Fr Joy Kachappilly Installed as Rector of Don Bosco Technical School, Maligaon

Maligaon, 11 May 2026 — In a brief yet meaningful ceremony held during the community’s evening prayer, Rev. Fr Sebastian Kuricheal, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Mary Help of Christians, Guwahati, officially installed Fr Joy Kachappilly as the new Rector of Don Bosco Technical School, Maligaon.

The ceremony began at 7.00 pm with the community gathering for evening prayer. Addressing those present, Fr Sebastian reflected on the significance of the Rector’s role in the community. Drawing on the Gospel passage from Mark 10:42–45, he spoke of the call to servant leadership — reminding the community that, in the Salesian tradition, leadership is above all a ministry of service, exercised for the good of every member.

As an expression of his readiness to assume this responsibility, Fr Joy made the Profession of Faith and signed the requisite documents in the presence of the assembly. Also present were Fr Jayaprakash, the Provincial Economer, and community members Fr Barnabas Mardi and Fr Jecky Sangma.

Following the ceremony, the hostel students gave the Provincial and the Economer a warm welcome with songs and a traditional Phoolan gamocha, and Fr Joy was felicitated on the occasion. Speaking to the students, Fr Provincial encouraged them to make full use of the opportunities and facilities at the institute to develop their skills and equip themselves to contribute meaningfully to their families and society.

In his response, Fr Joy expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Fr Provincial for the trust placed in him, and thanked all those present for their support and goodwill towards the Institute and its mission.

DBTS Maligaon Celebrates the Feast of St Joseph the Worker

Maligaon, 1 May 2026 — Don Bosco Technical School (DBTS), Maligaon, marked May Day, the Feast of St Joseph the Worker, with a day of prayer, community celebrations, and joyful fellowship. The occasion, observed as Workers’ Day at the institute, brought together students, teachers, staff, and parishioners in a spirit of gratitude for the gift of work.

The celebration began with Holy Eucharist at 10.30 am, presided over by Fr Jeremias Tirkey of Snehalaya. The congregation comprised students, staff, teachers, and parishioners from the local community, who joined the institution’s family for the occasion. Fr Charles Deepn Lakra, Rector of the Provincial House, delivered the homily. Drawing inspiration from the life of St Joseph, the carpenter of Nazareth, Fr Charles reflected on the inherent dignity of labour and the call for every worker to fulfil their specific duties for the wellbeing of society. His words resonated deeply with an audience whose daily lives are shaped by technical education and skilled work.

After the Mass, the community gathered for the Easter blessing of the entire DBTS complex. The faithful walked in solemn procession, singing hymns and praying the Holy Rosary as they moved through the campus. All the Fathers participated in blessing the various buildings on campus, invoking God’s grace upon the work and mission carried out within their walls.

In the days preceding the feast, the student community had taken part in a lively sports tournament, with competitions in basketball, volleyball, caroms, chess, and table tennis. Prizes for the winners were distributed just before lunch, recognising the sporting spirit of the young men of DBTS.

Tea and snacks were served after the blessing, creating a warm moment of community bonding. The day’s celebrations concluded with a sumptuous lunch at 1.00 pm, bringing the entire community together around the table, a fitting close to a day that celebrated both the spirituality of work and the joy of fraternal communion.

The feast was also a heartfelt occasion to express gratitude to all who contribute to the life and mission of DBTS Maligaon — in particular, those who labour daily in the workshops. Their dedicated and selfless service, often quiet and unsung, is the backbone of the institution, and the celebration was a fitting moment to honour and acknowledge their invaluable contribution.
