We are happy to share that Udayavani Newspaper featured our Immunization Week program conducted at Manila Village, Dakshina Kannada.
The program was carried out with the support of the Panchayat Development Officer, Panchayat Secretary, and Medical Officer. It was attended by the CHO, PDCO, ASHA workers, and 25 mothers of children under 5 years.
The session was conducted by Master of Public Health (MPH) first-year students, who presented an engaging play on myths and facts about vaccination, followed by an interactive quiz on immunization. They also explained the National Immunization Schedule and interacted with mothers to understand their experiences, challenges, and needs.
A meaningful step towards strengthening community awareness on immunization.

The Department of Public Health, organized a session on “Multisectoral Approach to Early Childhood Care and Development” on 29 November 2025 at the Medical Education Unit, KSHEMA Academic Block, Deralakatte.
The session was led by Manish Kumar, National Trainer for Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices under the MAA Programme of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
During the interaction, Mr. Manish spoke with students about why early childhood development matters, the importance of a mother’s care, nutrition, and overall health, and how these factors shape a child’s future. He also explained what can be done at different levels, be it individual, community, State or Nation and shared insights on the current National programs working in this area.
The discussion encouraged students to think about early childhood beyond textbooks and understand how deeply it affects families and communities.

As part of their MPH curriculum, our First Year MPH scholars visited Riya Foundation’s Riya Hope Farm, a residential lifetime care home and vocational training center for persons with intellectual disabilities.
The home currently supports 37 residents, cared for through donations from kind-hearted individuals. The team at Riya Foundation emphasized the importance of community support to continue meeting their needs.
The beneficiaries receive free consultation, counselling, and treatment every month from Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital, through the continued support of Nitte (Deemed to be University).
This visit helped our students understand the dedicated efforts involved in running such an organization and the compassion required to care for individuals with long-term health challenges.
