Academic discussions taking place on any platform happen to become very exciting and the one-day national seminar conducted by the departments of Political Science and Economics, Kuriakose Elias College Mannanam with the support of the Institute of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Kerala was no exception.
The theme of the seminar was 'Democracy, Social Justice and the New Media Order'.
Senior Journalist J***y Lukose delivered a thoughtful inaugural talk based on the theme 'The New Media Order'.
In the subsequent technical sessions, former MLA Sabarinadhan K S presented a paper on the theme 'My Narrative is Your Truth: The Politics of Disninformation' which opened up the forum for some active discussions.
The second session was handled by noted scriptwriter/author Bipin Chandran who presented a paper on the theme 'പുതുതലമുറയിലെ അധികാര പ്രയോഗങ്ങൾ' (Contemporary Social Orders and Power Relations). The session was followed by some exciting discussions.
Later in the afternoon sessions, Rakesh M Krishnan shared his thoughts on the theme 'Eco-Chambers and truth Seekers of Democracy: The Gordian Knot', and Bijulal Mecheril presented a paper on a very relevant topic titled 'Disseminating Rights: New Media Platforms and Sexuality Education in India'.
PS: Lady speakers who were supposed to attend the event had to drop off due to unavoidable situations and the absence of ladies in the panel will duly be compensated by an all-lady panel seminar from our side very soon. We really do understand the imbalance in this panel and would compensate for that.
