Food Technology, GNIT Food technology is a branch of science in which the food science is applied in manufacturing and preservations of food products.

The department of Food Technology was started at GNIT in the year of 2006-07 with the total intake of 60 students for 4 year-B.Tech course in Food Technology. The department has a great treasure of faculty members from Jadavpur and Calcutta University and West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences with Doctoral degrees in the professional fields and Post doctoral research experience in

India as well as abroad. The department has well organized laboratories with modern sophisticated equipment for student’s practical and research project work. The department received financial assistance from the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Govt. of India, New Delhi, for creating infrastructural facilities to provide best training to students in the professional field in the thrust area of Food technology. The department provides in-plant training to all students in Food Processing plant in and around Kolkata and also placement is being done with the assistance from the Training and Placement Cell of the institute. The department organizes special workshop, seminar, invited talk by eminent experts from India as well as abroad. The department initiated collaborative research program with the department of Food Technology and biochemical engineering, Jadavpur University. The relationship between faculty members and students is excellent with individual care for every student. Graduated students are generally placed in different multi national companies..
