C3ihub, IIT Kanpur and Central Industrial Security Force - CISF Sign MoU to Strengthen Cybersecurity Capabilities 🔐

As part of the collaboration, C3iHub, IIT Kanpur will conduct a six-week, residential and non-commercial training programme for 40 CISF personnel per batch, combining classroom learning, hands-on exercises, expert sessions and scenario-based activities.

The MoU was signed by Shri Senthil Avoodai Krishna Raj S., IG/APS-I, CISF, and Dr. Tanima Hajra, CEO, C3iHub, in the presence of Prof. Surender Baswana, Programme Director, Dr. Ras Dwivedi, CTO, Dr. Anand Handa, CSO, and Shri Ajaya Kumar Misra, CFO.

The training will cover cybersecurity fundamentals, IT and networking, digital forensics, incident response, vulnerability assessment, disaster recovery and business continuity, along with emerging areas including AI/ML, Generative AI, cloud computing, IoT and Operational Technology (OT).

Participants will also engage with evolving threats such as AI-enabled attacks, deepfakes, supply-chain vulnerabilities, identity-related threats and cyber-physical system risks, culminating in a multi-sector crisis simulation.

The collaboration marks a shared commitment towards building a skilled and future-ready cybersecurity workforce and strengthening the protection of India’s critical and strategic infrastructure.

IIT Kanpur’s Vision for the Future of Medical Education 🧬

IIT Kanpur is taking forward its vision of integrating medicine, engineering, technology and research through the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology (GSMST).

In a recent interaction with India Today, Prof. Anil K. Lalwani, Dean, GSMST, IIT Kanpur, shared insights into the Institute’s roadmap for medical education and healthcare.

The School plans to begin with higher medical and super-speciality programmes, alongside transdisciplinary research at the intersection of medicine, engineering and technology.

The 500-bed Yadupati Singhania Super-speciality Hospital, being developed alongside the School, with further strength IIT Kanpur’s ecosystem for clinical care, medical education, research and innovation.

Rethinking Teaching and Learning at IIT Kanpur

How can teaching evolve to respond to the changing needs and experiences of students?

In an interview with Hindustan Times, faculty members from IIT Kanpur’s Centre for Educational Research and Teaching Excellence (CERTEX) discuss the Centre’s efforts to strengthen teaching and learning through collaboration, student feedback, data and continuous reflection.

CERTEX brings together faculty from different disciplines to share teaching practices and explore new approaches to classroom learning. Its initiatives include workshops on TA training, core course and laboratory modernisation, communication, visual communication, and AI in higher education.

The Centre also organises the Chalk Talk Series, where distinguished faculty members from the Institute share their teaching experiences and discuss their approaches, methods and practices in the classroom.

Through student feedback and surveys, CERTEX also seeks to better understand learning experiences and explore ways to make classrooms more engaging through hands-on learning, real-world applications and innovative assignments.

Wadhwani–IIT Kanpur Innovation Centre Launched to Advance Life Sciences & MedTech Research 🧬🏥

Prof. Jitendra Bera, Dean of Faculty Affairs, IIT Kanpur; Dr. Upendra Kumar Singh, Director General, DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India; Dr. Shirshendu Mukherjee, Managing Director, Wadhwani Innovation Network; Prof. Ashok Kumar, Professor-in-Charge, WIN-CoE, IIT Kanpur; and Dr. Santosh K. Misra, Co-Professor-in-Charge, WIN-CoE, IIT Kanpur, were present at the inauguration of the Wadhwani Innovation Centre for Life Sciences and Medical Technologies at IIT Kanpur.

The Centre will receive USD 5 million over five years to support the development, validation and commercialisation of promising innovations in life sciences, biotechnology, medical technologies and AI-enabled healthcare.

Building on IIT Kanpur’s biomedical research strengths, the Centre will help take promising ideas from the laboratory to real-world healthcare applications, supporting researchers with validation, intellectual property, regulatory pathways, industry partnerships, technology transfer and commercialisation.

The Centre will focus on areas including therapeutics, regenerative medicine, drug delivery, vaccines, medical devices, diagnostics, neurodegenerative diseases, mental health, antimicrobial resistance and AI-enabled healthcare.

The inauguration was followed by a workshop on “Translational Research and Regulatory Pathways: Bridging Innovation to Healthcare Impact”, bringing together experts from regulatory agencies, academia, healthcare, industry and the innovation ecosystem.

