Aligarh Muslim University - Malappuram Centre Unofficial Aligarh Muslim University was established by the great social reformer, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. The AMU - MC has recently celebrated its 2nd anniversary.

Set in a 343 acre campus on a beautiful hillock at Chelamala (about 10 km away from Perinthalmanna) in the Malappuram district of Kerala, AMU - Malappuram Centre would be giving a much required fillip to the educational scenario in the state. It was established as the Mohammedan Anglo Oriental College (MAO College), in 1875. In 1920, the College was converted into a full fledged University by an a

ct of Parliament. Today,the Aligarh Muslim University is the 5th best University in the Country. The nation wide expansion of AMU in the form of establishment of centres in Kerala and West Bengal is a physical manifestation of the dream of the great founder. This expansion drive of AMU has been hailed by the national media as the "RELAUNCH OF THE ALIGARH MOVEMENT". The campuses have been established under Section 12(2) of the AMU Act 1981. The establishment of the AMU campuses would pave the way for an Educational Renaissance among the people of the respective regions. These campuses are envisioned to become separate universities when AMU would be celebrating its centenary celebrations in 2020. It has a total strength of 300 students, with 2 departments, namely the Department of Business Administration and the Department of Law. AMU Girls’ School Organizes Speech Activity to Mark 150 Years of 'Vande Mataram'

ALIGARH, August 20: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Girls’ School organized a speech activity on the occasion of Independence Day as part of the year-long commemoration marking 150 years of the National Song, "Vande Mataram."

The campaign, being observed from November 7, 2025 to November 7, 2026, seeks to commemorate the rich legacy of “VandeMataram” and inspire students with the values of patriotism, unity and national pride.

Ashvi Bharadwaj of Class IX-F delivered a speech in English highlighting the historical significance of “VandeMataram” and its role in India’s freedom struggle, while Anoma Nagar of Class XII Arts spoke in Hindi on the patriotic spirit embodied in the National Song and its relevance in contemporary India.

The activity provided students an opportunity to engage with India’s national heritage and express their understanding of the spirit of freedom and patriotism. It was conducted under the guidance of Ms. Huma Mukhtar and Ms. Anjum Fatima, event in-charges.

AMU Department of Business Administration Organizes Orientation Programme for 2026-28 Batch

ALIGARH, August 20: The Department of Business Administration (DBA), Faculty of Management Studies and Research (FMSR), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised an Orientation Programme for the 2026-28 batch, bringing together first and final-year students of MBA, MBA-IB, MBA-HA and MBA-IBF, along with faculty members.

The programme was presided over by Prof. M. Mohsin Khan, Pro Vice Chancellor, AMU, while Haji Zaheer, Chairman, Al-Hamd Food Products, Aligarh, graced the programme as Chief Guest.

Prof. M. Mohsin Khan congratulated the students on their admission and encouraged them to work collaboratively, maintain a positive academic environment and make the most of their time at the University. Haji Zaheer urged the students to work hard and give their best, emphasising that perseverance leads to success.

Prof. Mohammad Naved Khan, Dean, FMSR, welcomed the guests and students and highlighted the role of FMSR in developing leadership skills, besides outlining the facilities and resources available to students. Prof. Salma Ahmed, Chairperson, DBA, introduced the faculty and staff members.

The orientation included sessions on the history and development of the Department and the Frank & Debbie Islam Management Complex by Prof. Parvaiz Talib; curriculum, credit requirements, internships, dissertation, and academic regulations by Prof. Jamal Ahmad Farooquie; library and mentoring facilities by Prof. Valeed Ahmad Ansari; extracurricular activities, sports, and wellness by Prof. Asif Ali Syed; and industry internships by Prof. Feza Tabassum Azmi.

Final-year students Ms. Saneah Rashid and Mr. Areeb Khan shared their experiences with the new students. Dr. Zareen Husain Farooq conducted the programme, while Dr. Lamay Bin Sabir proposed the vote of thanks.

AMU Faculty Member Delivers Inaugural Address on Indian Knowledge System in Linguistics and Literature

ALIGARH, August 20: Prof. Mohammad JahangeerWarsi, Chairman, Department of Linguistics, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), and President, Linguistic Society of India, delivered the inaugural address as Chief Guest at a short-term online course on “Indian Knowledge System in Linguistics and Literature”, organised by the Department of Linguistics, Dr. H.S. Gour University, Sagar.

Prof. Warsi highlighted the diverse intellectual traditions comprising the Indian Knowledge System, encompassing linguistics, literature, philosophy, mathematics, medicine, astronomy, performing arts and other fields. He emphasised that these traditions developed as interconnected ways of producing, preserving, transmitting and interpreting knowledge rather than as isolated disciplines.

Discussing the significance of Indian languages, he said they preserve centuries of knowledge and intellectual traditions and should therefore be viewed not merely as means of communication but also as repositories of knowledge diversity and plurality.

Prof. Warsi also discussed the Sruti and Smrti traditions and their role in the preservation and transmission of knowledge, particularly through oral traditions, pronunciation, recitation and memorisation. Linking linguistic and literary thought, he referred to the contributions of Sikṣā, Pāṇini, Bhartrhari, Vakrokti, Dhvani, Rasa and Alaṅkāra in understanding sound, grammatical structure, meaning, expression and aesthetic experience.

AMU JNMC Resident Felicitated for Excellence in National Orthopaedic Academic Challenge

ALIGARH, August 20:Dr.RumanAkhtar, Junior Resident (JR-III), Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), was felicitated for his outstanding performance in OrthoQuest 3.0, a national-level postgraduate orthopaedic academic challenge.

