SCHOOL CABINET INSTALLED AT DON BOSCO SCHOOL TRASI

In a solemn ceremony, the newly elected Leaders of Don Bosco School, Trasi – Kundapura were installed with the administering of the Oath and investing them with sashes and badges recently. Rev. Fr. Kiran Nazareth SDB, was the Chief Guest while Rev. Fr. Maxim D’Souza, the Rector presided over the function.

The Leaders elected for various posts are the following:
School Leaders: Nithyashree V. (School Head Girl), Kyalwin Crasta (School Head Boy), Jessel Crasta (School Asst. Head Girl), Prajwal D’Souza (School Asst. Head Boy)
House Captains: Alvita Rodrigues (Red House), Deepthi K. (Blue House), Milan Mascarenhas (Green House), Thomson Coutinho (Yellow House)
House Vice Captains: Genisia Mendonca (Red House), Carol Rebeiro (Blue House), Ryan Pinto (Green House), Sania Pais (Yellow House)

Besides these, the Class Coordinators of Houses and Class Monitors were also administered Oath of Office. The Chief Guest, Fr. Kiran Nazareth reminded the students that being part of Don Bosco is something they should be proud of because Don Bosco is an international brand in education. He also exhorted the leaders to lead with Compassion, Passion and Action to be effective leaders. Fr. Maxim D’Souza, in his presidential address highlighted that Don Bosco is preparing leaders of tomorrow. Citing the example of 2 students namely, Kyalwin Crasta (Vice President of YCS Central Council) & Joylin Dias (President of Kundapura YCS) who have bagged top offices in Udupi Diocesan Central Council, he pointed out that these students were not among those who would shine in curricular activities have now shown leadership qualities and Don Bosco School is preparing such future leaders.

Present on the occasion was Fr. Roshan D’Souza, the Administrator and Fr. Ronald Vaz, the Vice Principal. The program was compered by the students and was coordinated by Tr. Jyothi Reshma Quadras.

World Mental Health Day celebrated at Don Bosco School Trasi

World Mental Health Day was organized at Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Trasi by the ‘Club of Life’ of the Department of Wellness here recently. An expert from the field, Mr. Nagaraja Murthy, Psychologist, Dr. AV Balliga Memorial Hospital, Udupi addressed the gathering in two sessions.
The first session for students from 6th to 8th was regarding the general notion of mental health, the changes in early teenage that can influence mental health of children and the mental health hygiene. The second session for the students of grade 9th to 11th comprised of orientation of mental health and various behavioral addictions. The experienced speaker enlightened the participants about the current issues related to various forms of online addictions, especially online gaming and internet gambling with real life case studies. He discussed the strategies to manage the screen time for self and control oneself from being the victim of various online platform addictions. The session was successful with the active participation of teachers, students, the members of club, and the support of Fr. Leo Periera, Rector and Administrator. The Principal, Fr. Maxim D’Souza addressed the participants and gave a thought-provoking conclusion to the awareness program.

Su***de Prevention Awareness Week Celebrated at School

Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, under the aegis of the “Club of Life” from the Psychology Department successfully organized “Su***de Prevention Awareness Week” from 20th to 25th September. The students of Psychology of XI Std under the guidance of the School Wellness Teacher, Mrs. Raksh*tha N. J., conducted a host of activities for the students of 6th to 11th std
The organizing team conducted Drawing Competition for students of grade VI to VIII with the themes that encouraged students to have a positive outlook at their lives. The Poster making competition was held for students of grade X and XI with the theme, “Prevention of Su***de”.
The awareness program also comprised of information sharing through flyers and posters on school notice boards regarding the statistics of su***de, the risk factors, prevention strategies and source for help. The promotion of mental wellbeing was demonstrated through a skit on the assembly area by the students of grade XI and the members of ‘Club of Life’. All the students, teachers and management took a pledge as a ‘Su***de Prevention Ambassadors’ under the leadership of the Club members. The awareness program was effective with the active participation of students, teachers and the management. The ‘Su***de Prevention Awareness Week’ received an impactful closure with the address by The Principal, Fr. Maxim D’Souza to the gathering.

National Sports Day Celebrated

Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Trasi celebrated the birth anniversary of Major Dhyanchand as National Sports Day on 29th August in the School auditorium. The program was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the President, Fr. Maxim D’Souza, the Principal of the School, with Mrs. Smitha Kumari, the Coordinator of Middle & Secondary Section and Mr. Shivanand, the Health and Physical Education Coordinator as the Guests of Honour.

Master Alric Nazareth of Class XI Commerce, highlighted on the life of Major Dhyanchand through his Speech in English. Master Noah Mendonca of class VI performed his skills in Karate. Miss Carol Rebeiro of Class VIII, spoke online in Hindi on the importance of National Sports Day. Miss Dhanvi of class VIII, our international yoga athlete, performed some scintillating yoga postures online. An inspiring documentary on the life of Major Dhyanchand was screened online during the program.

