at their challenges and career choices from a more practical perspective.

International Symposium on Flood Modeling Concludes at NIT Jalandhar
The two-day International Symposium on “Advances in Flood Modeling and Computational & Experimental Hydraulics for Steep Mountain Streams” concluded at NIT Jalandhar, bringing together researchers and experts to discuss challenges related to flash floods in the Himalayan region.

The symposium featured 4 plenary lectures and 14 research presentations, with participation from experts from India, Italy, Canada and Spain. The programme was organised under the SPARC project of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

A key highlight was the presentation of a real-time Early Warning System that combines AI, Machine Learning, Large Language Models (LLMs), Digital Twin technology and IoT to support flash-flood prediction, including Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs).

The system is designed to generate flood hazard maps, provide real-time alerts on mobile phones and identify safer locations using digital terrain data, with the aim of supporting timely decision-making and improving disaster preparedness in vulnerable mountain regions.

Special thanks to our Honourable Director, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, for his continued support and vision, and to Dr. Mahesh Patel (PI) and Dr. Mohit Kumar (Co-PI) for leading this project. Gratitude also to Prof. Carlo Gualtieri (University of Naples, Italy) and all our international partners for their valuable contributions.

This is a major step toward flood-resilient infrastructure and disaster risk reduction in the Himalayan region.

The Department of Electrical Engineering, NIT Jalandhar, hosted an ANRF-sponsored one-week workshop on “Electric Vehicles for Sustainable Mobility” from 2-6 September 2026 at the Institute.

The programme brought together 40 participants and 12 expert speakers from academia, government organizations, and industry. It featured 15 technical and ceremonial sessions covering key areas such as emerging EV technologies, sustainable transportation, charging infrastructure, energy management, and the future of electric mobility.

The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the rapidly evolving EV sector through expert-led sessions and discussions. It provided an opportunity to gain insights into current technologies, implementation challenges, research opportunities, and emerging trends in electric mobility.

The programme also encouraged interaction and knowledge exchange among researchers, academicians, industry professionals, and participants, connecting theoretical concepts with practical aspects of electric vehicle technology and sustainable transportation.

The workshop concluded with a valedictory session, marking the completion of five days of academic discussions, expert interactions, and knowledge sharing.
