Intach, Chapter: Madurai

Intach, Chapter: Madurai Vision:
To engage all the residents of Madurai to protect and cherish the ancient, strong culture & heritage of Madurai. WELCOME TO THE INTACH FAMILY!

INTACH is dedicated to conserving India’s heritage. Our mission is eloquently expressed in the INTACH logo that is derived from the 3000-year-old anthropomorphic copper figure of Shahabad, Uttar Pradesh. It symbolizes a human figure with arms turned inwards, suggesting that we hold the future of earth in our hands. We need to contemplate the direction we should take: Conservation of Inheritance or

consumption. It is the human genius that has created our diverse composite arts and cultural heritage over the centuries. Therefore, we believe that heritage enhances the quality of life and we must preserve it for future generation to enjoy. INTACH is an organization of volunteers who are deeply committed to conserving, and / enhancing India’s diverse cultural heritage. INTACH was established in 1984 with the mission and mandate enshrined in the Memorandum of Association that encompasses a holistic understanding of-

Built (architectural) heritage
Natural heritage
Art (material) heritage
Living (intangible) heritage

INTACH’s principal strength lies in its Chapters that form a wide network throughout the country. The Chapter Conveners facilitate action at the local level. The core professional staff at the Central Office support Chapter initiatives. PLEDGE:
I Care
For the wonders of nature
that are mine to protect. For the richness of culture
that I promise to respect. For the heritage of India
that is ours to protect.
