IIT Kanpur hosted a three-day Capacity Building Programme for Administrative and Finance Personnel under the Staff Training Unit, bringing together 76 participants from premier institutions across India including IITs, IIMs, IISERs, NITs, Central Universities and other leading organizations.

The programme focused on enhancing professional skills, institutional learning and inter-organizational collaboration through insightful sessions led by distinguished experts and resource persons.

Bridging communication through innovation. 🤝📱

The feature article “Early Signs of Speechless Interaction”, published in The New Indian Express, highlights pioneering efforts in AI-powered Indian Sign Language translation and accessibility technologies.

The story features insights from Prof. Ashutosh Modi and Prof. C V Jawahar who discuss how AI, computer vision and language models are being developed to understand and generate Indian Sign Language for more inclusive communication systems. They have been awarded a grant by Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) for developing sign language technologies aimed at advancing accessibility and inclusive communication.

Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre, IIT Kanpur incubated startup ScaNxt Scientific Technologies has signed an MoU with CSIR-CMERI Durgapur and National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) for the technology transfer of India’s first indigenously developed 100% electric compact tractor at Vigyan Tech 2026, New Delhi.

Developed with over 90% indigenous components, itt is designed for small and marginal farmers, featuring a fully electric drivetrain, V2L functionality to power farm equipment, and compact architecture suited for Indian agricultural conditions.

The development highlights the growing strength of India’s deep-tech and agritech innovation ecosystem, where research, startups, and incubation are driving impactful indigenous solutions for rural India.

The Office of Outreach Activities at IIT Kanpur successfully concluded a two-day Capacity Building Program on Big Data and Data Analytics in collaboration with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India.

Program brought together officers from 7 States/UTs and Central Line Ministries representing organizations including IRS, ISRO, Defence Services, Railways, Police, NIC and the Meteorological Department.

Discussions during the program explored big data technologies, cloud computing, GPU services, public policy applications, and the challenges of data-driven decision-making. Participants also emphasized the importance of indigenous cloud infrastructure for critical national services and citizen privacy.

The valedictory session featured insights from Dr. Ram Sewak Sharma, former DG, UIDAI, on India's Digital Public Infrastructure journey and the transformative role of Aadhaar in governance and public service delivery.

🔬 Inspiring young minds through the fascinating world of materials! ✨

ACMS IIT Kanpur- Advanced Centre for Materials Science along with Material Advantage, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, a student technical chapter in the Department of MSE IIT Kanpur co-organized the four-day “Materials Camp 2026”, in collaboration with Materials Society, The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) Kanpur Chapter, Indian National Academy of Engineering Kanpur Chapter, and ASM International India Chapter.

The camp brought together 43 students and 9 teachers from schools across Kanpur and Jhansi for an immersive learning experience in Materials Science & Engineering.

From exploring the “Fascinating World of Materials” and understanding materials classification, to witnessing real-life demonstrations like disassembling an LED television, microscopy sessions, welding simulators, SEM, XRD, XPS, mechanical testing, AI/ML in Materials Science, Li-ion batteries, wound healing materials, and industrial exposure visits — students experienced science beyond classrooms. ⚙️🧪

The camp concluded with interactive laboratory demonstrations, virtual labs, feedback sessions, and certificate distribution, inspiring participants to explore future careers in Materials Science & Engineering.

We are delighted to congratulate Infosys Prize 2023 laureate Prof. Arun Kumar Shukla on receiving two prestigious honors this year: the Om Prakash Bhasin Award in Biological Sciences and the International Award by the Biochemical Society.

The International Award marks a significant milestone, as this is the first time the honor has been awarded to a scientist working in India.

We are proud to share that our distinguished alumnus, Prof. Ashoke Sen (MSc2/PHY/1978), ICTS-Infosys Madhava Chair Professor, has been elected as an International Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the United States.

A globally acclaimed theoretical physicist, Prof. Sen is renowned for his pioneering contributions to string theory and fundamental physics. Over the course of his illustrious career, he has received several prestigious honours, including the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics, the Dirac Medal, the Infosys Prize, the Padma Shri, and the Padma Bhushan. IIT Kanpur also conferred upon him the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1999. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society, one of the highest distinctions in science.

Prof. Sen’s achievements stand as a source of immense pride for the IIT Kanpur community and continue to inspire generations of students, researchers, and scientists across the world.