Speaking on the occasion Fr. Maxim said that the School has organized this program to educate the students to know more about the life of Major Dhyanchand and inspire them to take up sports seriously in their lives. He marveled at the exceptional potential of Major Dhyanchand in his skills of playing hockey and helping India win Gold medals in 3 Olympics single handedly. He appreciated his love for the country when he turned down the offer of Hi**er to migrate to Germany. He also regretted that in spite of Dhyanchand’s exceptional prowess, the country did not give him the desired respect and recognition towards the end of his life. He exhorted the students to appreciate all sports personalities and emulate them. Quoting the examples of Ravi Shasthri, Vishwanathan Anand, P.V. Sindhu etc who have passed out from Don Bosco institutions, he encouraged the students to aim for national and international levels in sports.

The entire program was coordinated by Sir Shivanand with the help of teachers and students. Tr. Vanitha welcomed the gathering and Sir Shivanand proposed vote of thanks. GRAND CELEBRATIONS OF 75TH INDEPENDECE AT DON BOSCO SCHOOL, TRASI
Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Trasi celebrated the 75th Independence Day of the country in a grand manner at the School Campus. During the Flag Hoisting Ceremony and the Cultural Program, the Covid Victims and Warriors were remembered and were honoured in a symbolic way.
The National Tricolour was unfurled by Mr. Santhosh D’Souza, Proprietor of Globe Interlocks Nada and a Parent, who had recently suffered Covid 19 and regained his health after battling it out for almost a month. He represented all the Covid 19 victims among the Parents in the School. The messages of the Independence Day were delivered in 3 languages namely Hindi, Kannada and English by the students - Carol, Dhruti and Ashwin respectively. Fr. Maxim D’Souza, the Principal in his message said that, ‘today we are being held hostage by a new form of slavery, i.e., the Corona Virus. This small and unseen virus has conquered our lives and made us fearful more than the bombs and guns of yester years. All of us need to unitedly fight this virus by following the Covid Protocols very stringently.’ He also remembered the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives and families to give us a secure environment and he exhorted that we need to cherish it by respecting the rights of everyone as enshrined in our Constitution.
A cultural program was organized by the School Teachers to mark the occasion and fire the patriotic spirit of the student and parent community. Mrs. Bhagyalaxmi, the Kundapura Taluka Health Education Officer was the Chief Guest for the function. During this program, two groups of student achievers were felicitated. Masters Ethan D’Mello (3rd Std), Noah Mendonca (6th Std) and Riyon Mendonca (6th Std) were honoured for achieving the ‘Creator Level Title’ for completing all the tasks assigned by Lead School in the academic year 2020-21. International Yoga Athlete, Mrs. Dhanvi Poojary of 8th std was felicitated by the School for State level performance in Yoga and for getting her name in the ‘Karnataka Achiever’s Book of Records.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Bhagalaxmi observed that ‘today though we are celebrating 75 years of independence, we need to celebrate privately in our hearts due to the situation of the pandemic.’ Highlighting the 24x7 service of the health care workers for the past one year, she exhorted the parents and students to take care of their families and not expose the children to the virus unnecessarily. ‘We need to be ready if at all the 3rd wave of the pandemic comes at our door steps. We need to protect our children as there are warnings that it may affect them more.’
Teachers of the School put up cultural items comprising of dances, skits, song and fashion show. Both the programs were streamed live on the School’s YouTube Channel.

CYBER SECURITY AWARENESS PROGRAM HELD AT DON BOSCO TRASI

The Department of Wellness of Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Trasi conducted an awareness program on Cyber Security for the students of Secondary and Senior Secondary section on virtual mode here recently. The expert from the field, Mr. Prithveesh K, Founder of Prithvision established in Udupi, was the main resource person for the program.
The experienced speaker enlightened the participants about the current issues related to cyber security and shared his knowledge about parental control with real life examples. He addressed the concerns through a demonstration related to current trending issues of money scam, fraud links, gaming, social media which has been affecting most of our children’s lives, especially the teenagers and the role of the parents and guardians in keeping their virtual life safe. The session was successful with the active participation of teachers, parents and students.
“Cyber criminals have found a way of attacking people through the virtual mode. It is very important for all of us using the gadgets to be aware of the possible consequences and be knowledgeable to protect ourselves. Cyber Security is the practice of protecting systems, networks and programs from digital attacks”, he added.
The surge in online schooling and the pandemic’s effect in recent times has increased the screen time for children and adults equally. The time where number of electronic gadgets in the house is more than the residents, the mental wellbeing of people becomes a burning question. Thus, designing a wellness program which includes education, fitness challenges, therapy and many other plans structured to increase the overall health of an individual becomes important at every school.
The online Program was organized under the guidance of Mrs. Raksh*ta N.J., Head of the Wellness Department of the School. She was ably assisted by the students of ‘Club of Life’ belonging to Senior Secondary School. About 60 students and their parents participated in the program that lasted over 2 hours. The Principal, Fr. Maxim D’Souza addressed the participants and concluded the session.

DON BOSCO CARES FOR YOU...
With Covid 19 Lockdown, We, at Don Bosco School continued our students education online for classes KG - 10th std. It is almost a month since we have begun these classes. Students Exams were conducted on time and results declared. For KG - 8th std., we partnered with an academic partner, Lead School who offered us their LEAD SCHOOL@HOME, online classes which are much appreciated by the students and parents.
