Educational Visit to Bhartendu Natya Academy

As part of their ‘Costume Design for Theatre’ subject, the CDGT 3rd Semester students visited Bhartendu Natya Academy (BNA), Lucknow, for an immersive learning experience into the world of theatre production.

The visit gave students an opportunity to understand how a theatre production comes together, from rehearsals and stage preparation to costumes, lighting, sound, backstage coordination and overall production management.

Students explored different theatre spaces, including the Proscenium and Thrust stages, and learned about their functioning and the role of stage design in shaping a performance. They also got an insight into the functioning of the green room and backstage areas, and how various departments work together to bring a play to life.

A particularly enriching part of the visit was interacting with the cast and production team currently working on a play at BNA. The students engaged in an interactive question-and-answer session, discussing costume requirements, character interpretation, costume changes, rehearsals and the practical challenges involved in designing costumes for theatre.

The visit helped students look beyond costume as an isolated design element and understand it as an integral part of character, storytelling and the larger theatrical experience.

Today, the faculty members and students of UPIDR visited Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Lucknow, for the inaugural ceremony of UP TEX 2026, a prestigious textile and fashion exhibition.

The visit was further graced by the presence of our Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri MYogiAdityanath Ji, who shared with us his valuable insights into the growing opportunities within the textile industry and the initiatives being undertaken to strengthen and promote the sector.

We also witnessed live demonstrations of handloom weaving, tie and dye techniques, and the process of converting fibre into yarn, no name a few.
The exhibition showcased a diverse range of handloom textiles, handicrafts, traditional crafts, and innovative creations.

Overall, the visit was an enriching, informative, and inspiring experience that enhanced our understanding of India's rich textile heritage and the immense opportunities available in the textile and fashion industry.
