World Environment Day 2026 Observed at the University of Kalyani
Today(5th June 2026), the University of Kalyani successfully organized a One-Day Seminar on World Environment Day 2026, along with a Plantation Programme, No Plastic and Waste Reduction Campaign, and University Campus Cleaning Drive under the theme: “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”
The programme was jointly organized by the Department of Environmental Science, DESKU EIACP PC-RP on Environmental Biotechnology (MoEF&CC, Government of India) , and the NSS Cell, University of Kalyani.
The event commenced at Vidyasagar Sabhagriha in the gracious presence of Prof. Kallol Paul, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, University of Kalyani through video conference, who emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainable practices in higher education institutions in his inaugural address.
Prof. Kumaresh Ghosh, Dean, PG Faculty of Science & PG Faculty of Education; Prof. Partha Pratim Sarkar, Dean, PG Faculty of ETM; Prof. Ashimananda Gangopadhyay, Dean, PG Faculty of Arts & Commerce; Prof. Anirban Mukhopadhyay, Director, IQAC; Prof. Asish Kumar Panigrahi, Director, DODL; Prof. Soma Mukherjee, Head, Dept. of Environmental Science, KU; Prof. Kausik Mondal, Coordinator, DESKU EIACP-RP, KU; Prof. Saikot Chatterjee, Coordinator, NSS Cell, KU, Dr. Debansu Ray, Registrar,KU were present at the program.
The seminar featured insightful deliberations by distinguished speakers: Prof. Aniruddha Mukhopadhyay, Department of Environmental Science, University of Calcutta

Their thought-provoking talks highlighted contemporary environmental challenges, climate action strategies, biodiversity conservation, and the collective responsibility of citizens towards a sustainable future.
The observance also included:
Plantation activities across the campus
Awareness campaign on plastic-free living and waste reduction
Campus cleaning drive with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, NSS volunteers, and staff
