Successfully Concluded | One-Week Value-Added Certification Course!!!
The Department of Chemical Engineering, Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering, Navi Mumbai, successfully organized a One-Week Value-Added Certification Course on “Process Simulation and Computational Fluid Dynamics using DWSIM and OpenFOAM” from 7th to 11th September 2026.
The five-day hands-on training program provided participants with valuable practical exposure to chemical process simulation and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)using opensource tools promoted by FOSSEE, IIT Bombay.
Key areas covered during the program included:
• Process simulation using DWSIM
• Material and energy balances & thermodynamic property packages
• Simulation of heat exchangers, reactors and distillation columns
• Integrated process flowsheet development
• Introduction to OpenFOAM and CFD
• Case setup, meshing and simulation
• Multiphase flow and heat-transfer simulations
• Practical computational problem-solving using open-source tools
Resource Persons for value added course are Mr. Priyam Nayak, DWSIM Expert, Project Research Scientist, FOSSEE, IIT Bombay. He is Ph.D. Scholar, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Bombay & Recipient of Outstanding Young Chemical Engineer Award 2020 & Mr. Evan Fernandes, OpenFOAM Expert, Research Assistant, FOSSEE, IIT Bombay. He is B.Tech. in Aerospace Engineering.
Their expertise and interactive, hands-on sessions provided participants with meaningful insights into the practical applications of DWSIM and OpenFOAM in chemical engineering. The program successfully bridged theoretical concepts with practical computational applications, enabling participants to enhance their simulation skills and gain exposure to industry relevant open source tools. Congratulations to all the participants on the successful completion of the program.
