Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal is a name to conjure with not just in India, but the world over. Although it got the deemed university status in 1993, the seeds for its magnificent growth were sown way back in 1953 with the setting up of the flagship Kasturba Medical College on what was then a barren hilltop. From then on, institution after institution was added and facilities kept improving to ensure Manipal Academy of Higher Education emerges the leading higher education provider in the country today, with 4 Branch Campuses in India, 2 in Overseas, 28 professional institutions in medicine, engineering, management, humanities, liberal arts, and social sciences and 554 programmes. MAHE is making a strong headway in research as well. Spread over 600 acres of green expanse, the MAHE is home to over 40,000 students pursuing undergraduate and post graduate programs in diverse subjects. 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐔𝐊–𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

The UK–India Higher Education Roundtable, organised by QS at the House of Lords, London, on 22 September, brought together leading voices from the higher education sector to discuss the future of UK–India academic collaboration.

Around 25 leading UK universities participated in the roundtable, alongside Vice Chancellors from six selected Indian universities, including Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). Dr Sharath K Rao , Vice Chancellor, MAHE, represented the institution at the meeting.

The roundtable, led by Lord Kamalesh Patel and Jessica Turner, Chief Executive Officer, QS, examined the progress and emerging opportunities in UK–India higher education collaboration since the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Discussions focused on strengthening international branch campuses and transnational education, advancing research partnerships, enhancing student and academic mobility, and building pathways for advanced skills and high-quality education. The dialogue also explored the policy and operational challenges that need to be addressed to enable partnerships to scale sustainably.

With the India–UK Vision 2035 and the evolving FTA landscape creating new avenues for collaboration, the roundtable also looked at how institutions can contribute to deeper engagement across education, research, innovation and skills development.

The discussions are expected to contribute towards shared recommendations for policymakers in India and the UK, institutional commitments from universities, and a sector-level representation that QS can take forward with relevant governments.

For MAHE, participation in such platforms reflects its continued engagement with the global higher education ecosystem and its commitment to fostering meaningful international partnerships that create opportunities for students, faculty, research and innovation.

The ‘Living Cultures of Tulunadu’ project of the Centre for Intercultural Studies and Dialogue, MAHE (CISD), has been shortlisted for the prestigious QS Reimagine Education Awards 2026 under the Sustainability Education Literacy category.

Selected from a highly competitive global pool of 2,226 submissions, the project successfully advanced through four rigorous evaluation rounds conducted by 1,634 international higher education and edtech experts.

This recognition celebrates MAHE's efforts to preserve and promote Tulunadu's living cultural heritage through innovative education and community engagement, placing the project among leading educational innovations worldwide.

The shortlisted projects will be showcased before a global audience of educators, innovators, investors, industry leaders, and academic institutions at the QS Reimagine Education Conference and Awards in London, from 6-8 December 2026.

Manipal Academy of Higher Education inaugurated the MAHE National Photography Contest 2026: MeghMalhar Photo Exhibition on 17 September at Dr. TMA Pai Halls, Manipal; marking the 91st birthday of Dr. Ramdas M. Pai, Padma Bhushan Awardee and esteemed Chancellor of MAHE.

The exhibition brought together the prize-winning photographs and 51 other selected photographs from MeghMalhar 2026, offering a glimpse into the diverse perspectives captured by participants from across the country and the MAHE community.

With 1,100+ participants and 3,500+ photographs submitted across the contest, MeghMalhar 2026 became a celebration of photography and visual storytelling. The My MAHE, My Campus theme alone received 600+ entries from the MAHE community.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. H. S. Ballal, Pro Chancellor, and Dr. Sharath K. Rao, Vice Chancellor, along with MAHE leadership.

MAHE Announces Dr TMA Pai Green Campus Excellence Awards at Youth in Social Change Conference

Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), an Institution of Eminence Deemed to be University, announced the establishment of Dr TMA Pai Green Campus Excellence Awards to recognise educational institutions and industries that demonstrate exemplary commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, climate action and responsible campus development.

The announcement was made during the inauguration of the seventh edition of the National Conference on Youth in Social Change, organised by the Volunteer Services Organisation (VSO) of MAHE in Manipal on Thursday. VSO is one of the largest university-led student volunteer organisations in India.

The conference was organised to mark the 91st birthday of Dr Ramdas M. Pai, Padma Bhushan Awardee, Chancellor, MAHE, and to reaffirm commitment to youth engagement, volunteering and social responsibility. Centred on the theme “Skills for Social Change,” the day-long conference convened more than 600 students and young minds, along with volunteers, social changemakers, academics, professionals and organisations, to explore the role of practical skills in volunteering, community engagement and the creation of meaningful social impact.

This year’s edition focused on experiential learning, with the message “This Year at Youth in Social Change, Learn a Skill for Life.” Participants attended shared morning sessions, followed by hands-on, skill-based training sessions of their choice in the afternoon. The format encouraged young people to move beyond awareness and good intentions by developing practical skills they can apply to real-life and community needs.

MAHE unveiled the winning photographs of the MAHE National Photo Contest 2026, “Megh Malhar,” at a special exhibition inaugurated by Dr H. S. Ballal, Pro Chancellor, MAHE, and Dr Sharath K Rao , Vice Chancellor, MAHE, along with the MAHE leadership, at Dr TMA Pai Halls, Manipal.

The exhibition brings together the contest’s most compelling photographs, celebrating the creativity, perspectives, and visual storytelling of photographers from across the country.

Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), an Institution of Eminence Deemed to be University, has announced a new social welfare initiative to construct and donate houses for economically disadvantaged families, whose children study in government Kannada-medium schools across Udupi district. The initiative was launched on 17 September 2026 to mark the 91st birthday of Dr Ramdas M. Pai, the esteemed Chancellor of MAHE.

MAHE has joined hands with Yakshagana Kalaranga to construct 50 affordable homes for economically disadvantaged families of deserving students across Udupi district in next five years.

The project reflects MAHE’s commitment to extending its charitable activities beyond education and to supporting the well-being of deserving members of the community. The initiative will identify eligible beneficiaries based on defined criteria, with priority given to economically weaker families of deserving students. MAHE will oversee the construction of the houses and hand over the completed homes to the selected beneficiaries without any financial burden on them.

Launching the initiative, Dr. Ranjan R. Pai, President of MAHE Trust, reaffirmed MAHE’s commitment to inclusive community development through social impact initiatives. To mark the launch, confirmation letters for house construction were handed over to two families.

As our esteemed Chancellor, Dr. Ramdas M. Pai, Padma Bhushan Awardee, celebrates his 91st birthday, the entire Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) community comes together to honour a life devoted to the transformative power of education.

His foresight and leadership have been instrumental in shaping MAHE’s growth, opening new avenues for learners and nurturing a culture rooted in excellence, service and purpose.
