The inaugural ceremony of the Three-Day Workshop 'Ping 2.0.2.5 – Digital Transformation (Intelligent Technology and Sustainability) along with Silver jubilee celebration of ICT Department,' was held with great enthusiasm at the Manipal Institute of Technology. Organized by the Department of Information and Communication Technology in collaboration with Dr.T.M.A.Pai Endowment chair. This workshop is an integral part of the annual Ping series, aimed at fostering knowledge exchange and innovation in the field of ICT. The event commenced with a warm welcome by the Master of Ceremony, Ms. Ramyashree, Assistant Professor in the Department of ICT, who set the tone for the gathering. A floral tribute was paid to the visionary founder of the institution, Dr. TMA Pai, in acknowledgment of his invaluable contributions to education. The distinguished guests were then ceremoniously escorted to the dais, reflecting the high regard for their presence. The event was graced by Chief Guest, Mrs. Sandhya Varanasi, VP EM CTO, Schneider Electric; Guests of Honour, Mr. Vivek Kumar Rai, Head, Strategic Business, HPC & AI, NVIDIA, and Dr. P. Giridhar Kini, Registrar, MAHE, Manipal. The ceremony was presided over by Commander (Dr.) Anil Rana, Director, MIT, Manipal, with Dr. Manohara Pai M M, Senior Professor, as the Convener, and Dr. Smitha N Pai, Professor and Head, Department of ICT, as the Department Representative.

The event formally commenced with an invocation by Ms. Pavithra, Research Scholar, Department of ICT, setting a solemn and respectful atmosphere. This was followed by the welcome address by Dr. Smitha N Pai, who emphasized the significance of the workshop and the collaborative efforts that made it possible. Dr. Manohara Pai M M then provided insights into the workshop’s theme and objectives, elaborating on its role in driving digital transformation and sustainability through intelligent technologies. A traditional lamp-lighting ceremony was conducted by the dignitaries, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and the ushering in of knowledge and enlightenment. The official release of the workshop’s souvenir commemorated the event’s significance and acknowledged the contributions of all involved.

The distinguished guests then addressed the gathering. Mr. Vivek Kumar Rai, introduced by Dr. Balachandra, Professor of ICT, shared insights on the role of HPC and AI in digital transformation and sustainable development. The Chief Guest, Mrs. Sandhya Varanasi, introduced by Dr. Radhika M Pai, HOD, Department of Data Science and Computer Applications, spoke about the evolving landscape of intelligent technology and its impact on businesses and industries. Dr. P. Giridhar Kini, introduced by Dr. Santhosha Rao, Additional Professor, Department of ICT, emphasized the importance of innovation in digital sustainability. The felicitation ceremony followed, honoring the esteemed dignitaries, including the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour, and Heads of Departments, for their contributions and support.

The Presidential Address was delivered by Commander (Dr.) Anil Rana, Director, MIT, Manipal, who underscored the importance of research and innovation in ICT and sustainability. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Preetham Kumar, Professor, Department of ICT, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, organizers, faculty members, students, and participants for making the inaugural ceremony a grand success. The ceremony marked the beginning of an insightful three-day journey, with the first technical session commencing by Mr. Vivek Kumar Rai .

The inaugural event set a promising tone for the workshop, paving the way for transformative discussions and collaborations in the field of intelligent technology and sustainability.

The Department of Information and Communication Technology proudly announces that VII Semester B.Tech students, Parva Chowdhury and Aditya Shah from Information Technology, along with Komal Mathur from Computer Science, have secured 1st place at the prestigious CyberAI Cup 2024 organized by the International Cyber Security Data-Mining Society (ICSDS).

CyberAI Cup 2024 featured 699 teams from 522 universities across 109 countries, making this achievement truly commendable. The winners will receive a certificate and a reward of 3,000 NZD (approximately ₹1.5 lakhs).

The Department of Information and Communication Technology hosted the 2nd International Conference on Recent Advances in Information Technology for Sustainable Development (ICRAIS-2024) on November 6-7. Endorsed by IEEE, the conference was held in a hybrid format, accommodating both virtual and in-person attendees.

The inauguration ceremony on November 6th 2024 at MV Seminar Hall began with a formal welcome by Dr. Manohar Pai M, Senior Professor in the Department of ICT. This was followed by an opening address from the Chief Guest, Dr. S. N. Omkar, Chief Research Scientist at IISc Bengaluru, who discussed the transformative potential of drones in fields such as disaster management, precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, and logistics. Guest of Honor Dr. Vinod V Thomas, Registrar Evaluation at MAHE and Professor in the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, spoke about the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and industry to effectively address global challenges. Commander (Dr.) Anil Rana, Director of MIT, presided over the event, emphasizing MIT’s role as a leader in technology-driven progress that aligns with sustainable development goals. Dr. Vasudeva Acharya, Chair of the IEEE Mangalore Subsection, expressed his enthusiasm for the event and highlighted how the conference themes align with IEEE’s vision of advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. Dr. Balachandra, Professor in the Department of ICT and the conference convener, provided an overview of ICRAIS 2024, detailing the objectives and the diverse range of topics covered, including Distributed Computing, Networking and Communication, Information Security, and Soft Computing. He emphasized the conference's significance in fostering innovative research and collaboration. A memorable moment of the ceremony was the unveiling of the ICRAIS 2024 souvenir, symbolizing the collective efforts of the organizing team. 🌟 We are proud to share that our student team has achieved a remarkable feat! Project PhishTrap, has received a grant of ₹2,00,000 from the YUKTI Innovation Challenge 2023. This recognition is a testament to the innovative spirit and commitment to excellence at the Department of ICT, Manipal Institute of Technology.

Dr. Manohar Pai M M, Senior Professor and TMA Pai Endowment Chair in Intelligent Technologies, Industry 4.0, and Sustainability, from the Department of Information and Communication Technology at MManipal Academy of Higher Education was pivotal in facilitating MAHE's strategic partnership with Schneider Electric.

Dr. Pai has received a grant of Rs. 42.48 lakhs from Schneider Electric, Bangalore, for the project titled "Exploratory research in Industrial Automation and IoT." Dr. Pai has also been awarded another grant of Rs. 67.7 lakhs by Schneider Electric Pvt. Ltd. R&D Center, Bangalore, for a project focused on predicting SOH and RUL, an estimations mode.

Effective from January 25th, 2024, to December 31st, 2026, this collaboration aims to provide vital datasets for an AI project and to oversee and mentor MAHE students involved in the project. Dr. Manohar Pai M M is the primary contact person for MAHE in this transformative endeavor. Faculty and students are welcome to reach out for collaborations and opportunities with Schneider Electric.

On April 2nd, 2024, the Department of Information and Communication Technology hosted a technical talk from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Prof. (Dr.) Gang Li from Deakin University presented on Recent Trends in Machine Learning. Dr. Li engaged the audience with captivating discussions on Open Environment machine learning, emphasizing its significance in driving cutting-edge projects. He also highlighted collaboration opportunities with Deakin University's research initiatives. As a TULIP Lab member, Prof. Li shared insights into open projects and provided a GitHub link for further exploration. The event, attended by over 40 students, concluded with thanks from Dr. Raghavendra Ganiga, faculty member of the Department of I & CT.
