The time around us is actually difficult. We have people struggling for survival, battling between Covid-19 and want of food. For people in different parts of Bengal, particularly in the Sundarbans, the situation is much worse as Amphan had wreaked havoc and rendered millions homeless and waterless. Many of us in the city are struggling with our own existence, but there are still many good souls who have sacrificed their own comforts in their homes and taken the extra effort to go out there and stand by the people of Sundarbans and other affected areas. Many of us are fortunate enough to know 3 such individuals very who have taken such initiatives.
About the First Collage - Dr. Prasenjit Das (Head of Department of Department of Microbiology, Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College), and Rishin Basu Roy (ex-student and ex faculty member of Zoology Department of Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College) along with their teams have taken an initiative and have physically reached out to 2575 families so far in the last few days in areas like Pathorpratima, Kultoli, Bali of Sundarbans - stood by the people, helped them with relief materials and have also helped in pond water restoration for fisheries and for drinking purposes, with the extreme help of Tathagata Talukder, who also happens to be an ex-student this department. The team is again going to Sundarbans tomorrow for further relief work.
About the Second Collage - Debraj Das, an ex student of Department of Microbiology, Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College, along with 4 of his other friends went to Amtali area of Sundarbans yesterday and gave relief materials to 465 families.
What many of us kept thinking of doing but got stuck with the thought in our mind because of safety issues & other factors, these people have gone and done it.
You will not see social distancing in both the pictures. People out there are dying out of hunger, without homes, without drinking water. Social distancing, sanitizers, properly cooked food, etc are simply a dream to them. Yes, they do exist, in millions, starving, struggling helplessly. And people like Dr. Prasenjit Das, Rishin Basu Roy, Debraj Das, Tathagata Talukder also exist - who take the plight of others above their own comforts and safeties.
This post is not for the publicity of our own people, as we know there are many others also extending their help to people. This post is just an appeal to all, not to lose humanity in this pandemic condition, to be kind, be generous, stand by each other and help each other, till we all survive this, and win this together.