The felicitation took place during Orthopaedic Academy for Scientific Innovation and Specialization(OASIS 5.0), held in Jaipur, where Dr. Johannes F. Plate, Director of Adult Reconstruction Research, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pennsylvania, USA, presented the honour on behalf of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).

AMU Training and Placement Office Organises Career Guidance Session for MPH Students

ALIGARH, August 20: The Department of Community Medicine, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a placement guidance meeting for students of the Master of Public Health (MPH) programme on August 18 at the department’s Seminar Hall, focusing on career opportunities and the recruitment landscape in the public health sector.

Mr. Saad Hameed, Training and Placement Officer (TPO), AMU, interacted with the students and provided guidance on career pathways, placement opportunities, recruitment procedures, job applications and interview preparation. The session was held in the presence of Prof. Uzma Eram, Chairperson, Department of Community Medicine; Prof. Saira Mehnaz, MPH Course Director; and Dr. Ali Jafar Abedi, MPH Course Coordinator.

Mr. Hameed emphasised the importance of developing professional competencies, maintaining an updated curriculum vitae and preparing for the expectations of prospective employers. He also highlighted career avenues for MPH graduates in government health programmes, non-governmental organisations, development agencies, public health and research institutions, healthcare organisations and allied sectors.

The interaction provided students an opportunity to clarify their queries and gain a better understanding of the transition from academic training to professional employment.

Department of Fine Arts Celebrates World Photography Day 2026

ALIGARH, August 19: The Department of Fine Arts, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), celebrated World Photography Day 2026 with a photography competition and exhibition honouring the legacy of legendary photojournalist Raghu Rai.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. Seema Javed, former Chairperson. Chairman, Department of Fine Arts, Dr. Abid Hadi, along with Dr. Dastgir Alam, Dr. Jamil Ahmad, Dr. Mohammad Kaif Farshori and other faculty members, witnessed the showcase of creative works by students.

In the competition, Mr. Saqib Parvez, Department of Geography, secured the first prize, while Mr. Tanzeel, Department of Fine Arts, and Ms. Saima Khanam, Fine Arts Section, Women’s College, secured the second and third positions, respectively.

The exhibition provided students a platform to capture moments and communicate stories through photography, promoting visual creativity among the participants.

AMU Chinese Language Students Record Academic and Global Achievements

Aligarh, August 19: Chinese language students of the Department of Foreign Languages, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), have brought distinction to the University through a remarkable series of academic and international achievements during the academic session 2025–26.

Six students successfully cleared the HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test), with Noman Khan, A***n Ansari, Sauban Ansari, Vanshika Rani and Mamshad Alam qualifying at HSK Level 4, while Tasmiya Noor cleared HSK Level 3.

Further strengthening the department’s international academic profile, eight students secured fully funded, one-year scholarships to study in China. The recipients are Anas Ekram (Zhejiang University), Azib Khan (Xiamen University), Azim Sheikh (East China Normal University), Md Aminul Hasan SK (Zhejiang University), Mamshad Alam (Zhejiang University), Tanveer Ahmad (Xiamen University), Noman Khan (East China Normal University) and Md Saeed Azhar (Beijing Language and Culture University).

Adding another prestigious global achievement, Yahya Khan was selected for the Yenching Global Symposium (YGS) organised by the Yenching Academy of Peking University, Beijing. He was among more than 90 delegates chosen worldwide through a highly competitive selection process involving nearly 6,000 applicants.

Congratulating the students, Prof. Aftab Alam, Chairperson, Department of Foreign Languages and Dean, Faculty of International Studies, said the achievements reflect the quality of education, mentoring and international opportunities available at AMU.

AMU Department of Anaesthesia Organises Slogan-Writing Competition on Safe Anaesthesia

ALIGARH, August 19: The Department of Anaesthesia, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a slogan-writing competition on the theme “One Nation, One Mission: Safe Anaesthesia for Every Patient” as part of its Independence Day celebrations, highlighting the importance of patient safety and the role of anaesthesia in strengthening the healthcare system.

Dr Dhrashti Bhardwaj secured the first position, followed by Dr Sabahat Tazeen and Dr Nazish in the second and third positions, respectively. The prizes were presented by Dr Shahna Ali, who appreciated the participants for promoting awareness about safe anaesthetic practices and their contribution to patient welfare.

The entries were evaluated by Prof. Abu Nadeem and Prof. Obaid Siddiqui. Prof. Hammad Usmani, Chairman, Department of Anaesthesia, emphasised the importance of safety, teamwork and continuous learning in anaesthesia practice.

The programme was organised and conducted by Dr Nazia Tauheed, Dr Ambar Khan and Dr Adil Rasool.

AMU Department of Social Work Secures 12th Rank Nationally in Outlook-ICARE Rankings 2026

Aligarh, August 19: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has added another significant achievement to its growing record of academic excellence and societal impact, with the Department of Social Work securing 12th rank nationally among India’s Top 35 Social Work Institutes in the prestigious Outlook-ICARE Rankings 2026.

The recognition reflects AMU’s sustained commitment to advancing education, research, and community engagement while reaffirming the university's broader mission of using knowledge and academic expertise to serve society and contribute to the welfare of humankind.

The annual Outlook-ICARE assessment evaluates institutions on key parameters, including academic and research excellence, diversity and outreach, governance, infrastructure, and industry interface. AMU’s Department of Social Work performed strongly across these parameters, underscoring its emphasis on contemporary social work education, field-based learning, grassroots research, professional training, and strong placement outcomes.
