We are glad to share that on last 8th May 26, three of our PG research output, from the Department of HDFS, in the form of a guidebook and Methodologies, had been released by our Honourable Vice Chancellor Sir Dr. Dipjyoti Rajkhowa, and all statutory officers of Assam Agricultural University.

The guidebook entitled -
"Navigating Dementia : Insights and Strategies for Management and Care",
"Intervention package on The Reflective Learner - A Guide to use Metacognitive Strategies for Secondary Students" and
"Manual for Psychosocial Well-being Scale for elderly", will definitely be demand driven and time appropriate resources for the targeted groups of society, to cater to the holistic development in general and mental health in particular.

On 17th February 2026, the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, Faculty of Community Science, Assam Agricultural University (AAU), successfully organized the National Symposium on “Nurturing Mental Health: A Challenge for Psychological Wellbeing of Society in the 21st Century” at DBT-NECAB, AAU, Jorhat.

The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Prashanna Kr. Pathak, Dean, College of Agriculture, AAU; Prof. Kumar Ravi Priya (IIT Kanpur); Dr. Nandita Bhattacharyya, Dean (i/c), Faculty of Community Science; Dr. Jinamoni Saikia, Chairperson of the Symposium and Head, HDFS; and Dr. Binoy Kr. Medhi, Director of Students’ Welfare, AAU. The Abstract Volume, Monograph, and Bulletin on Mental Health were also released during the session.

The programme featured expert lectures by Dr. Manas Kumar Mandal (IIT Kharagpur) and Mrs. Loya Agarwalla, highlighting academic stress, resilience, and innovative mental health interventions including AI-driven and technology-enabled solutions.

Two technical sessions followed, with 30 participants presenting research (online and offline) under four major themes: life-course mental health, academic and workplace wellbeing, policy and governance, and indigenous and innovative approaches. The sessions were evaluated by experts from JMCH and AAU and were highly informative and interactive.

The symposium served as a vibrant national platform for advancing dialogue, research, and collaborative strategies on psychological wellbeing.

College of Community Science, AAU, Jorhat to Organize Two-Day Seminar on AI & Big Data Sciences in Education

The Viksit Bharat Cell of the College of Community Science, Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, is set to organize a two-day seminar titled “Upskilling Students with AI & Big Data Sciences in Education: Building Future-Ready Innovators” on 6th and 7th February 2026.

The seminar aims to strengthen students’ competencies in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data Sciences, which are increasingly transforming the education sector and innovation landscape. The event seeks to prepare students for future challenges by fostering digital skills, critical thinking, and innovation-oriented learning.

The programme will feature expert lectures, poster presentations, and a hands-on workshop, offering participants a platform for interactive learning, knowledge sharing, and practical skill development.

Academicians, researchers, and industry experts will deliberate on the application of AI and Big Data in education, research, and skill development, with a special emphasis on enhancing employability and nurturing innovation among youth.

Aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, the seminar is expected to contribute significantly towards building a future-ready academic community through the integration of technology-driven approaches in higher education.

Heartiest congratulations to the Department of Apparel and Textile Science, College of Community Science, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat for its remarkable achievements at the National Natural Fibre Festival 2026 (3rd–6th January 2026) and the 6th National Conference on Innovations in Natural Fibre in the Context of Industry and Agriculture 5.0”, held at ICAR–NINFET, Kolkata (3rd–4th January 2026).

The department participated under the NEH Project in collaboration with ICAR–NINFET, Kolkata. Among prestigious national textile institutes, the department secured the First Prize in Oral Presentation by Ms. Priyanka Borah, PhD Scholar, co-authored by Dr. Binita B. Kalita (Professor & HOD), Dr. Sunita Boruah (Assistant Professor), Dr. Nabaneeta Gogoi (Principal Scientist), and Dr. Smita Bhuyan (Assistant Professor).

