With the advance of technology and introduction of power looms, the age-old tradition is fading away, it is our duty as textile enthusiasts to restore and uplift the craft to its former glory.
‘A WEAVERS APPROACH..’
The event was inaugurated on 8TH December in the presence of the KSID Family as well as tremendous support from Textile/ weave lovers across Kollam. The event was graced with the presence of well-renowned Fashion Designers such as Mr. Mridul Jacob and Mrs. Aliya Raeesa Sulthana and many more eminent personalities in Kollam, who were awestruck with unseen effort taken behind the age old traditional practice of interlacing yarns. The visitors were explained the trememdous journey of how the yarn is formed into exquisite fabric of unique weaves patterns. The story begins with the Charka, with which the yarn (which is receieved in to form of ‘Hanks’ ) is wound onto a bobbin which in turn is wound around a warping beam according to the length, width and fabric colour required. From there it is stretched horizontally taken out of the beam and inserted into the loom, where each yarn is passed individually through the ‘hields eye’ and taken to the reed according to the drafting pattern required. The yarns inserted on to the loom form the warp yarns and the weft yarns are inserted by hand.
