Dear Y22s,

The academic flexibility at IIT Kanpur is vast. It allows you to learn the things you are interested in, in many ways. From choosing the courses of interest to choosing the major of your interest through different programs like Branch change, Double Major, Minors, Dual Degree, etc. These terms were introduced to you during your first semester through Academic Orientation. However, since you were new to the system, retaining all the knowledge provided was hard. Hence, we planned Academic Orientation 2.0 to clarify your doubts regarding different Academic programs at IIT Kanpur.

Also, since all the first-year courses were IC courses, many of you did not get the opportunity to experiment with your template. You will have ESOs, SOs, DEs, OEs, DCs, etc. from the second year. So, becoming familiar with courses offered and terms like credits, course drop, audit, underload/overload, etc is necessary. All these make the academics at our institute flexible. To know how you can use this flexibility correctly, please attend Academic Orientation 2.0 and clarify all your doubts with SUGC nominees for pre-registration.

Topics to be covered:

1. Branch Change
2. Minors
3. Double Majors/Dual Degrees
4. Credit System
5. Semester Exchange
6. Template
7. Pre-Registration and Add-Drop period
8. People and bodies you need to know

The details for the session are as follows:

Date: 18th June 2023 (Sunday)
Time: 7:30 pm
Venue: L7

P.S: Since Pre-Registration for your third semester has already started, we highly recommend you to join the session and get your doubts clarified.

Summers @ IITK play an important role in the academic and professional development of the students. They provide an opportunity to students to take additional courses, engage in research projects, and participate in internships.
