Aligarh Muslim University - Malappuram Centre Unofficial Aligarh Muslim University was established by the great social reformer, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. The AMU - MC has recently celebrated its 2nd anniversary.

Set in a 343 acre campus on a beautiful hillock at Chelamala (about 10 km away from Perinthalmanna) in the Malappuram district of Kerala, AMU - Malappuram Centre would be giving a much required fillip to the educational scenario in the state. It was established as the Mohammedan Anglo Oriental College (MAO College), in 1875. In 1920, the College was converted into a full fledged University by an a

ct of Parliament. Today,the Aligarh Muslim University is the 5th best University in the Country. The nation wide expansion of AMU in the form of establishment of centres in Kerala and West Bengal is a physical manifestation of the dream of the great founder. This expansion drive of AMU has been hailed by the national media as the "RELAUNCH OF THE ALIGARH MOVEMENT". The campuses have been established under Section 12(2) of the AMU Act 1981. The establishment of the AMU campuses would pave the way for an Educational Renaissance among the people of the respective regions. These campuses are envisioned to become separate universities when AMU would be celebrating its centenary celebrations in 2020. It has a total strength of 300 students, with 2 departments, namely the Department of Business Administration and the Department of Law. Paper Presentation Competition Marks Day Two of ‘Literati’ 2026 at AMU Women’s College

ALIGARH, April 25: The second day of the three-day literary festival “Literati’2026,” organised by the Women’s College Literary Society (WCLS), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), featured a Paper Presentation Competition, providing students a platform to present their research and ideas.

The competition was judged by Prof. Nazia Hasan, Department of English, and Dr.Shazia Farooqui Fazli, Department of Sociology, who evaluated participants on content, presentation and overall performance. The session was anchored by Ms. Madeeha Owais.

Students from diverse academic backgrounds presented papers on themes spanning literature, cinema, law and science. The presentations explored a range of contemporary and interdisciplinary issues, reflecting strong academic engagement and critical thinking.

Addressing the participants, Prof. Nazia Hasan appreciated the quality of presentations and congratulated the society for organising the event, while Dr.Shazia Farooqui Fazli shared her association with the institution and encouraged students to utilise such platforms for intellectual growth.

The guests were felicitated by Dr.Shagufta Niyaz and Dr. Sadaf Fareed. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Rabab Husain, marking another successful session of the festival.

AMU Malappuram Centre Hosts Food Fest ‘Zayeqa India Ka’

ALIGARH, April 25: The Literary and Cultural Club of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Centre, Malappuram, Kerala, organised its annual food fest “Zayeqa India Ka” with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty and local residents.

The event was inaugurated by businessman Mr. Sidan Syed in the presence of Prof. M. Shahul Hameed, Director, AMU Malappuram Centre, who highlighted the importance of cultural engagement alongside academics.

The fest showcased a variety of regional cuisines from across India, reflecting the country’s rich culinary diversity. Students actively participated in cooking and food preparation activities, promoting creativity, teamwork and cultural exchange.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Firoz Ahmad, Convener, along with faculty members and student volunteers, contributing to the successful organisation of the event.

Anti-Tobacco Awareness Programme Held at AMU Girls’ School

ALIGARH, April 25: An Anti-Tobacco Awareness Programme was organised at AMU Girls’ School as part of the Tobacco-Free School Campaign, with the objective of educating students about the harmful effects of to***co and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

The programme was attended by Prof. Neha Agrawal, Chairperson, Department of Public Health Dentistry, and Dr. Pramod Kumar Yadav, Assistant Professor, along with their team members Dr.Hridya J and Dr. Tuba Imam.

An informative session highlighted the physical, social and psychological risks associated with to***co use. This was followed by an oath-taking ceremony in which students pledged to stay away from to***co and promote a healthy, to***co-free environment.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Ms. Alka Agarwal, Officiating Principal. Faculty members including Ms. Arshi Zafar Khan, Dr. Waseem Raza, Ms. Huma Mukhtar and Ms. Bushra Kirmani contributed to the organisation of the event.

To reinforce the message, activities such as nukkadnatak, slogan writing and poster-making competitions were also organised, providing students a creative platform to express awareness about to***co-related hazards.

The programme was coordinated by Parisa (Class XII Humanities) and concluded with a positive response from students, reaffirming the school’s commitment to a to***co-free environment.

