The Department of E&C, MIT Manipal and IEEE SBM had organized
an Alumni-Industry Guest Talk by Ambika Sharma (Head of AI, Google USA) on the theme "Limitless Learners: Students Empowering Humanity Through AI" on 5th September 2024 from 11 am to 12 noon at Library Auditorium, MIT Manipal.

The talk was met with enthusiastic anticipation, evident from the 270 registrations received prior to the event. The auditorium saw a turnout of 140 attendees, including students, faculty, and staff, all eager to gain insights from one of the industry’s leading AI specialists. The session began with a welcome address by Dr. Pallavi R Mane, Head of the Department of E&C, who introduced Ms. Ambika Sharma and highlighted her remarkable journey from MIT Manipal to her current role as a Generative AI Specialist at Google, USA.
Ambika’s talk focused on generative AI, an area where she has significant expertise. She began by explaining the fundamentals of generative AI, emphasizing its transformative potential in various industries, including healthcare, finance, and entertainment. She illustrated how generative AI models, such as GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer), are capable of creating content—ranging from text and images to music and video—that mimics human creativity.

Dr. Mruthyunjaya H S, Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, MIT Manipal retired from service on 29th June 2024.

Department of ECE organized a farewell function on 28th July 2024, at ECE Seminar Hall to celebrate 34 years of successful professional journey of Dr.Mruthyunjaya H S . The program was graced by Cdr. (Dr.) Anil Rana, Director MIT and Joint Director Dr. Somashekara Bhat.
Dr. Mruthyunjaya H. S., has been a dedicated member of our department since 1990, contributing immensely to our academic and research endeavors. The Director expressed gratitude for the long tenure of 34 years he has served the department and MIT. During his tenure, Prof. Mruthyunjaya has been a mentor and guide to many, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, MIT Manipal, organized an Industry Expert Guest talk “Technological Advancements in Rail Signaling Systems”on 9th January 2024, featuring Mr. Devarajan Srinivasan, professional Charted Engineer working for Transport Department New South Wales, Australia.
Mr. Devarajan Srinivasan is a chartered Engineer and a full-time member of Prestigious Engineers Australia. He has more than 17 years of experience in the rail industry and working in various signaling and Train Control Systems both nationally and internationally. He is working in ATP (Automatic Train Protection System) which is one of the most advanced and sophisticated signaling systems for Trains. He specializes in ETCS (European Rail Control System). ETCS is the signalling and control component of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS).
The event, tailored for students, aimed to provide valuable insights into the cutting-edge developments in rail signaling technology and the transformative impact of advanced systems on the transportation sector. The speaker commenced the talk with a comprehensive introduction to Automatic Train Protection Systems and the European Rail Control System. This foundational knowledge laid the groundwork for attendees to grasp the significance of these systems in ensuring the safety and efficiency of rail networks.

Dr. Anish Bekal, Entrepreneur, Trachealth technologies (E-LAGORI), delivered a Guest Talk on the topic “Recent trends and innovation in the electronics product development process”, on 5th January 2024 at E&C seminar hall, MIT Manipal. Dr. Anish Bekal is an Alumnus of the Department of E&C.
After receiving his B.E. in Electronics and Communication from MIT Manipal in 2004, Dr. Anish Bekal went on to pursue his Ph.D. from IIT Madras. He started his career with ISRO and worked on several prestigious projects like Cartosat 2, SRE and Chandrayaan 1 missions. At General Electric, he worked on tunable diode laser spectroscopy and research in detecting gas emission using spectroscopy based methods. He was also a visiting researcher at Stanford University. He continued this work in Forbes Marshall, on Quantum cascade laser based technologies. Currently he runs his own startup in embedded systems domain with a Product called E-LAGORi, which is incubated at IISc and Derbi. He has over 16 years of research experience in high technology areas with a demonstrated history of working in the research industry. He has 8 granted US and Indian patents and 20 journal/conference papers to his credit.
