Urgent Appeal for Support:

Dear Scholars and Friends,

Our esteemed colleague and dear friend, Mr. Suman Paria, a dedicated research scholar from the ETCE department, is facing a critical health challenge. After undergoing surgery last year, Suman has been diagnosed with a recurrence of Cerebellar Cyst Hydrocephalus. He urgently needs to undergo another critical surgery (cystoperitoneal shunt) next week due to the reappearance of the tumor.

Unfortunately, the cost of this life-saving treatment is estimated at Rs. 2,20,000, a burden too heavy for Suman’s family to bear alone. They have reached out to our honorable Vice-Chancellor for financial assistance, but the need is immediate, and every bit of support counts.

In these challenging times, the Jadavpur University Democratic Research Scholars’ Forum (JUDRSF) calls upon all scholars, friends, and well-wishers to come together in solidarity. As a community, let’s rally around Suman and provide the financial support needed to ensure he receives the care and treatment he deserves.

Today (20/06/2024), we, research scholars of the Jadavpur University Democratic Research Scholars Forum (JUDRSF), have submitted a deputation to the Vice Chancellor to place the demand of formation of an investigation committee with proper research scholars' representation to address and resolve the issue of lack of transparency in the PhD admission process within the Faculty of Arts, specifically concerning the case of the department of International Relations (IR). It is deeply concerning that the university's reputation, sanctity and integrity are at risk, especially since recordings of conversations regarding this matter are being circulated publicly on social media. Therefore, we urgently call for a thorough, transparent, fast, impartial investigation.

Due to the ongoing movement over the past year, Jadavpur University has established a Research Scholar Representative for Research Scholars (RS) and formed an Institution's Innovation Council (I.I.C.) and a Placement Cell. This initiative will contribute to the overall progress of research in Jadavpur University in the coming days.

To appoint Research Scholar Representatives in the Placement Cell as Central Placement Coordinators (C.P.C.s) and in the Institution's Innovation Council (I.I.C.), a Research Scholars' General Body (G.B.) Meeting has been scheduled as follows:

আরেকটা খুশীর খবর

যে-কোনো গবেষণায় research community-র feedback খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ একটি অংশ। আর এই feedback-এর অন্যতম দু'টি মাধ্যম হল journal ও conference।

কিন্তু এমন বহু গুরুত্বপূর্ণ conference থাকে যেখানে নাম লেখাতে অনেকটা টাকা দিতে হয়। এদিকে Conference-এ কারো research paper accepted হ'লে শুধু scholar এবং guide-এর নাম যায় না, সেই research Institute-এর নামও যায়। তাই Institute-এরও financial contribution-এর দায়িত্ব বর্তায়। কিন্তু এ নিয়ে কোনো নিয়ম এতদিন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ছিল না। সমস্ত দায়টাই ছিল scholar এবং guide-এর। কর্তৃপক্ষ মাঝে মাঝে RUSA, TEQIP-এর মতো কিছু project থেকে সুযোগ হ'লে কিছু scholar-দের conference বাবদ কিছু টাকাপয়সা দিত। কিন্তু সেটাও কিছুদিন চলার পর বন্ধ হয়ে গিয়েছিল। আর এ নিয়ে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের এতদিন কোনো আলাদা policy ছিল না।

গতবছর JUDRSF-এর পথচলা শুরুর পর থেকেই কর্তৃপক্ষের কাছে নানাকিছু নিয়ে বারবার গিয়েছি আমরা। তার মধ্যে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দাবী ছিল প্রত্যেক স্কলার পিছু বছরে ন্যূনতম ১টি আন্তর্জাতিক এবং ৩টি জাতীয় স্তরের conference-এ অংশ নেওয়ার খরচা কর্তৃপক্ষকে দিতে হবে।

শুধু JUDRSF নয়, অনেক দিন থেকেই research community-র বিভিন্ন corner এবং অনেক faculty এই নিয়ে concern দেখাতে দেখাতে গেছেন।

কিন্তু আপাতত খুশীর খবর হল এই যে, কর্তৃপক্ষ একজন registered Ph.D. scholar (যারা কোনো না কোনো ফেলোশিপ পায়) পিছু বছরে conference বাবদ ১০,০০০ টাকা দেওয়ার কথা আজ ঘোষণা করেছে। আপাতত কিছুটা হলেও সুখবর। বিশেষতঃ এটি একটি policy decision হিসেবে গৃহীত হওয়ায়।

