DAV College, Jalandhar Organizes National Seminar on World Philosophy Day
Jalandhar, March 16: Under the leadership of Principal Dr. Anoop Kumar, National Coordinator (Colleges), DAVCMC, DAV College, Jalandhar organized a National Seminar on “Critical Thinking and Philosophizing” on March 16, 2026 to commemorate World Philosophy Day. The seminar was jointly organized by the P.G. Department of Mathematics and the Department of Philosophy with financial support from the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi.
The programme began with the traditional Tilak ceremony, lighting of the ceremonial lamp, and the rendition of the DAV Gaan. Principal Dr. Anoop Kumar, Vice Principal Dr Kunwer Rajeev and Prof Sonika Dania accorded green welcome to all the resource persons. In his Inaugural adress, Dr. Anoop Kumar highlighted the importance of philosophy in nurturing ethical awareness, intellectual clarity, and analytical thinking among students.
The keynote speaker Dr. Satish Kapoor spoke on the significance of critical thinking in academic life and responsible decision-making. During session II Mr. Kanwarpreet Singh discussed the role of philosophical reflection in strengthening logical reasoning and how it matters in everyday life Dr. Aditya K. Gupta, in his adress, emphasized the value of questioning and dialogue in higher education. He stressed upon the need of holistic reasoning with relevant examples from ancient Indian literature. Sh. J. C. Joshi (Principal Retd.) shared insightful views on the philosophical foundations of reflective and independent thinking.
The seminar was meticulously organized and coordinated by the faculty members of the host departments. Prof. Monish Arora, HoD Mathematics, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the academic relevance of the seminar. Prof. Ranjita Guglani, Coordinator of the event, introduced the theme and later presented the report of the day. Dr. Dinesh Arora (Prof. Incharge Philosophy) contributed significantly to the overall coordination of the seminar activities. Dr. Seema Sharma supervised the welcome arrangements, while Dr. Ashu Bahl managed the registration process with the assistance of Ms. Prerna. The hospitality arrangements were overseen by Prof. Sahil Nagpal with support from Dr. Isha, and Prof. Jasmeen Kaur efficiently conducted the proceedings as the stage coordinator.
The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members from various departments including Dr. S. K. Khurana, Dr. Nischay Bahl, Dr Komal Arora Dr. Naveen Sood, Dr. Manoj, Prof. Pankaj Gupta, Dr. Sharanjeet, Prof. Ritu Talwar, Dr. Rajan Sharma, Dr. Lalit Goyal, Prof. Shweta, Dr. Ekjot Kaur, Dr. Balwinder Singh, Dr. Saruchi and students. In the concluding session, the dignitaries distributed prizes for the photography competition based on the theme “Philosophy in Real Life.”
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Dinesh Arora, expressing gratitude to the speakers, participants, and the Indian Council of Philosophical Research for their support. The programme concluded with a group photograph and lunch, marking a meaningful and intellectually enriching celebration of World Philosophy Day.

The Department of Mathematics, DAV College, Jalandhar, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized a DBT-sponsored one-day educational visit to Indian Institute of Technology Ropar on February 23, 2026 under the dynamic leadership of Principal Dr. Anoop Kumar. A total of 47 students enthusiastically participated in this enriching academic excursion. The Department expresses sincere gratitude to DBT for sponsoring this initiative and for continuously promoting scientific exposure and research-based learning among students.
The programme was coordinated under the guidance of Head of the Department Prof. Monish Arora, whose motivation encouraged students to actively engage in experiential learning. The students were accompanied by Dr. Seema Sharma, Prof. Sahil Nagpal (President, Bansi Lal Mathematical Society), and Prof. Jasmeen Kaur, who ensured the smooth and disciplined conduct of the visit. The Department also extended its appreciation to Dr. Ashu Bahl, Departmental DBT Coordinator, for valuable support and coordination. Prof. Ranjita Guglani played a key role in motivating the students for this educational trip.
During the visit, students explored the vibrant academic and research environment of IIT Ropar. A major highlight was their visit to iHub–AWaDH — Innovation Hub for Agriculture and Water Technology Development. At this centre, students gained valuable insights into cutting-edge research, technological innovation, startup incubation, and entrepreneurship development in the domains of agriculture and water sustainability. The exposure to the innovation and incubation ecosystem under the banner of IIC greatly motivated students to think creatively, pursue research-oriented learning, and understand the importance of transforming ideas into impactful solutions.
The educational tour combined academic enrichment with cultural exposure. Students also visited the sacred sites of Sri Anandpur Sahib and Mata Naina Devi, where they learned about their historical, cultural, and spiritual significance.

The visit proved to be academically enriching, innovation-driven, and highly inspiring for all participants.

DBT-Sponsored Awareness Session on IPR Held at DAV College, Jalandhar
The Department of Mathematics, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and Research & Development Cell of DAV College, organized an Awareness Session on “IPR for Innovators and Entrepreneurs” on February 18, 2026 under the DBT Star College Scheme.
The resource person was Dr. Ruchi Singla, CEO of RAS Intellect Solution Pvt. Ltd., an expert in Intellectual Property Rights and innovation management. She was accorded a green welcome and presented with a memento by Officiating Principal Dr. Kunwer Rajeev and HoD Prof. Monish Arora. The programme commenced with the DAV Gaan followed by a formal introduction of the resource person.
In his address, Officiating Principal Dr. Kunwer Rajeev motivated students to build enhanced academic and professional profiles through dedication, concentration, and focus in life. On this occasion, the prize winners of the E-Day Online Quiz were presented for awards by Prof. Sahil Nagpal, President of Bansilal Mathematical Society.
During her interaction with students, Dr. Ruchi Singla introduced the concept of Intellectual Property Rights and explained various forms of IPR, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and industrial designs. She elaborated on the patent filing process, prior art search, drafting of patent documents, commercialization of intellectual property, and discussed the role of IPR in startups, research, and entrepreneurship. The session was highly interactive, with participants engaging in discussions and raising queries related to patentability, technology transfer, and innovation protection, supported by real-life examples and case studies.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Ashu Bahl, IPR Coordinator,IIC.

