B.Sc NEP Sem V students of Rabindra Mahavidyalaya, Hooghly recently visited at Molecular Plant & Microbiology Laboratory and other labs in our department as part of their internship program as of NEP course curriculum.
The students learned about contemporary research in plant science and microbiology. Also got hands on exposure to molecular techniques e.g., gDNA isolation, plasmid isolation and mapping, gel electrophoresis, Q.C analysis through spectroscopy, instrumentation demonstration e.g., Gel documentation system, inverted microscope, fluorescent microscope, automated colony counter, HPTLC etc. Students enjoyed the session thoroughly.

Delighted to announce that "Applied Phycology Laboratory" led by Dr. Harisankar Dey of our department recently participated in
International Conference on "Biotechnology for Sustainable Development & Circular Economy" Organised by Centre for Industrial Biotechnology Research, SOA University, Bhubaneswar in collaboration with Biotech Research Society, India from 8th to 10th December, 2025.
Dr. Dey has delivered an invited lecture and Mr. Sovan Sengupta of his lab has been awarded the "Best Rapid Oral Presentation Award" . Congratulations 🎉🎉

**DECODE THE GENOME 2.0 January 2026**

Happy to announce that Molecular Plant & Microbiology Laboratory (MPML) is going to organise an intensive online hands-on training on Genome Wide Analysis (GWA); Decode the Genome 2.0 on 7-10th January, 2026. Bioinformatics analysis is absolutely necessary for bio-based industry and start-up development.
The course is also perfectly aligned with UG/ PG NEP 2020 with some advanced analysis.

Glimpses of today's industrial visit to Smart Farming Technology, Kolkata Biotech Park, DST&Bt Govt of W.B., with our UG NEP Sem V students. Students got exposure to leading scientists and state of art facilities provided for the successful Start up incubation initiation in India. Hopefully, this will ignite the young minds for the contemporary problem solving attitude, thinking outside the classroom learning and temperament for the lab to land transition of knowledge.

Successfully concluded the 8 days long (21st to 29th Aug, 2025) online training program on bioinformatics, "Decode the Genome"., organised by Molecular Plant & Microbiology Laboratory (MPML), Department of Botany.
We are pleased to inform that total 50 participants from University of Calcutta, Visva Bharati University, Kalyani University, Neotia University, IIT-Kgp, University of Meerut, Pune University, Gujrat University, Bhagalpur University, University of Saskatchewan, Canada etc. were registered to the program.

The registration for session 1.0 is open now. Anybody UG/ PG/ Research Scholars from Life Sciences background can apply. All you need is a computer or laptop with stable internet connection.