অন্ততঃ শুরুটা আজ হল। আশা করি অদূর ভবিষ্যতে আরও ভালো কোনো খবর আসবে।

নীচে JUDRSF-এর deputation-এ এই বিষয়টি সংক্রান্ত demand এবং কর্তৃপক্ষের ঘোষণার attachment রইল।

(বিঃদ্রঃ- যদিও আমরা চাইবো এরকম আধাআধি/ভাগাভাগি নয়, আমাদের দাবী পুরোটাই যাতে achieved হয়, যাতে প্রত্যেক Ph.D. scholar-রাই conference বাবদ প্রয়োজনীয় খরচা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের থেকে পায়। এটা Research scholar-দের দয়াদাক্ষিণ্যের ব্যাপার নয় যে, "এই নাও একটু দিলাম তোমাদের, এই নিয়ে শান্ত থাকো!" এটা research-এর ক্ষেত্রে কর্তৃপক্ষের responsibility, accountability এবং prioritization-এর প্রশ্ন৷)

যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রিসার্চ স্কলারদের বিভিন্ন দাবিদাওয়া নিয়ে আমরা J.U.D.R.S.F. এর পক্ষ থেকে গত ৪ মাস ধরে টানা আওয়াজ তুলছি।

গবেষকদের জন্য ন্যূনতম ২০০০০ টাকা ফেলোশিপ, I.C.C. (Internal Complaint Committee) তে রিসার্চ স্কলারদের প্রতিনিধি রাখা, Placement Cell তৈরি করা, Grievance Cell তৈরি করা, দেশীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক কনফারেন্স এর জন্য গবেষকদের ফান্ড দেওয়া, RUSA CSIR DST সহ সমস্ত প্রজেক্ট চালু রাখা, গবেষণা ক্ষেত্রে Industrial collaborations তৈরি করা, গবেষণার জন্য উপযুক্ত পরিবেশ ও পরিকাঠামো তৈরি করা... ইত্যাদি বিভিন্ন দাবিদাওয়া নিয়ে আমরা যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রিসার্চ স্কলাররা আমাদের লড়াই চালিয়ে যাচ্ছি...

অবশেষে, গত ৩ রা নভেম্বর ২০২২, কর্তৃপক্ষ আমাদের বেশ কিছু গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দাবি মেনে নিল। কর্তৃপক্ষের তরফ থেকে Pro-VC লিখিত ভাবে জানালেন যে, ICC তে রিসার্চ স্কলারদের নির্বাচিত প্রতিনিধি থাকবে, রিসার্চ স্কলারদের জন্য Placement Cell তৈরি হবে এবং সেখানে রিসার্চ স্কলারদের প্রতিনিধি থাকবে ও গবেকদের জন্য Grievance Cell তৈরি করা হবে।

অবশ্যই এটা আমাদের প্রাথমিক ভাবে এগোনো... আমরা রিসার্চ স্কলারদের দাবিগুলো নিয়ে টানা ৪ মাস ধরে লেগে ছিলাম বলেই কর্তৃপক্ষ আমাদের বেশ কিছু দাবি মেনে নিয়েছে...

তবে এখানেই শেষ নয়, আমাদের আরো অনেকগুলো দাবি এখনও বাকি আছে... আমরা যদি সবাই মিলে একসাথে আওয়াজ তুলি তাহলে আমাদের দাবিগুলো পূরণ হবেই... যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সমস্ত রিসার্চ স্কলারদের কাছে আমাদের, J.U.D.R.S.F. এর তরফ থেকে আহবান সকলে আমরা একজোট হই... আমাদের নিজেদের দাবি আমরা নিজেরাই লড়ে নেব...

The students of South Asian University (SAU), Delhi have been protesting since October 13, 2022 demanding increase in Master's and PhD Scholarships, inclusion of student representatives in university bodies and other research related issues.

Rather than addressing these issues which hinder the students from engaging in research works better, the university authority have resorted to their oft-repeated tactic of intimidation and violence against the students. In response to peaceful sit-in demonstration of the students, the university authority have initially set up a police van outside the university premises, sent in riot police against the students and finally expelled 5 students and research scholars. We have seen it happen at our university in 2014 when the university authority unleashed police brutality on the students. We also saw the immense outpouring of people in protest, culminating in the 'Hok Kolorob' movement, finally resulting in the termination of the then Vice-Chancellor.