The department also achieved the Third Prize in Poster Presentation by Ms. Rituparna Moran, Master’s Research Scholar, authored by Dr. Sunita Boruah, and special recognition for the **Best Innovative Fibre Review Paper by Ms. Karabi Kalita, PhD Scholar, authored by Dr. Sunita Boruah. Additionally, the department successfully showcased innovative natural fibre products and research outcomes** through its exhibition stall.

Two day's International Symposium cm workshop concluded successfully...

The Department of Apparel and Textile Science, College of Community Science, Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, gracefully concluded its two-day International Symposium-cum-Workshop on Pioneering Sustainable Innovations and Business Opportunities in Natural Fibres. The event was organized in collaboration with CMERTI–Lahdoigarh, the Central Silk Board, and ICAR–NINFET, Kolkata, bringing together expertise and vision to celebrate progress in natural fibre research and enterprise.

The second day of the International Symposium cm Workshop on “Pioneering Sustainable Innovations and Business Opportunities in Natural Fibres” witnessed an insightful and knowledge-rich set of events.The day began with an enlightening lecture delivered by Dr. Rangam Rajkhowa, Associate Professor, Deakin University, Australia, offering global perspectives on sustainable fibre research and applications.
Following this, two technical sessions were conducted under the leadership of Dr. Vinod Kadam, Senior Scientist, ICAR–CSWRI, Rajasthan, accompanied by expert inputs from ICAR–CSWRI, CSIR–NEIST, USTM, France, and the DC’s Office, Cachar.
The two-day programme concluded with a Valedictory Session, marking a promising step forward in advancing research collaborations, innovation-driven entrepreneurship, and skill development in the natural fibre sector.

AAU Jorhat Hosts International Symposium cm Workshop on Sustainable Innovations in Natural Fibres

The Department of Apparel and Textile Science, College of Community Science, Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, successfully organized an International Symposium cm Workshop on “Pioneering Sustainable Innovations and Business Opportunities in Natural Fibres” on 5th December 2025. The event was held in collaboration with the Central Muga Eri Research and Training Institute (CMERTI), Lahdoigarh, the Central Silk Board, and ICAR - National Institute of Natural Fibre and Engineering Technology (ICAR–NINFET), Kolkata. The programme commenced with the Jatiya Sangeet and ceremonial lamp-lighting, followed by a Welcome Address by Dr. Binita B. Kalita, Professor & Head, Dept. of ATS, and Convener. Dr. Sunita Boruah, Assistant Professor, Dept. of ATS, and Organizing Secretary, presented an overview of the event. The symposium also saw the inauguration of an exhibition showcasing entrepreneurs, startups, and institutional innovations in the natural fibre sector. Inaugural remarks were delivered by Dr. Kartik Neog, Director, CSB–CMERTI, Lahdoigarh; and Dr. Sanjay Kumar Chetia, Director of Research, AAU. Dignitaries present included Dr. Anup Kumar Das, Director of Post-Graduate Studies, AAU; Dr. Manoranjan Neog, Director of Extension Education, AAU; Dr. Binoy Kumar Medhi, Director of Students’ Welfare, AAU; and Dr. Nandita Bhattacharyya, Professor & Head, Dept. of RMCS, AAU, who served as Dean Chair. Dr. Mamoni Das, Dean, Faculty of Community Science, AAU, Jorhat, Assam, also extended her best wishes and guidance for the successful conduct of the event. Keynote addresses were delivered by Mr. Peter Clarke, Managing Director & CEO, COMTE PIERRE MOSAIC, France; Dr. Firoz Babu Kadumudi, Senior Researcher, Technical University of Denmark; and General Manager, Rudrasagar Silk Limited. Experts from ICAR–CSWRI, CSIR–NEIST, USTM, and the DC’s Office, Cachar, also contributed to the deliberations.The presidential remarks of Dr. Bidyut Chandan Deka, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, AAU. The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Nabaneeta Gogoi, Principal Scientist and Co-convener, Dept. of ATS. *NSI Jorhat Chapter Wins Best Chapter Award for Third Consecutive Year*

The NSI Jorhat Chapter, situated in the Department of Food and Nutrition, Assam Agricultural University, has been awarded the Best Chapter Award for the third consecutive year at the 57th Annual Conference of the Nutrition Society of India, held from 13–15 November 2025 in Hyderabad.

