President Pranab Mukherjee has appointed J&K Governor N N Vohra as the first Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu for a period of five years.
After a notable academic career, Shri. N.N. Vohra served as a Lecturer in English in Punjab for two years before joining the Indian Administrative Service. During his illustrious administrative career (1959-1994) he held various important positions under the State and Central Governments. He served as the Punjab Home Secretary during a very difficult period post Operation Blue Star. With the Government of India, he served as Secretary Defence Production, Defence Secretary and Home Secretary. After retirement he was recalled to serve as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India, I K Gujral.
Shri. N.N. Vohra was a Visiting Fellow at the Oxford University, UK (1969-70). He was awarded Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) by Punjab University, Chandigarh, in 2011 for his distinguished public service for half a century. He was honoured with Padma Vibhushan, the Nation’s second highest civilian award, in 2007.
Shri. N.N. Vohra is the Life Member of United Service Institute, New Delhi; Institute of Defence Strategies and Analysis, New Delhi; Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi; and Honorary Life Member of International House of Japan, Tokyo. He also has the distinction of being a Life Trustee of The Tribune Trust, Chandigarh, and the Indian International Centre, New Delhi.
Shri N.N.Vohra took over as the 12th Governor of the State of Jammu & Kashmir in June 2008.
“His vast experience and advice will be immensely beneficial to the University which came into being only last year and is in the process of establishing itself,” said Dr. S.S. Bloeria, Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu.

The candidates listed in the relevant lists shown on the current page (through links mentioned under the category downloads) have been provisionally selected for admission to the M.A. Economics, M.Ed., M.Sc. Computer Sciences, M.Sc. Environmental Sciences, M.A./M.Sc. Applied Mathematics, MBA (Tourism and Travel Management), MBA (Human Resource Management), M.A. English and Comparative Literature semester I , Session 2012-13 under open merit as per the eligibility conditions given in the University prospectus.

They are required to complete their admission by:-

1. production of all marks cards/degrees/diplomas/provisional certificate in original and a copy of each,
2. production of original Admit Card/ Hall Ticket of CUCET-2012,
3. production of CUCET-2012 Score Card and
4. payment of prescribed fee in the form of Demand Draft payable in favour of OSD(Administration), Central University of Jammu latest by July 27, 2012 from ( 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.) at Temporary Academic Block – I, Central University of Jammu, Mahamaya Temple Road, opposite Environmental Park, Narwal, Siddhra Bye Pass, Jammu


The selection of the candidates who fail to complete their admission within the scheduled date and time shall stand cancelled and the seat/s shall be offered to the next candidate/s in order of merit in the wait list for admission.

The selected candidates have to submit the Admission Forms complete in all respects, along with the affidavits as per the formats appended with the form.

International Women’s Day celebrations were organized in the Central University of Jammu, Temporary Academic Block I. Dr. S.S. Bloeria, Vice-chancellor of the University, presided over the function. The event was attended by the faculty, students and the staff of the University. In his presidential address, the Vice-chancellor highlighted the importance of Women’s Day. He recalled the contribution of social reformers such as Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Swami Vivekananda and Sister Nivedita in uplifting the status of women in the past.

Earlier, the Cultural Activities Club (CAC) of the University was inaugurated. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Rita Saldanha, In-charge, Department of English and Comparative Literature, drew attention to the subordinate status of women in Indian society which is reflected in the skewed male and female ratio of several Indian States. Later Professor M.K Jyoti, Academic Co-ordinator(TAB I) emphasized the need for extra-curricular activities in bringing the students closer and encourage them to work together in serving the society at large.

The students presented their views on Women’s Day history and achievements. Miss Sonam Angmo (Department of English and Comparative Literature) introduced the theme of the movie The Help which was screened for the students in order to enhance their awareness of the conditions of the Black women in the hands of the Whites.

Central University of Jammu organized a lecture in collaboration with local( J & K) chapter of Indian Science Congress on the theme of the year, ‘Science and Society’. On the occasion, Dr. Alpana Vohra, Assistant Professor, GGM Science College Jammu, delivered a lecture titled “Aquarium Fishes, Recreation and Job Potential." Professor M.K Jyoti, Academic Co-ordinator gave a brief history of the Science Congress, Jammu Chapter. The lecture was attended by the faculty and students of Central University of Jammu.
