Calcutta Institute of Engineering and Management, a prominent college of Engineering and management started her journey in the year 2003 with an aim to develop a “Center for Excellence” by some eminent academicians, social workers and most importantly the Government of West Bengal. The Institute with 5.08 acres of land has built up a huge infrastructure in the shape of lecture rooms, laboratory ro

oms, and a central library with other amenities as per the AICTE guidelines. Calcutta Institute of Engineering and Management (CIEM) is situated in Tollygunge, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The college was founded in 2003, and is partially government-aided. It is a non-residential engineering college, with facilities that includes a medical unit,library,canteen and one play ground. Departments:

Civil Engineering (60 seats)
Computer Science and Engineering (60 seats)
Electronics and Communication Engineering (60 seats)
Electrical Engineering (120 seats)
Instrumentation and Control Engineering (60 seats)
Information Technology (60 seats)
Bachelor of Business Administration(Honours)
Bachelor of Computer Application
Master of Business Application (60 Seats)

It offers degrees in engineering, technology and management - B. All courses are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education AICTE, the Government of India and the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal. The Institute is affiliated with the West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT).

As many as 11 engineering institutions in West Bengal have qualified for grants through Phase II of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP). The State government has signed a MoU with all the 11 institutions. Out of the 11 colleges, eight are government and government-aided institutions, while three are private colleges. Over the next four years, the government colleges will get a funding of Rs 10 crore each while the private ones will get Rs 4 crore each, according to a senior official. COST SHARE
The Centre and State government will share the cost in the ratio of 75:25. The funds will be utilised for scaling up of postgraduate education, introduction of demand-driven research and development and innovation, establishing centres of excellence for focused applicable research, training of faculty for effective teaching and enhancing institutional and system management effectiveness. The eight government colleges selected for TEQIP Phase II are: RCC Institute of Information Technology, College of Engineering and Management, Kolaghat, Bankura Unnajani Institute of Engineering, University Institute of Technology, Burdwan University, Government College of Engineering and Leather Technology, Kolkata,
CALCUTTA INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT,
West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata, Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology, Birbhum. The three private colleges include Heritage Institute of Technology, MCKV Institute of Technology and Narula Institute of Technology. TEQIP Phase I (2004-09) also covered 11 institutions in West Bengal at an outlay of about Rs 147 crore. TEQIP is a World Bank-assisted project launched in 2003 by the Union Ministry of Human Resources and Development for strengthening the quality of technical education in the country. The total project outlay is Rs 2,430 crore, in which the World Bank will contribute Rs 1,395 crore. The Centre will contribute Rs 500 crore, while the State government will chip in Rs 518 crore. The private unaided institutions will contribute Rs 16 crore.