The award was a recognition of the chapter’s effective participation in community-based nutrition programmes, public health initiatives, and efforts to advance nutrition literacy. It also acknowledged the chapter’s significant contributions toward building a resilient and sustainable health system, reducing anaemia and child malnutrition, promoting food fortification, and enhancing livelihood opportunities in the region.

This continued achievement underscores the collective commitment, proactive outreach, and impactful work carried out by the NSI Jorhat Chapter.

🌍 AAU Observes World Environment Day cm Food Safety Day 2025 🌿🥗

The Department of Food and Nutrition, College of Community Science, Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, in collaboration with Aaranyak and the Nutrition Society of India (NSI), Jorhat Chapter, organized an impactful programme on 10th June 2025 to mark World Environment Day cm Food Safety Day, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable food systems and environmental responsibility.

The event began with a Student Innovation Challenge on Eco-Friendly Wraps, where students showcased creative and practical poster ideas—ranging from banana leaves and beeswax wraps to biodegradable edible films. These innovative concepts reflected the students’ deep awareness of sustainable packaging solutions. Cash prizes were awarded to the most outstanding entries, encouraging young minds to pursue real-world eco-conscious innovations.

🎙️ The programme featured a special talk by Shri Samiran Baruah, Former Food Safety Officer, Govt. of Assam, on “Impact of Packaging Materials on Food Safety.” He emphasized the critical link between safe packaging and consumer health, urging the adoption of non-toxic, food-grade, and eco-friendly alternatives.
🌳 Shri Zakir Islam Bora, Assistant Manager, Elephant Research & Conservation Division, Aaranyak, delivered an inspiring address on environmental sustainability, urging everyone to take collective action in conserving nature and reducing their environmental footprint. His message reinforced the deep connection between environmental stewardship and public well-being.

👩‍🏫 In her welcome address, Dr. Moloya Gogoi, Head of the Department, underlined the importance of equipping youth with knowledge and responsibility for driving sustainable change through informed food choices.

👩‍🎓 Dr. Mamoni Das, Dean, Faculty of Community Science, appreciated the students’ enthusiastic participation and emphasized the need for academic institutions to lead by example in nurturing eco-conscious values.

Dr. Premila L Bordoloi and Dr. Manisha Choudhury, Programme Coordinators, along with the dedicated faculty of the department, played a key role in making the event a success.

🏅The programme concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, celebrating student innovations and reinforcing the message that environmental protection and food safety go hand in hand.

The Department of Food Science and Nutrition, College of Community Science, Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, in collaboration with the Nutrition Society of India, Jorhat Chapter, successfully organized a one-day awareness programme to mark World Hypertension Day 2025 on 17th May., under the global theme “Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer.”
As an effort to create awareness among parents and school children to develop a healthier lifestyle since early age an interactive session was organised in the Krishilaya primary school situated in the AAU Campus, where faculties along with the students, deliberated talks focusing on balanced nutrition, reduction of fast foods and frequent snacking, and physical activity. A special focus was given to children, encouraging healthy tiffin choices, regular outdoor play, and limiting screen time essential habits to cultivate heart health from an early age. As part of the initiative, a Counselling Outreach Camp for university staff and students was conducted by 4th-year Food and Nutrition (FND) students, offering personalised diet plans alongside demonstrations highlighting the importance of regular blood pressure monitoring and maintaining a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI) to prevent hypertension and related complications. These key messages were further reinforced through informative posters and leaflets prepared by the students. The camp witnessed active participation from approximately 172 individuals across the campus community, highlighting the growing awareness and concern for cardiovascular wellness. To further extend the outreach, an informative bulletin was displayed at the entrance of the College of Community Science, presenting key facts, preventive strategies, and lifestyle tips related to hypertension. The display served as a visual reminder to promote health consciousness and encourage proactive cardiovascular care among the academic fraternity.
