re in South India was founded in 1995 at Kottayam –the land of letters, latex and lakes. It was established to train working journalists, public relations professionals and state information officers. For the first time in 2012, IIMC Kottayam opened its doors to graduate students with the Postgraduate Journalism Programme in English. The success of the Journalism programme at IIMC, can be attributed to strong practical focus and industry interface. Journalism Mentorship Initiative (JMI), which is only available at IIMC Kottayam, makes sure that our students are moulded into industry-ready professionals. In 2017, the IIMC Kottayam launched it prestigious Malayalam Journalism Programme to set new quality standards in the regional milieu. 🌿 Learning from Nature, Inspired by Dedication 🌿

The students and faculty of IIMC Kottayam had the privilege of visiting Tapovanam, a serene forest nurtured with vision and care by Padma Shri Smt. Devaki Amma. Her inspiring journey stands as a powerful reminder of how individual efforts can create lasting ecological impact.

Also a recipient of several honours including the Union Government’s Nari Shakti Puraskar, Indira Priyadarshini Vrikshamitra Award, and Vanamithra Award, Devaki Amma has devoted her life to reforesting parts of Alappuzha, protecting nearly 3,000 rare plant species. Walking through Tapovanam was not just a visit—it was an experience of understanding sustainability, resilience, and the deep bond between humans and nature.
