It is with profound grief and deep sorrow that the Indian Maritime University, Kolkata Campus, mourns the untimely demise of Engineering Officer Rohan Kumar (Roll No. 8199, DMET Class of 2016–2020), who tragically lost his life while serving onboard the ADNOC vessel Al Bayah in a reported Iranian missile attack.

A dedicated marine engineer and a proud alumnus of our institution, Rohan Kumar embodied the values of courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to duty that define the spirit of Indian seafarers. His untimely passing is an immense loss to the maritime fraternity and to the entire IMU Kolkata family.

We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family, friends, batchmates, colleagues, and fellow seafarers during this time of unimaginable grief. We pray that they find the strength and resilience to bear this irreparable loss.

May the Almighty grant eternal peace to his noble soul and provide comfort to all those mourning his passing.

As a mark of respect and remembrance, a condolence meeting was held at the Indian Maritime University, Kolkata Campus, where faculty members, officers, staff, and cadets gathered to pay tribute to the life and service of Engineering Officer Rohan Kumar. The gathering observed a moment of silence and offered prayers for the eternal peace of his departed soul.

The Indian Maritime University Stands with the welfare of Seafarers across the globe and will continue to keep up the maritime traditions higher and higher in the coming years.

DMET has lost a hardworking, humble, and ever-smiling seafarer.

With profound sorrow, we mourn the untimely demise of our beloved batchmate, Rohan Kumar (8199, DMET Batch 2016–2020).

Rohan was a warm-hearted, soft-spoken, and genuinely kind individual whose smile could brighten any room. His humility, dedication, and compassionate nature earned him the respect and affection of everyone who knew him. Whether in college or at sea, he carried himself with sincerity, professionalism, and a positive spirit.

His passing is an immense loss not only to his family but also to the entire DMET fraternity and the maritime community. The memories he leaves behind will forever remain in our hearts.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time. May God grant them strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss.

The rising tensions in the West Asian region have affected an Indian family from the Gopalganj district of Bihar. The Indian seafarer Rohan Kumar died last Tuesday when two Emirati oil tankers became the targets of a missile attack in the volatile Strait of Hormuz. While India lodges a protest at the highest level of diplomacy against Iran, the family of Rohan is left in shock, awaiting for the return of the body of their beloved son.

With profound grief, we extend our humble obeisance to the memory of Engineering Officer Rohan Kumar (DMET Batch 2016–2020), who reportedly lost his life while serving onboard the ADNOC vessel Al Bahiyah during the recent Iranian missile attack.

Rohan was not only a dedicated marine engineer but also an active and vibrant member of the DMET fraternity. During his college years, he served as an elected member of the Tempest Finance Committee (Organising Core Group Batch 2016-2020), earning the respect and affection of his batchmates.

His courage, commitment to duty, and service to the maritime profession will always be remembered.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his parents, family, friends, batchmates, colleagues, and all who knew him. May they find strength during this unimaginably difficult time.

Indian Maritime University, Kolkata Campus (Erstwhile DMET / MERI) was deeply honoured to welcome Shri Vijay Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (India), to our campus on June 4th, 2026.

The Secretary's visit came in the backdrop of high-level deliberations with the Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal on a transformative maritime development agenda, one that envisions investments towards modernisation of port infrastructure, expansion of inland waterways, enhancement of shipbuilding and ship-repair capabilities, and strengthening of regional trade, logistics, and employment. During the visit, Shri Vijay Kumar engaged in an open and substantive discussion.

The visit was not merely ceremonial. It was a reaffirmation that the work done within these walls matters to the nation's maritime future.

On 20-21 March 2026 Mumbai witnessed India's premier Maritime fest NAUGHTICA 2026⚓

Aimed to gather like minded and talented maritime cadets under one roof for the toughest competition among the best Maritime college across India🔥

The competition varying across various themes filled with Technical Contests, Entertainment, Performances, Sports, HR and Networking opportunities.

They were successful in their mission to foster camaraderie and competitive excellence among maritime students.🙌

Our cadets were successful in receiving gold in FUTSAL⚽ and DOODLE ART COMPETITION🎨 and were 3rd in standing in terms of point table.

28th March 2026 marked another distinguished milestone when DMET-MERI ALUMNI(SINGAPORE) REUNION 2026 was held at The Ritz-Carlton, Singapore.

The event was successful after it was attended by over 500 attendees consisting of esteemed alumnus as well as various Maritime professionals responsible for shipping around the globe.

Dr. Malini V Shankar(IAS) Vice Chancellor of Indian Maritime University, Shri Sanjiv Mishra DMET class of 1991 (Roll No. 3806) President of DMET Alumni Association Singapore, Cdr. Gaurav Agarwal (Retd) DMET class of 1985 (Roll No. 3049), Shri Eswara Arun Kishore DMET class of 2001 (Roll No. 5020), are a part of the long list of notable professionals present from the Maritime field who graced this event with their presence

The 15th REUNION 2026 is a live proof of solidarity and unity among DMET-MERI Fraternity, it shows how our respected Alma Mater have excelled in the field of Maritime field and are continuing to do so and paving a path for the future batches as well.
