EMMRC, Kolkata EMRC, Kolkata produces multimedia academic material for undergraduate students. We produce multimedia academic material for undergraduate students.

These include class lectures and related exercises as well as documentaries on specific themes of academic and popular importance. It is a nearly thirty year old media research facility under the joint supervision of University Grants Commission,

India and St. Xavier's College, Kolkata. In 1986, it was established as Audio Visual Research Centre (AVRC) to produce educational television programmes. It was renamed Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC) in 2004, in sync with an expanded mandate to add greater value to its products and services with the help of digital technologies. At the moment, EMMRC researches and produces international standard classroom lectures for undergraduate students and documentaries on subjects of academic and general interest.

EMRC Kolkata conducted a one-day online SWAYAM MOOCs workshop at Berhampur Girls’ College on 27 February 2026. EMRC official Sabuj Konar explained the concept of MOOCs, the SWAYAM platform and CEC’s MOOCs along with complete enrolment process in detail. He also introduced the course Emergence of Early Historic India and discussed its key themes and academic significance. With the support of HOD, Dr. Debraj Chakraborty of the Department of History and other faculty members, several students actively participated in the workshop and benefited from it.

As part of its continued endeavour to promote digital learning and expand awareness of online education, EMRC Kolkata conducted a two-day SWAYAM outreach programme at Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College on 26 and 27 February 2026.

The team, comprising Indrani Chakrabarti, Julien Das, Richard Gomes, Suman Banerjee, and Shyam Sundar Paul, was present on both days. They highlighted the academic advantages of enrolling in CEC’s MOOCs, including credit transfer, skill enhancement, and flexible learning opportunities. The step-by-step guidance provided during the workshops encouraged many students to register for courses offered in the ongoing semester.

As part of the ongoing SWAYAM MOOCs campaign, a team of EMRC officials comprising Dr Moasunep Kichu, Shyam Sunder Paul, Arindam Konar, Suman Banerjee, and Gopal Chetri visited the Department of English at St. Xavier’s University on 25 February 2026. The Head of the Department, Dr Medha Bhadra, emphasised the role of SWAYAM and encouraged the students to take advantage of the platform.
The officials provided detailed information to the students about the CEC’s MOOCs, key features, and academic advantages of SWAYAM. They further organised a practical demonstration of the registration process and responded to the students’ queries.

As part of its continued endeavour to promote digital learning and expand awareness of online education, EMRC Kolkata conducted an outreach programme at Sonarpur Mahavidyalaya College on 23 February 2026. The initiative aimed to familiarise students with the opportunities available through the SWAYAM platform and to encourage active participation in CEC’s MOOCs.
EMRC official Indrani Chakrabarti provided a comprehensive overview of the SWAYAM platform. A detailed, step-by-step demonstration of the enrolment process was conducted by Richard Gomes, Arindam Konar, Shyam Sunder Paul, and Suman Banerjee. The outreach programme received a positive response, with many students enrolling in courses for the ongoing semester. The initiative successfully strengthened awareness about online learning opportunities and promoted greater academic engagement through MOOCs.

EMRC Kolkata made use of Elan, the cultural fest of the Multimedia Department of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, held on 19 and 20 February 2026 at the Fr. Depelchin Auditorium of the college. A separate desk was set up to promote SWAYAM courses during this vibrant academic and cultural gathering. With the help of informative posters and leaflets highlighting the features, benefits, and enrolment procedures of SWAYAM MOOCs, students were encouraged to register, resulting in on-the-spot enrolments.
Beyond the fest venue, EMRC officials Fr. Dr. Julien Das, Richard Gomes, Indrani Chakrabarti, Kalipada Mondol, Shyam Sunder Paul, Arindam Konar, Birender Toppo, Chandan Gharai, and Suman Banerjee conducted focused awareness visits to various departments of the college on both days, receiving an encouraging response.

A team of EMRC Kolkata officials comprising Dr. Moasunep Kichu, Fr. Dr. Julien Das, and Shyam Sunder Paul visited the Department of Mass Communication at St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata on 18 February 2026, to promote SWAYAM courses and digital learning opportunities. The HOD, Dr Harish Kumar, highlighted the role of EMRC.
The officials briefed the students about the significance, features, and academic benefits of SWAYAM courses. They also conducted a hands-on demonstration of the course registration process and addressed various queries raised by the students.

Dr. Rakshak Jain, Director, EMRC Kolkata, conducted a CEC's MOOCs awareness meet with the Principal, Vice-Principals, and Deans of St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata on 10.02.2026. In this interactive session, the UGC (Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through SWAYAM) Regulations, 2021 Gazette Notification was discussed, highlighting the scope for adoption of UGC-CEC SWAYAM Courses into the formal education setting in a blended way. The workflow of the SWAYAM portal, followed by query resolutions and MOOC adaptation steps, was discussed. As a result of this meet, Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio, SJ, the Principal of the College, has issued an academic circular for all Vice-Principals, Deans, and Faculty Members to make students aware of SWAYAM MOOC courses, enabling them to take advantage of free enrolments with free and open educational resources.
