Let’s put your diagnostic skills to the test with today’s Case Study Saturday! 2 patients arrived in the ED of the same hospital complaining of similar symptoms. Patient #1 was a 16-year-old male with a fever, neck and chest pain. Patient #2 was a 23-year-old female with a fever, neck and hip pain and sore throat.
3 days prior, patient #1 was seen in an Urgent Care Clinic for a fever and sore throat, and was tested for Group A Streptococcus. The test was negative, and he was later sent home with a diagnosis of viral pharyngitis.
Patient #2 was seen 3 and 5 days prior in the ED for a fever and sore throat. No tests were performed, and she was sent home with the same diagnosis as patient #1. What was causing their symptoms? Find out here: https://skyw.io/eig1Qf
