2012 നവംബർ 1 ന് തുഞ്ചത്തെഴുത്തച്ഛൻ മലയാളസർവകലാശാല തിരൂരിൽ സ്ഥാപിതമായി. 2013 ഏപ്രിൽ മാസത്തിൽ തുഞ്ചത്തെഴുത്തച്ഛൻ മലയാളസർവകലാശാല ബിൽ നിയമസഭ അംഗീകരിച്ചു. 2013-14 അദ്ധ്യയന വർഷത്തിൽ തന്നെ ആദ്യ കോഴ്സുകൾ ആരംഭിച്ചു.

മലയാളസർവകലാശാലയിൽ ബിരുദാനന്തരബിരുദ പഠനം മാത്രമേ ഉള്ളൂ. സർവകലാശാലയുടെ കീഴിൽ മറ്റു കോളേജുകളോ ഉപകേന്ദ്രങ്ങളോ ഇല്ല. ഉയർന്ന നിലവാരമുള്ള സമഗ്രമായ പാഠ്യപദ്ധതിയും, മികച്ച അധ്യാപകരും മികവിനോടുള്ള

പ്രതിബദ്ധതയുമാണ് മലയാളസർവകലാശാലയുടെ സവിശേഷതകൾ. ഭരണപരമായ കാര്യക്ഷമതയും ആധുനിക സാങ്കേതിക വിദ്യകളുടെ സമുചിതമായ ഉപയോഗവും വഴി ഒരു പുതിയ നിർവഹണ സംസ്കാരം ഈ സർവകലാശാലയെ വ്യത്യസ്തമാക്കും.

മലയാളം ശ്രേഷ്ഠഭാഷയായി പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടത്‌ നമ്മുടെ ഭാഷാഭിമാനം പ്രോജ്ജ്വലമാക്കാൻ പ്രേരകമായി. ശ്രേഷ്ഠമായ ഈ ഭാഷയുടേയും സാഹിത്യത്തിന്റേയും പഠനവും ഗവേഷണവും വ്യാപനവുമാണ്‌ വിശാലലക്ഷ്യം.
