The Eco Club for Mission LiFE (EEP), Sadhu Ramchand Murmu University of Jhargram successfully organized a Health Awareness Campaign on 14 March 2026 at Salboni Nimna Buniyadi Vidyalaya.

More than 50 students and teachers of Salboni Nimna Buniyadi Vidyalaya, and university representative actively participated in the programme. The campaign focused on promoting health awareness, personal hygiene, balanced diet, and healthy lifestyle practices among primary school children.

During the programme, students from the Department of Nutrition and Public Health conducted basic health assessments, including measurement of height, weight, age, and Mid Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) to understand the nutritional condition of the children through BMI analysis.

A very informative health awareness session was delivered by Ms. Alo Dey, Resource Person, Department of Nutrition and Public Health, highlighting the importance of healthy food habits, fruits and vegetables, clean drinking water, and regular physical activity.

Interactive placards such as “Eat Healthy, Stay Healthy” and “Clean Hands, Healthy Life” were used to make the awareness session engaging for the children. Fresh fruits were also distributed among the students to encourage healthy eating habits.

This initiative strengthened the connection between the University and the local community and provided valuable field learning experience for University students while promoting health and nutrition awareness among rural school children.

A two-day workshop on “Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Management for Environment” was organized by the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) under the Department of Environment, Government of West Bengal, on 12–13 March 2026 at Smart Connect, New Town, Kolkata.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Kalyan Rudra, Chairman of the West Bengal Pollution Control Board.

The inaugural session was also graced by Dr. Sangita Mitra, Director of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Eastern Region.

Another distinguished speaker, Shri Samanjit Sengupta, WBCS (Exe.), Senior Personnel Manager, WBPCB and Nodal Officer of the Environmental Education Programme (EEP), elaborated on the objectives of the Environmental Education Programme.

Several other officials and environmental experts from WBPCB and related organizations also delivered speeches during the workshop.

The participants attended various technical sessions and interactive discussions focusing on environmental communication, awareness campaigns, and sustainable environmental practices.

The participation of representatives from Sadhu Ramchand Murmu University of Jhargram contributed to strengthening the University's engagement with environmental initiatives promoted by the West Bengal Pollution Control Board.

The workshop included several technical sessions, lectures, and group discussions conducted by experts from environmental organizations, government agencies, and academic institutions. These sessions covered important aspects of environmental communication, public awareness strategies, and the role of educational institutions in promoting environmental sustainability.

One-Day International Symposium on “Indian Literature in English: Trends, Transitions and Transformation”

A One-Day International Symposium on the theme “Indian Literature in English: Trends, Transitions and Transformation” was organized in hybrid mode by the Department of English, Sadhu Ramchand Murmu University of Jhargram, Jhargram, West Bengal, India, on 12 March 2026 at the Seminar Hall of the University.

The programme commenced in the presence of distinguished guests, scholars, faculty members, research scholars, and students. It began with a solemn tribute by offering floral garlands to the portrait of Sadhu Ramchand Murmu by the dignitaries, guests, and University officials.

Following this, a sapling was ceremonially watered by the dignitaries. The programme then continued with the singing of the University Song and the State Song by the students of the University.

The inaugural session was graced by Professor (Dr.) Chandradipa Ghosh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Sadhu Ramchand Murmu University of Jhargram, along with eminent speakers and academicians from India and abroad. The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor delivered the inaugural address and set the tone of the event through her valuable speech.

The symposium hosted several distinguished speakers, including Professor (Dr.) Alessandro Vescovi, Professor of English and Anglophone Literature at the State University of Milan, Italy, who delivered a lecture on the global reception and evolving narrative forms of Indian Literature in English.

Another keynote speaker, Professor (Dr.) Joyjit Ghosh, Professor in the Department of English Literature, Language and Culture Studies at Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, presented a discussion on Indian English Literature.

The academic session also included a presentation by Dr. Asis De, Associate Professor of English at Mahishadal Raj College.

The symposium also witnessed an international academic contribution from Dr. Betty Govinden, Honorary Research Associate at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

Dr. Mir Ahammad Ali, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of English (UG and PG) at Bhatter College, Dantan, also delivered a lecture during the symposium.