Spectacle of Skill and Tradition: AMU Hosts 136th Annual Horse Show ‘Equestria 2026’

ALIGARH, April 25: The Riding Club of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), under the aegis of the University Games Committee, organised its 136th Annual Horse Show “Equestria 2026” at the University Athletics Ground, drawing large participation and enthusiasm from spectators.

More than 55 riders showcased their equestrian skills in a variety of events, reflecting remarkable coordination, agility and discipline.

Mr. Nadeem Ahmad, Deputy Labour Commissioner, Aligarh, was the Chief Guest, while Prof. M. Mohsin Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Prof. Mohammad Naved Khan, Proctor attended as Guests of Honour. Special guests included Prof. Wasif Mohammad Ali and Dr. Mohd Yunus Khan, former Presidents of the Riding Club.

Among the winners, Abdullah Rais secured first position in Individual Lance Tent Pe***ng, while Mutaiyab won Individual Sword Tent Pe***ng. Wadood emerged victorious in Show Jumping.

In other events, Abdullah won Junior Individual Lance Tent Pe***ng (Boys), while Aiman won Junior Individual Lance Tent Pe***ng (Girls). Irtiqa secured first place in both Musical Chair (Girls) and Pole Bending (Girls), and Arbaz Rashid won Pole Bending (Boys). Hania clinched the top position in Carrot Cutting, while Mubashshir won the Musical Ride event.

Rayyan secured first position in Musical Chair (Boys). The Team Indian File event was won by Hassan, Tuaha, Mutaiyab and Wadood. In Team Lance Tent Pe***ng, the winning team comprised Ammar, Mubashshir, Abdullah Rais and Abdullah.

Huzaifa won Boys Hacks, while Amaniya secured first position in Girls Hacks. Ali Mujtaba secured first place in Mount and Dismount. The Joker Prize was awarded to Imran.

The event was organised under the supervision of Prof. Yusuf Uzzaman Khan, Secretary, University Games Committee, along with Dr. Mohd Sarfaraz Alam, President, M.U Riding Club. Mr. Imran Khan, Coach, and Mr. Mohammad Hassan Arif, Captain of the Riding Club, coordinated the programme.

The event was conducted by Arbaz Rashid, Hania Khan, Arusha Munawwar and Abdullah Mujtaba.

The jury included Mr. Asad Yar Khan and Dr. Mohd. Yunus Khan.

AMU Student Named Captain of UP Skating Team for National Championship

ALIGARH, April 24: Nabeela Khan, a second-year B.Sc. Biochemistry student of Women’s College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed Captain of the Uttar Pradesh skating team for the Indiaskate National Championship to be held in Chandigarh from April 23 to 28, 2026.

Nabeela’s selection follows an impressive performance record, including a gold medal at the Federation Cup and five medals at the national level, reflecting her consistent excellence in the sport. With these achievements, she has also become eligible for the Team India trials.

Ashfia Khan, a second-year B.Sc. Psychology student of Women’s College, has also been selected as a member of the Uttar Pradesh team.

The achievement brings pride to the university and highlights the sporting talent of its students.

AMU NSS Concludes Road Safety Week Campaign with Innovative Outreach

ALIGARH, April 24: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) concluded its Road Safety Week Campaign with an awareness programme at Medical Gate (Gulistan-e-Syed), promoting safe commuting practices.

Dr. Kaiser Alam and Dr. Mehdi Hasan attended the concluding programme as Chief Guests. The event was presided over by Acting Programme Coordinator Dr. Abdul Jabbar, while Mr. Md Imran Khan coordinated the activities.

A distinctive highlight of the concluding day was an innovative initiative by NSS volunteers, who garlanded individuals wearing helmets to encourage safe behaviour and reinforce adherence to traffic rules.

Volunteers also sensitised the public about road safety norms, including the importance of helmet use and responsible driving practices. The guests appreciated the initiative, noting its effectiveness in raising awareness.

The campaign witnessed active participation of NSS volunteers and Programme Officers, including Dr. Aftab Ahmed Ansari, Dr. Mohd Arsalan and Mr. Imran Zeb Khan.

The week-long campaign was conducted at various locations across the university campus, serving as both a practical learning experience for students and a meaningful step towards promoting road safety awareness in society.

AMU Student Authors Book on Seerah, Released by Pro Vice-Chancellor

ALIGARH, April 24: A book titled Mutahharul Janaan (SallallahuAlaihiWasallam)Purified Soul authored by Hiba Fatima, a Class IX student of AMU ABK High School (Girls), was released by Prof. Mohsin Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Prof. Mohsin Khan appreciated the young author’s initiative and dedication, noting that such efforts reflect creativity, intellectual curiosity and a strong value-based orientation among students.