We know that there have been a consistent attack on research community be it in terms of funding or through suffocating the research environment. We, the research scholars of "Jadavpur University Democratic Research Scholars' Forum (J.U.D.R.S.F.)" stand in complete solidarity with the SAU students and research scholars and their fight for a better research environment, adequate funding and more inclusive campus and strongly condemn the university authorities attack on the students while ignoring their repeated appeals for discussion regarding these issues.

আজকে JUDRSF এর পক্ষ থেকে E.C. তে রিসার্চ স্কলারদের বিভিন্ন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দাবীসমূহ জানানো হল।

দাবীগুলো আদায় না হওয়া পর্যন্ত যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রিসার্চ স্কলারদের লড়াই জারি থাকবে।

As per the invititaion from Jadavpur University authority, today (5th August 2022) a representative team of JUDRSF attended the 'All Stakeholders' Meeting' and voiced out 11 phase of demands in the house. The copy of the deputation submitted to the VC and Pro-VC, JU. (receipt copy of the depuation is in the comment.)

Authority has acknowledged the long term unaddressed issues of the reseaech scholars and assured for further positive discussion.

We will be vigilant to the progress on these extremely important and relevant issues.

We urge all the research scholars of this unversity to join hands to create a scientific and sustainable research environment.

Our demands:

1. Every registered research scholar must be given an Institute Fellowship of amount more than Rs. 20,000 per month.

2. A Placement Cell including research scholar representatives must be set up to ensure research scholars can properly avail career opportunities in both the academic and the corporate sector after the completion of their PhD.

3. Necessary action must be taken to ensure a proper research-inductive environment – including ensuring the availability of proper infrastructure and funding to the research scholars.

4. Funds must be provided to the research scholars to attend at least 1 International Conference and 3 National Conferences each year to publish their research work.

5. Efforts must be made to ensure the continuity of project-based Research Fellowships for research scholars in the university (e.g., RUSA, CSIR, DST, etc.).

6. The university administration must set up industrial collaborations in the research domain to widen the scope of work for the research scholar in the university.

7. A Grievance Cell must be set up immediately to address the complaints raised by the research scholars.

8. The Thesis must be communicated within 30 days of its final submission as any additional delay gravely affects the research scholars future opportunities.

9. Libraries and laboratories in the university should be accessible 24x7 to all research scholars to ensure research works can be conducted smoothly.

10. A research scholar representative must be included in the university’s I.C.C.

11. Imposing additional GST on laboratory equipment and consumables will greatly affect the experimental research flow. It should be withdrawn. Moreover, proper and regular repair and maintenance mechanisms must be ensured for all the equipment.

'গবেষণা' এই বিষয়টির গুরুত্ব দিনের পর দিন নিচের দিকে নামছে।
যদিও এমন অনেক কিছুই আছে, যা বাদ দিয়ে আমরা আজকের দিনে কেউ কিছু ভাবতেই পারি না, সেই সমস্ত কিছুর সৃষ্টি'ই হয়েছে প্রচুর প্রচুর গবেষণার মধ্য দিয়ে।

আর এই গবষণা করার জন্য কিছু জিনিস (যেমন - গবেষণার উপযুক্ত পরিবেশ, স্বাধীনতা, মুক্ত চিন্তা, গাইডের সাথে সুষ্ঠু বোঝাপড়া, ইনফ্রাস্ট্রাকচার, সায়েন্টিফিক টেম্পারামেন্ট, ফেলোশিপ ইত্যাদি...) খুবই প্রয়োজন যা বাদ দিয়ে কোনো গবেষকের পক্ষেই গবেষণা করা বা গবেষণার কাজ এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়া সম্ভব নয়। সাথে দরকার ইনস্টিটিউট/বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, গাইড/সুপারভাইজার, সরকারের সহযোগিতা।