Resource persons, researchers, and students from different departments participated in the symposium. The programme provided a significant academic platform for interaction, exchange of ideas, and scholarly engagement in the field of Indian Literature in English.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, invited speakers, participants, and organizers for their valuable support and contribution in making the symposium a grand success.

The symposium ended with the rendition of the National Anthem.

Celebration of International Women’s Day 2026

The programme on the occasion of International Women’s Day was organized by Sadhu Ramchand Murmu University of Jhargram on March 10, 2026 at 12:30 P.M. at the University premises. The programme commenced with a solemn tribute by offering floral garlands to the statue of Sadhu Ramchand Murmu, followed by garlanding his portrait as a mark of respect by the dignitaries, guests, and University officials.

Following this, a sapling was ceremonially watered by the dignitaries to symbolize growth, empowerment, and the nurturing spirit associated with womanhood and nature. The programme then continued with the singing of the University Song and the State Song by the students of the University, which created a vibrant and respectful atmosphere.

The programme was presided over by Professor (Dr.) Chandradipa Ghosh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the University. The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor delivered an inspiring speech emphasizing the importance of women’s empowerment and their significant role in society.

Ms. Chinmoyee Marandi, Hon’ble Sabhadhipati, Zilla Parishad, Jhargram, graced the programme as the Special Guest of Honour. During the programme, she recited poems and lines in different languages, reflecting cultural diversity and highlighting the importance of unity and empowerment of women in society.

On this auspicious occasion, the University felicitated Smt. Chunibala Hansda in recognition of her outstanding performance and achievement in securing the third position in the Women’s Long Jump (60+ category) at the Open Masters Games held from February 6–15, 2026 at Zayed Sports City Stadium, Dubai. Her remarkable achievement was highly appreciated by all present and served as an inspiration to the students and the audience.

Prof. (Dr.) Layak Ali Khan, Former Professor, Department of Bengali, Vidyasagar University, attended the programme as a distinguished speaker and delivered an enlightening lecture on “শতবর্ষের আলোকে মহাশ্বেতা দেবী”.

Dr. Prithwish Akhuli, DMCHO, Jhargram, from the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Jhargram, also delivered an informative speech on women’s health and childcare.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Registrar of the University, expressing gratitude to all the dignitaries, participants, students, and staff members for making the programme successful.

The event ended with the rendition of the National Anthem.

Sadhu Ramchand Murmu University of Jhargram celebrated National Science Day 2026 on 02nd March 2026 at the University Campus with great enthusiasm and academic fervour. The programme commenced at 11:30 A.M. in the presence of distinguished academicians, resource persons, officers, staff members, research scholars, and students of the University.

National Science Day is observed every year to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir C. V. Raman and to promote scientific temper among students and society at large. Keeping this objective in view, the University organized a seminar to mark the occasion.

The seminar featured eminent speakers including Prof. Parthasarathi Chakraborty, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awardee and Chairperson, Centre for Ocean, River, Atmosphere and Land Sciences (CORAL), IIT Kharagpur. Prof. Chakraborty has received several prestigious national and international honours, including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology (2018), National Geoscience Award (2013), M. S. Krishnan Medal (2015), IAGC Kharaka Award (USA, 2017), and a recent International Award (2025) from the American Geophysical Union (AGU).

Another distinguished speaker was Prof. Debashree Ghosh, Senior Professor, School of Chemical Sciences, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata. Her notable awards and honours include the Emerging Investigator Lectureship Award, PCCP (2018); Annual Medal of the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science (2021); SERB POWER Fellowship (2022); Walter Kohn Prize by ICTP, Trieste (2022); and the Pople Medal by APATCC (2025).

The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chandradipa Ghosh, presided over the programme. In her presidential address, she emphasized the importance of scientific research, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing contemporary global challenges. She encouraged students and Resource Persons to cultivate curiosity, critical thinking, and ethical scientific practices.

The distinguished speakers delivered insightful lectures highlighting recent advancements in chemical sciences, environmental research, and interdisciplinary scientific approaches. Their deliberations inspired students and Resource Persons to pursue excellence in scientific inquiry and contribute meaningfully to national development.

The programme witnessed active participation from students, research scholars, faculty members, officers, staff, and other stakeholders of the University. The interactive session that followed the lectures provided an excellent platform for academic exchange and knowledge sharing.

The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the distinguished guests, speakers, and participants for making the event a grand success.