The Wadhwani–IIT Kanpur Innovation Centre is part of the Wadhwani Innovation Network (WIN) - IITK, an initiative of the Wadhwani Foundation to strengthen research translation and commercialisation across India.

Heartiest congratulations to Mr. Shahid Majeed Dar, Ph.D. student, Department of Economic Sciences, IIT Kanpur, on receiving the Economic Analysis and Policy (EAP) Best Paper Award 2025.

Mr. Dar, under the supervision of Prof. Sukumar Vellakkal, received the award for his research paper titled “Usage and Health Impact of Toilets: Evidence from a Nationwide Sanitation Program in India.”

On National Engineer's Day, CISF & IIT Kanpur Sign Twin MoUs on Cyber Security Training and Drone & Anti-Drone Technology

On National Engineers’ Day, 15 Sept 2026, CISF signed two strategic MoUs with IIT Kanpur to strengthen capabilities in Cyber Security and Drone & Anti-Drone Technology.

The MoU on Cyber Security training between CISF and C3iHub (IHUB NTIHAC Foundation, hosted and promoted by IIT Kanpur) was signed by Shri Senthil Avoodai Krishna Raj S., IG/APS-I, CISF and Dr. Tanima Hajra, CEO, C3iHub, in the presence of Prof. Surender Baswana, Programme Director, Dr. Ras Dwivedi, CTO, Dr. Anand Handa, CSO and Shri Ajaya Kumar Misra, CFO.

It provides for a six-week residential training on Cyber Security for 40 CISF personnel per batch and the training is non commercial and free of training cost basis.

The MoU on Drone & Anti-Drone Technology between Dr. C. Dhananjaya Naik, DIG/CISF MPRTC, Behror, and Prof. Jayandharan G. Rao, Dean, R&D, IIT Kanpur, in the presence of Shri Senthil Avoodai Krishna Raj S., IG/APS-I, Shri Savitoj Singh Gill, AIG/NCR Zone (Domain Lead – Drone & Anti-Drone) and Prof. Navroz, Department of Aerospace Engineering, IIT Kanpur. It aims to support the development of a Centre of Excellence in Drone & Anti-Drone Technology at MPRTC Behror.

Together, these partnerships mark a significant step towards building a technology-driven and future-ready security ecosystem.

Basketball League Returns to IIT Kanpur After Five Years 🏀🏆

The STAFF Gymkhana, IIT Kanpur organised a three-day Institute Basketball League, bringing competitive basketball back to the Institute after a gap of nearly five years.

The league saw enthusiastic participation from six Institute teams and 54 players, with three days of exciting matches at the Main Stadium.

🏆 Shooter Team emerged as the champions after defeating the Jordan Team in the final. The winning team was led by Mr. Ramendra Pathak, while Mr. Arvind Kumar captained the runner-up team.

The final and award ceremony was attended by Dr. Srinivas Dharavath, President, Staff Gymkhana, as Chief Guest. He congratulated the teams and highlighted the role of sports in fostering teamwork, camaraderie, discipline and healthy competition among employees.

The tournament was coordinated by the Staff Gymkhana team, including Mr. Virendra Singh; Mr. Arvind Verma, Mr. Manoj Kumar Verma, Mr. Rajneesh and Mr. Chandan Vishwakarma.

The successful return of the league marks another step towards strengthening the sports culture at IIT Kanpur.

The Economic Times Startup Awards 2026!

We are pleased to share that our esteemed alumni Mr. Vishrant Dave (BT/MSE/2024), Mr. Prateesh Awasthi (BT-MT (Dual)/ME/2024), and Mr. Ayush Ranjan (BT-MT (Dual)/ME/2024) have won the Best on Campus Award at The Economic Times Startup Awards 2026 for their startup, Armatrix.

Founded at IIT Kanpur in 2024, Armatrix is building snake-like robotic arms that can navigate confined industrial spaces. The startup aims to reduce the need for workers to enter confined and hazardous spaces for inspection and maintenance.

The founders began working on flexible robotic arms in their third year of engineering. What started as a research project has now evolved into a startup piloting its inspection robots in real shipyards. The current robots use cameras and depth sensors for inspections, while future versions are expected to take on welding, coating and maintenance.

Armatrix is initially targeting shipbuilding, with plans to expand into aviation, oil and gas, and nuclear industries.

Congratulations, Mr. Vishrant, Mr. Prateesh and Mr. Ayush, on this recognition! We are proud to see our alumni take their innovation from IIT Kanpur to real-world industrial applications.