সম্প্রতি যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের আর্টস ফ্যাকাল্টির International Relations ডিপার্টমেন্টের এক অধ্যাপকের বিরুদ্ধে ওই ডিপার্টমেন্টের'ই এক গবেষকের "Attempt to R**e" এর অভিযোগ সামনে এসেছে। কেন এই মানসিকতা থাকবে কারোর? অভিযোগকারিণীর বিবৃতি থেকে আমরা এও জানতে পেরেছি যে তাকে তার সেই গাইড থিসিস সাবমিশন করার আগে নানা কুপ্রস্তাব দেন, নানা অশালীন মন্তব্য করেন, নানা অযাচিত কাজকর্মও করতে বলেন, যেগুলি না করলে তার থিসিস গৃহীত হবে না বলে ইঙ্গিত করেন সেই অধ্যাপক। গবেষণার জায়গায় এরকম পরিবেশ কেন থাকবে! উচিত ছিল তো গবেষণার কাজ গাইড এবং স্কলার উভয়েই দারুন বোঝাপড়া সহ তাদের কাজ এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাবে এক বন্ধুত্বপূর্ন, সহযোগিতামূলক, সুস্থ, স্বাভাবিক, সুসম্পর্কের মধ্যে দিয়ে। যদিও যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ছাত্র/গবেষক দের সাথে শিক্ষকদের সম্পর্ক একেবারেই আলাদা, যা অন্যান্য কলেজ-বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে সেভাবে দেখা যায় না।

এই অভিযোগ সামনে এসেছে ১৯ দিন হয়ে গেল, পুলিশ প্রশাসন ও কর্তৃপক্ষ সুবিচারের জন্য উপযুক্ত কোনো ব্যবস্থা নেয় নি।

এই পরিস্থিতিতে দাঁড়িয়ে, JUDRSF (Jadavpur University Democratic Research Scholars' Forum) এর পক্ষ থেকে গত ২৭শে জুন, প্রথম ডেপুটেশন দেওয়া হয় VC -র কাছে দ্রুত, নিরপেক্ষ, স্বচ্ছ ও পূর্নাঙ্গ তদন্তের দাবী জানিয়ে এবং তদন্ত কমিটিতে রিসার্চ স্কলারদের প্রতিনিধি রাখারও দাবী জানানো হয়।

এরপর ১১ই জুলাই, যাদবপুর থানায় OC -র কাছে দ্রুত ব্যবস্থা নেওয়ার দাবী জানিয়ে ডেপুটেশন দেওয়া হয়।

১৩ই জুলাই VC তথা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কর্তৃপক্ষের কাছে আবারও ডেপুটেশন দেওয়া হয়, তদন্ত প্রক্রিয়া শুরু করতে কেন এত দেরি করছে কর্তৃপক্ষ তথা I.C.C. (ইন্টার্নাল কম্প্লেন্ট কমিটি) তার জবাব দিতে হবে VC কে। সাথে দ্রুত তদন্ত প্রক্রিয়া শুরু করার দাবী জানানো হয় এবং সেই তদন্ত প্রক্রিয়ার স্বচ্ছতা নিশ্চিত করতে রিসার্চ স্কলারদের প্রতিনিধি রাখারও দাবী জানানো হয়। এছাড়াও গবেষকদের গবেষণা সংক্রান্ত এবং অন্যান্য নানা সমস্যা জানানোর জন্য অবিলম্বে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সমস্ত গবেষকদের জন্য 'Grievance Cell' খোলার দাবী জানানো হয়।

একটানা বলে যাওয়ার পর, অবশেষে কর্তৃপক্ষ উত্তর দিতে বাধ্য হল। VC মেইল মারফত জানালেন যে, তদন্ত প্রক্রিয়া দ্রুত শুরু করার নির্দেশ I.C.C. কে তিনি দিয়েছেন, সাথে তদন্ত প্রক্রিয়াতে রিসার্চ স্কলারদের প্রতিনিধি রাখার দাবীও মেনে নেয় কর্তৃপক্ষ এবং রিসার্চ স্কলারদের প্রতিনিধির নাম এবং মেইল আইডি চেয়ে পাঠায় I.C.C.।

যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের যে বিশ্বজোড়া নাম, তার অন্যতম একটি বড় কারণ তার গবেষণা এবং সেখানে গবেষকদের কথা বলার, সমস্যা জানানো, দাবী জানানোরও অধিকার আছে। আর এখান থেকে এইটুকু শিক্ষা হল যে, একটানা ন্যায্য দাবীর কথা বলে গেলে দাবী আদায় করা যে সম্ভব তা JUDRSF দেখিয়ে দিল।

গবেষকদের জন্য JUDRSF আওয়াজ তুলছে... তুলবে...
গবেষণার জন্য সুষ্ঠু পরিবেশ, পরিকাঠামো, ফেলোশিপ, সায়েন্টিফিক টেম্পারামেন্ট রক্ষা করতে ও সুনিশ্চিত করতে JUDRSF আওয়াজ তুলছে... তুলবে...
