Department of Civil Engineering has organized a 5 day Workshop on “Total Station and DGPS" during 22 March to 26 March 2021 for the students of Diploma and B Tech of Civil Engineering. Total 30 Students have participated in this workshop, among them 7
students belonging to other institutes like ATC Indore, GT. Polytechnic Jaora, SYSITS Ratlam and Govt. ITI, Mandsaur.
Er. Saurabh Jain, Managing Director of JP Construction & JP survey
academy, Bhopal with his assistant was the resource person. Er. Jain took 2 hour session in the starting of the workshop in which he explained the importance and scope of the advanced and latest instruments like Laser Scanners, DGPS, GNSS Systems, Robotic Total Stations, Mobile Sensor Platforms, Smart Antennas, Receivers, Controllers, Accessories and Manual Total Stations etc. During workshop students performed various tasks on the field with two Total Stations & one DGPS in two shifts of 5 days. In the second half of the first day students have learned about the centering & leveling of Total Station. Second day students generate a job in TS, take various points on the field for survey and find northing, easting, zenith, sloping distance, horizontal and vertical angle. Third day they learned about the height, area and volume measurement of any object on the field. Fourth day they performed all the previous activity through DGPS instead of TS. Fifth day they performed demarcation with RTK method, repeated all the surveying activity and practiced the whole day. Mr. Jain also explained about the career opportunities in the field of advanced surveying. He also gives the opportunity for our students to work with his company after completion of their course. Previously two of our diploma students were placed in their company through the department. The purpose of organizing this workshop was to make the students industry ready in the field of advanced surveying. Total Station and DGPS are also part of the curriculum. This workshop was proved fruitful for the students because they learned to perform important various tasks of surveying by Total Station and DGPS. Nowadays for the surveying work the Total Station and DGPS machine are preferred by industries and the Revenue department for its preciseness and less time consuming quality. So that with the help of this kind of workshops the students can find more opportunity to nurture their future aspects.

Workshop Title: Foam concrete: An innovative Building Material
Resource person/agency and affiliation:
Dr. Sritam Swapnadarshi Sahu (PhD IIT Guwahati)
Foam concrete is basically a lightweight concrete where density is reduced by using surfactants
or foaming agents. Reducing the density of concrete facilitates several advantages like better
thermal insulation, save material and transportation costs, etc. In this regard, Department of Civil
Engineering conducted a workshop program for Diploma VI and B.Tech IV Sem Students on, 15th
February 2021. The objective of the workshop was to perceive a new building material which can
be an alternative to the existing bricks and AAC (Autoclave Aerated Concrete) blocks.

Students learned a new innovate building material (Foam concrete), its advantages over the
existing building materials.
2. Students acquired knowledge on the ingredients, the manufacturing process and various
problems associated while making foam concrete.
3. Students associated with the latest technological advancement with respect to building
materials.

Department of Civil Engineering has organized a Jenga competition for first year students of B.
Tech (CE & ME) on 06.02.21 Saturday.
Jenga is a game of physical skill created by British board game designer and author Leslie Scott,
and currently marketed by Hasbro. Players takes turns removing one block at a time from a tower
constructed of 54 blocks. Each block removed is then placed on top of the tower, creating a
progressively taller and more unstable structure. Students of Civil and Mechanical engineering
took part in this activity and enjoyed this activity with learning.

A Workshop on "Layout of a Building" has been conducted for B.Tech. and Diploma students. It establishes the location points for site boundaries, foundations, columns, center-lines of walls and other necessary structural parts. The position and orientation of the structure is generally described in architect's or engineer's drawings and defining precisely how the layout should be arranged.
Through this workshop, the students learnt about the skills of the Layout. Some important factors in site layout include: site access, utility locations, soil conditions, safety and health considerations, temporary services, and the list goes on.
The workshop is carried out by - Mr. Tousif Abbasi (Asst. Prof.)

A workshop on "Field Density of Soil" is conducted for B. Tech. and Diploma students. The density of soil subjected to change when disturbed upon remolding, Hence it is required to perform a field test.
Students performed sand calibration to find the density of sand to be used in the test.
Sample extraction is carried out and care to be taken during the same is discussed.
Test such as Sand replacement and core cutter test is performed by the students and analysis is performed on the quality of the soil.

The workshop is carried out by Mr. Abhishek Soni, Mr. Piyush Paliwal, and geotechnical engineering course curriculum.