Mathematics Gallery Exhibit held at DAV College Jalandhar
The Department of Mathematics proudly showcased its ambitious project “Infinitum Mathèmatique – The Mathematics Gallery,” established under the DBT Star College Scheme. The programme began with a formal welcome of the Chief Guest Principal Dr. Anoop Kumar followed by DAV Gaan. Dr. Anoop was accorded a green welcome by the Head of the Department, Prof. Monish Arora. In his welcome speech, Prof. Arora presented an insightful introduction to the vision and objectives of the Mathematics Gallery and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to DBT (GoI) for this enabling the department with creation of such an inspiring initiative.
Principal Dr. Anoop Kumar in his address emphasized the importance of experiential learning and highlighted the practical applications of mathematics in real-world problem solving.
A special highlight of the occasion was a thoughtfully curated video presentation by DBT Coordinator, Dr. Ashu Bahl, offering a virtual tour of the gallery and showcasing the creativity and dedication of the faculty as well as students. The gallery arrangements were efficiently coordinated by Dr. Seema Sharma, Incharge of the Gallery, while Dr. Sharanjit Sandhu, Dean, Research and Development Cell, graced the event and appreciated the initiative.
The programme was smoothly conducted by Prof. Ranjita, and the mathematical models were meticulously arranged by Prof. Jasmeen Kaur. Students actively engaged with the exhibits, working hands-on with the models and understanding the underlying mathematical concepts in an interesting and interactive manner.

Farewell Function Organised on the Superannuation of Dr. Poonam Kumar Sharma
A farewell function was organised by Staff Council , DAV College, Jalandhar, on the occasion of the superannuation of Dr. Poonam Kumar Sharma, Head of the Department of Mathematics. The programme was held in a warm and cordial atmosphere to honour his long and dedicated service to the institution.
The function commenced with the formal welcome of the Dr. Poonam Kumar Sharma .Dr. Monish Arora, the newly appointed Head of the Department of Mathematics, delivered the farewell address in honour of Dr. P. K. Sharma. In his address, Dr. Arora highly appreciated Dr. Sharma’s remarkable contributions to academic development, research excellence, and his efficient administrative leadership, which played a significant role in strengthening the department.
The Vice Principal of the college, Dr. Kunwar Rajeev, extended his heartfelt best wishes to Dr. P. K. Sharma for a healthy, peaceful, and fulfilling post-retirement life. He acknowledged Dr. Sharma’s commitment, discipline, and dedication towards the institution and the student community.

Dedication of the DBT-Sponsored Mathematics Gallery “Infinitum Mathématique” to the Academic Community on National Mathematics Day
The P.G. Department of Mathematics dedicated the DBT-sponsored Mathematics Gallery, Infinitum Mathématique to the academic community on the occasion of National Mathematics Day, 22 December 2025. The gallery was formally inaugurated by Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Principal, who unveiled the gallery plaque and performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The inaugural programme was graced by Vice Principal Dr. Kunwer Rajeev and Prof. Sonika Dania; Dr. Punit Puri, Overall DBT Coordinator; Prof. Ashok Kapoor, Registrar; Prof. Manish Khanna, Deputy Registrar; and Dr. S. K. Tuli, Former Head, Department of Mathematics, along with Heads of various Departments, faculty members and students.
To commemorate the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, Prof. Monish Arora and Prof. Sahil Nagpal (President, Bansilal Mathematical Society) specially curated “Ramanujan Walk”, highlighting his life and major contributions to mathematics.
The programme commenced with the DAV Gaan, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr. P. K. Sharma, Head, P.G. Department of Mathematics, shared that the concept of establishing a Mathematics Gallery was envisioned under the leadership of the Principal and realized through collective departmental effort. The gallery aims to promote experiential and outcome-based learning by transforming abstract mathematical concepts into visual and interactive representations.
The gallery houses eight college-level mathematical models, including the Möbius strip, generation of sine and cosine curves, surface of revolution, ellipse construction with varying eccentricity, Tower of Hanoi, and models demonstrating sections of a cone, offering students meaningful hands-on learning experiences.
In his address, Dr. Rajesh Kumar appreciated the initiative and described the gallery as a unique academic resource, noting that it is the only college-level Mathematics Gallery of its kind in the region .He emphasized that the gallery would serve as a valuable academic asset for generations to come.

The stage was conducted by Prof. Ranjita Guglani, and the guided walkthrough of the working mathematical models was arranged by Prof. Jasmeen Kaur.

Dr. P.K. Sharma Takes Charge as the New Head of PG Department of Mathematics

Jalandhar, April 1: The PG Department of Mathematics at DAV College, Jalandhar, marked a significant milestone today as Dr. P.K. Sharma officially assumed charge as the new Head of the Postgraduate Department of Mathematics.
