The Vinod Gupta School of Management was the first school of management to be setup within the IIT system. It was initiated by a distinguished alumnus & a Life Time Fellow of the Institute, Mr. Vinod Gupta, whose generous endowment was matched by liberal support from the Government of India. The founders felt that VGSOM could play a pioneering role in creating management schools within the IIT system and offered unique programmes blending management and technology that would develop managers who would be able to understand and appreciate both the critical technology related issues and their management implications. This original concept has now been vindicated by the setting up of management programmes in other IITs as well. Our vision is to develop as a centre of excellence in management education and research catering to the needs of organizations in different sectors of the economy with special emphasis on technology driven and knowledge based industries that are characterized by high degrees of globalization, dynamism, complexity and innovation.

Every year, as the effigies of Ravana turn to ashes, we are reminded that no darkness is powerful enough to withstand the light of truth. Vijayadashami marks the day Lord Rama's unwavering dharma triumphed over arrogance and ego, and Goddess Durga's victory over Mahishasura, both teaching us that real strength comes from discipline, humility, and staying true to our purpose.

As we celebrate, let us also burn the Ravanas within: self-doubt, complacency, and fear of failure. May this festival inspire us to lead with courage, learn with curiosity, and pursue every goal with honesty and determination.

Here's to new beginnings and victories worth celebrating. Happy Dussehra from all of us at Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur .

Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur, is organising an International Food Festival on 31 Oct - 1 Nov 2026 at Kazi Nazrul Community Centre, and we warmly invite you to be a part of it.

The festival will bring together cuisines from around the world, along with regional Indian food, under one roof for students, faculty, staff, families and visitors. We are looking for stalls that can offer authentic, well-prepared food representing a particular country or region.

Who can apply
Campus residents, local restaurants, cafés and caterers, home chefs, student groups and food businesses are all welcome to apply.

No deposit, no upfront payment
There is no security deposit and no initial payment to be made to VGSoM. Initial support for setting up the stalls will be provided by VGSOM.

Internship Diaries 2026 by the Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur, showcases how our students turn classroom learning into practical business insights through their summer internships.

Binay K P shares his summer internship experience in Procurement at Vedanta, where he explored how procurement can create value beyond individual purchasing decisions.

Working through diverse requirements and identifying opportunities for common solutions required a strong focus on standardisation, stakeholder alignment, communication, and problem-solving. The experience offered a practical understanding of how seemingly small improvements in procurement processes can create meaningful impact at organisational scale.

His journey reflects an important lesson from the industry: effective procurement is not only about what an organisation buys, but also about how efficiently it enables people and processes to buy better.

Internship Diaries 2026 by the Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur, celebrates the diverse experiences and practical learnings of our students during their summer internships.

At Titan Company Limited, Ritwik Sharma and Vaibhavi G Rao experienced two distinct facets of the business-from smartwatch supply chain localisation to merchandising and customer insights.

Ritwik explored supplier ecosystems, procurement practices, and manufacturing capabilities to assess opportunities for greater localisation in India’s smartwatch supply chain. Vaibhavi’s work with Titan EyePlus involved store visits, customer interactions, and translating on-ground observations into actionable insights for merchandising.

Together, their experiences highlight the value of combining operational understanding, supplier intelligence, and customer perspectives to inform better business decisions.
