About New VC of Bihar agricultural University Dr. P. K. Singh completed his Doctorate degree in Plant Breeding and Genetics from Rajendra Agricultural University, Pusa, Samastipur in the year 1988.
He started career as the Junior Scientist-cum-Asstt. Professor in the year 1989 at Jute Research Station, Katihar and thereafter worked at Sugarcane Research Institute, Pusa since 2000 to 2008.
He joined Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour as Chief Scientist-cum-University Professor and Head, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics in the year 2008.
He is the founder Chairman of Post Graduate Department of Plant Breeding Genetics and Biochemistry & Crop physiology. He has also served as the Chairman, Department of Molecular Biology Genetic Engineering and Chairman, Department of Horticulture (Vegetable & Floriculture).
He is actively involved in teaching, research and extension activities of the department. As a plant breeder, he has worked on several crops like Jute, Sugarcane and Rice for more than 29 years and developed new varieties suitable for different agro-climatic conditions of Bihar.
He has 20 varieties of Jute (1), Sugarcane (10) and Rice (9) to his credit. Dr. Singh has guided 14 post graduate students which includes nine masters and five PhD students. He has more than 139 publications to his credit in the form of research papers in international and national journals, abstracts, book chapter, Practical manuals etc. He has been honoured with Fellow, Indian Society of Genetics and Plant Breeding and University Gold Medal for securing first rank in Ph.D. programme. Dr. Singh has also served the university in various other capacities as Assoc. Director Research (HQ); Director Research; Co-ordinator of IQAC; Nodal officer for implementation of Career Advancement Scheme; Chairman of Grievance Redressal Committee, Member, Board of Education, DRPCAU, Pusa, Member Board of Directors, BRBN, Patna.
