Polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS) is a health problem that affects 1 in 10 women of childbearing age. Women with PCOS have a hormonal imbalance and metabolism problems that may affect their overall health and appearance. PCOS is also a common and treatable cause of infertility.
Polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS), also known as polycystic ovarian syndrome, is a common health problem caused by an imbalance of reproductive hormones. The hormonal imbalance creates problems in the ovaries. The ovaries make the egg that is released each month as part of a healthy menstrual cycle. With PCOS, the egg may not develop as it should or it may not be released during ovulation as it should be.

PCOS can cause missed or irregular menstrual periods. Irregular periods can lead to:

Infertility (inability to get pregnant). In fact, PCOS is one of the most common causes of infertility in women.
Development of cysts (small fluid-filled sacs) in the ovaries.

Each year, 28th may is marked as ‘WORLD MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY’. This day promotes spreading awareness and starting a conversation about the very natural process of menstruation. This year we are taking up the to talk about menstrual hygiene.
It’s time we removed the silence, stigma and taboo surrounding it and included men in the conversation. Neglecting menstrual hygiene can lead to reproductive tract infections(RTI) in women, which can be transmitted to offspring. According to the latest data collected by the ministry of health, only 12% of women and girls have access to sanitary napkins in India while a majority of them rely on outdated, unhygienic methods such as use of cloth pieces.

Pneumonia is the single biggest infectious killer of adults and children – claiming the lives of 2.5 million, including 672,000 children, in 2019. Children under five years old and adults over 65 years make up 75 percent of pneumonia deaths. Most pneumonia deaths occur in low and middle-income countries. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has highlighted the danger of pneumonia, particularly in adults, with almost 47 million cases globally and 1.2 million deaths to date.
To end the preventable burden of childhood pneumonia and deaths there is a need to:

Raise awareness about pneumonia, the leading killer of young children.
Strengthen, accelerate and sustain interventions to prevent and treat pneumonia.
Focus on equitable access to, and delivery of comprehensive pneumonia prevention and control programs.
Design specific strategies to reach the “harder-to reach” populations to improve their accessibility to available interventions.
Conduct research to develop innovative strategies to reduce the burden of pneumonia.
Together, we can end preventable deaths from pneumonia.

ICMR has approved CoviSelfTM (PathoCatch) Covid-19 Rapid Antigen test- a testing kit manufactured by Pune's Mylab Discovery Solutions Ltd.

The top medical body has advised against indiscriminate testing and has asked people to use it only in symptomatic individuals and immediate contacts of laboratory confirmed positive cases.

All individuals who test positive may be considered as true positives and no repeat testing is required.

ICMR also advised all symptomatic individuals who test negative by RAT should get themselves immediately tested by
RTPCR

This is especially important as the RATs are likely to miss few positive cases presenting with a low viral load.