The programme was attended by Prof. Swaleha Jamal, Assistant Director, Directorate of School Education; Dr. Saba Hasan, Headmistress, ABK High School (Girls); Mr. Shamim Uddin, Mr. Mohd Jameel and Mr. Mohd Azam Husain, teachers of ABK Schools, and Mr. Abdul Majeed, Senior P.S. to the Dean, Faculty of Arts.

The book presents teachings from the life of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), addressing contemporary social issues with a focus on guidance rooted in Islamic principles. It also includes around 1,000 questions on Seerah, making it a useful educational resource.

A special acknowledgement was made of Mr. Mohd Jameel, father of the author, for his guidance and encouragement in nurturing the student’s academic and creative pursuits.

Lecture Organized on Maternal and Child Nutrition Under PoshanPakhwada Programmeat AMU

ALIGARH, April 24: The National Service Scheme (NSS), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with the Department of Amraze Jild wa Zohrawiya, Faculty of Unani Medicine, organised a programme under PoshanPakhwada, focusing on the importance of nutrition in public health, particularly maternal and child well-being.

Dr. Mariyam Faruqi, Assistant Professor, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, JNMC, delivered the keynote address, emphasising that proper nutrition during pregnancy and lactation is crucial for healthy birth outcomes and long-term child development. She highlighted the need for essential nutrients and greater awareness to address challenges related to maternal health.
The programme was presided over by Prof. Shagufta Aleem, former Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, who stressed the importance of sustained awareness initiatives to combat malnutrition. Prof. F.S. Sherani also spoke on the significance of balanced diets and preventive healthcare.

Earlier, Prof. Mohd. Mohsin, Chairman of the Department, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary efforts in promoting health awareness. The programme was convened by Dr.Nawalur Rehman Khan.

Prof. Zamir Ahmad proposed a vote of thanks. The event witnessed active participation from faculty members, NSS volunteers and students of Unani Medicine.

ABK High School (Girls), AMU Marks Earth Day with Awareness Activities

ALIGARH, April 24: AMU ABK High School (Girls), Primary Section, observed Earth Day with a special assembly aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainable living among students.

The programme featured speeches by students on pressing environmental issues and the need for collective action, along with a quiz to enhance awareness in an engaging manner. Students also recited poems conveying messages on environmental protection and ecological balance.

As part of the celebration, Vice Principal Dr. Saba Hasan, along with the teaching staff, planted saplings in the school premises, symbolising the importance of greenery and encouraging students to adopt eco-friendly practices.

AMU Professor Launches Academic Website to Showcase His Scholarly Work

ALIGARH, April 24: Prof. Towqueer Alam Falahi of the Department of Sunni Theology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has launched his academic and personal website, creating a dedicated digital platform to make his scholarly contributions accessible to a wider audience.

The website offers comprehensive access to his academic work, including books, research publications, and video lectures, and is aimed at promoting the dissemination of knowledge, academic engagement, and interaction with students and researchers in the field of Islamic studies.

The website was formally inaugurated by former Vice-Chancellor of AMU, Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, who appreciated the initiative and described it as a valuable step towards strengthening academic outreach and preserving scholarly contributions in the digital domain.

Prof. Falahi has served in several key academic and administrative roles at AMU, including Chairman of the Departments of Sunni Theology and Shia Theology, and Dean, Faculty of Theology. He has authored more than 30 books and over 200 research papers. He is currently serving as Editor of the monthly journals Tahzeeb-ul-Akhlaq and Nishant, and the quarterly journal Fikr-o-Nazar.

AMU Doctors Conduct Oral Health Camp at Sultan Jahan School as Part of an Outreach Activity

ALIGARH, April 24: The Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Dr. Z.A. Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a School Oral Health Awareness and Dental Check-up Camp at Sultan Jahan School.

A team comprising Dr. Saima Yunus Khan, Dr. Imam Azam, Dr. Mohammad Atif, Dr. Akhtar Ali, Dr.Sufain, Dr. Manish Kumar Singh and Dr. Akshat Sharma conducted the camp, focusing on promoting oral hygiene awareness among school children.

Students from UKG to Class V participated in the programme, where they were educated about proper oral hygiene practices, healthy dietary habits and preventive dental care. Basic dental examinations were also carried out, and guidance was provided to students and teachers.

The school authorities appreciated the initiative and extended full cooperation.
