The Centre for Intercultural Studies and Dialogue (CISD) at MAHE has launched a course titled ‘Discerning India: Living Cultures of Tulunadu – Level 1’

Discerning India: Living Cultures of Tulunadu – Level 1 is a self-paced online course offered by the Centre for Intercultural Studies and Dialogue, MAHE (CISD), Manipal Academy of Higher Education that introduces the participants to the essence of the region. It attempts to look at what makes the region surrounding Manipal, the districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada- known as Tulunadu, a microcosm of India.

The Level 1 Course comprises the following Units:

Theatre and Performance: Yakshagana
Community and Sports: Kambala
Worship Traditions: Bhutaradhane; Nagaradhane

The official launch of the course 'Discerning India: Living Cultures of Tulunadu - Level 1' will take place on 18 August (Thursday) in front of EDU building MAHE at 4.00 pm. In keeping with the spirit of the course, the event will be marked by a special performance of "Tiger Dance (Pili Vesha) by a local troupe.

Discerning India: Living Cultures of Tulunadu - Level 1 is a self-paced online course offered by Centre for Intercultural Studies and Dialogue, MAHE that introduces the participants to the essence of the region. It attempts to look at what makes the region surrounding Manipal, the districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada- known as Tulunadu, a microcosm of India. The Level 1 Course comprises the following Units: Theatre and Performance: Yakshagana; Community and Sports: Kambala, Worship Traditions: Bhutaradhane; Nagaradhane.

Nuances of worship traditions, vibrant folk theatres, and syncretic living ways add a distinctive richness to the region. This course introduces the participants to the glimpses of this cultural heritage and leaves them with a desire to delve deeper. This is a two- credit online certificate course offered by MAHE. As part of the Cultural Evenings of m.i.l.a.p. 2019, Girish Karnad's Rakshasa Tangadi was performed by Ninasam from Heggodu

The brutual and bloody battle between the Bahamani Sultanate and the Vijayanagara empire gave the perfect opportunity for colonialism to swoop in and destroy all that was Indian in the subcontinent. A story of friendship, tyranny, betrayal, and sovereignty, this play drew a perfect end to the 2 day Literary Festival!

2 Credit Certificate Course on Bhagavadgita at Department of Philosophy, MAHE

We are happy to share with you that the Dept of Philosophy would be offering the two-month (two-credit) course on "Bhagavadgita: theorising self and agency" from the next week 24 September onwards for a period of nine weeks (every Tuesday and Wednesday at 6-8 pm at MCES). ₹3000 will be the course fee and it is open for all.

India is a country that revels in it's diversity. This was probably the biggest takeway from the latest hosted by Manipal Centre for European Studies at Manipal Academy of Higher Education serving as an entry point to study the idea of India at a microcosmic level was surely a surreal experience for the delegation of 20 students from Lancaster University!
