Congratulations to the Department of Sociology, Kakojan College, for the successful organization of the Awareness Programme on “Importance of Good Touch vs Bad Touch” in collaboration with IQAC, Kakojan College, and in association with Kakojan Govt. M.E. School.
The programme addressed a highly significant issue related to child safety, protection, and well-being. It served as an important platform for creating awareness among young students about the distinction between appropriate and inappropriate touch, the importance of self-protection from abuse, and the key provisions of the POCSO Act, 2012. Such initiatives play a vital role in fostering awareness, confidence, and a sense of security among children.
Appreciation is extended to the Head of the Department of Sociology and all faculty members associated with the programme for their dedicated efforts in making the event meaningful and impactful. Sincere gratitude is also conveyed to Dr. Rashmi Rekha Saikia, Principal, Kakojan College, for her constant encouragement and support towards academic and extension activities that contribute to the holistic development of society.

Today the department of Sociology, Kakojan College in collaboration with IQAC, Kakojan College and in association with Kakojan Govt M.E School organised an awareness Programme on 'Importance of Good touch vs Bad Touch ' at neighbouring school Kakojan Govt M.E School. The HoD, Department of Sociology, Kakojan College delivered an informative lecture on Good touch and Bad Touch, how victims will confront the situation, mentioned about the POCSO act, 2012.

The programme aimed to empower children with knowledge about body safety and to create a safe, open environment for discussion.

An awareness programme on “The Menace of Dowry” was successfully held on 25th May 2026 by the Women Cell, Kakojan College in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Kakojan College.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Rashmi Rekha Saikia, Principal, Kakojan College. Ms. Navanita Nath, Assistant Professor, Department of Assamese, anchored the event with grace and efficiency.
The session was enriched by the presence of Ms. Nilakshi Bora, MA (English), LLB (Delhi University), Advocate at Jorhat Bar Association (formerly practising at Tees Hazari District Court, Delhi and Delhi High Court) as the Resource Person. She delivered a compelling and enlightening talk, shedding light on the social, legal, and psychological dimensions of the dowry system. She also explained key legal provisions under the Dowry Prohibition Act 1961 and laws related to domestic violence, while emphasising the collective responsibility of society in eradicating this deep-rooted social evil.
Dr. Minakshi Mili, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, offered the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to the Principal, the Resource Person, the Women Cell, IQAC, Faculty members, Staff and Students for their support and participation.
The programme saw active and enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and staff. The interactive session successfully raised awareness and inspired everyone present to take a stand against the practice of dowry.

Celebration of Earth Day – 2026
The Department of Chemistry, Kakojan College, Jorhat, Assam, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), celebrated Earth Day on 22nd April 2026 with great enthusiasm. The programme was organised on the theme “Our Power, Our Planet”.
The programme began with the inaugural speech by Dr. Rashmi Rekha Saikia, Principal of Kakojan College. In her address, she highlighted the urgent need for collective responsibility towards environmental protection and sustainable development.
Dr. Siddhartha Kr. Bhorodwaj, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, delivered an insightful talk as the Resource Person. He elaborated on the significance of the theme “Our Power, Our Planet” and motivated the students to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.
Dr. Kshirod Saikia, Vice Principal of the College, delivered a special speech emphasising the importance of observing Earth Day and the role of educational institutions in creating environmental awareness among the youth.
On this occasion, the Science Club of Kakojan College, in collaboration with IQAC, organised a State Level Essay Writing Competition on the topic “The Role of Students in Combating Climate Change: Steps towards a Greener Future”. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across the state.
The results of the essay competition were announced by Mr. Prasanna Hazarika, Secretary of the Science Club and Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology.
The entire programme was efficiently anchored by Mr. Utpal Sadhonidar, Head of the Department, Chemistry. Lakhya Protim Nirmolia, Coordinator, IQAC, offered the vote of thanks and appreciated the active participation of students, faculty members, and all collaborating units.
The programme concluded successfully, creating awareness and inspiring students to contribute towards a greener and more sustainable future.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Kakojan College, Jorhat, Assam, in collaboration with Assam down town University, Guwahati and ICFRE-Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat, successfully organised a two-day National Seminar on “Environmental Issues and Sustainable Development towards Atmanirbhar Bharat” on 27th and 28th March 2026.

*Inaugural Session*
The seminar commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Rashmi Rekha Saikia, Principal, Kakojan College. The event was formally inaugurated by Dr. Nitin Kulkarni, Director, ICFRE-Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat, who underlined the role of research in achieving sustainable development. Dr. Gonesh Chandra Bora, President of the Governing Body, released the E-Abstract Volume. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Latonglila Jamir, who discussed the critical link between environmental conservation and sustainable growth in Northeast India.

*Technical Sessions*
Over the two days, multiple technical sessions were conducted with paper presentations and expert lectures by resource persons from academia and research institutions. The sessions focused on:
- *Environmental Challenges in Northeast India*: Issues like deforestation, biodiversity loss, climate change impacts, and sustainable agricultural practices.
- *Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)*: India’s progress, challenges, and the role of higher education in promoting SDGs.
- *Atmanirbhar Bharat and Green Economy*: Integrating self-reliance with environmental sustainability, renewable energy, and eco-friendly technologies.

Each session was chaired by eminent academics and followed by interactive discussions with participants, researchers, and students.

The seminar provided a vibrant platform for academic exchange and highlighted actionable pathways for environmental sustainability aligned with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
