How does Applied Electronics and Instrumentation programme compare with other branches of Engineering?

At present, large scale on campus placements take place in the IT sector, but the best recruitments in the core domains take place in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). The opportunities in PSUs are on a smaller scale but with much higher remuneration.

The scope in core engineering domains can be assessed by the statistics on annual recruitment in PSUs in a particular branch compared against the number of candidates graduating per year in that particular branch.

The following table provides a sample calculation for assessing the scope of Instrumentation in the core domain, with respect to a notification from a public sector unit in 2021 and the number of students appearing for GATE (which can represent the volume of candidates from a branch in a particular year).

Why Applied Electronics and Instrumentation?

Applied Electronics emphasizes applying the knowledge, both theory and practicals of Electronics and Instrumentation to achieve solutions to real world problems. Students will gain expertise in practical implementation of various fundamental principles of electronics and its methods. They will learn about commercial and industrial devices such as Microprocessors, Microcontrollers and Electronic Instruments that can be used for measurement and control. They also learn about Programmable Logic Controllers, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, and Distributed Control Systems which are capable of running industrial production systems that are spread over large geographical distances. They will become familiarized with Automation, Virtual Instrumentation with LabVIEW and many modern developments such as Internet Of Things. Thus they acquire employability skills that are essential for modern industries
