Vidyasagar University, named after one of the most illustrious sons of Bengal as well as one of the doyens of Indian Renaissance, Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, has grown out of a long cultural and educational movement in West Bengal in general and in the undivided district of Midnapore in particular.

Two-Day Workshop on Robotics & Drone Technology at Vidyasagar University 🚁🤖

Midnapore, 24 August 2026: The Computer Centre of Vidyasagar University is organizing a two-day "Robotics and Drone Technology Workshop" on 24-25 August 2026.

The inaugural programme was held at APJ Abdul Kalam Hall. Prof. Dipak Kumar Kar, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, inaugurated the workshop and highlighted the importance of practical learning in advanced technologies. Prof. Dilip Kumar Pratihar, Professor & Head, Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kharagpur delivered the keynote address. Prof. Ajay Mishra, Director, R&D Cell and Mr. Anup Parali, Founder, Robozonix also addressed the gathering. Dr. Jayanta Kishore Nandi, Registrar, proposed vote of thanks.

A unique highlight of the inauguration was hoisting of the National Flag by a drone and showering of floral petals on Swami Vivekananda's statue outside Vivekananda Sabhagriha.

Technical Sessions:
Day 1 - Introduction to Aerodynamics of Drones & UAVs, Drone Parts Assembly and ESC Soldering
Day 2 - Drone Flying Simulation, Flight Controller Calibration & Tuning, Thermal Imaging, Live Telemetry Surveillance, Perimeter Monitoring and Gesture-Controlled Robot making.

Around 60 students, research scholars and teachers from various colleges and universities across the state are participating.

Two-Day Community Outreach Programme by IQAC, Vidyasagar University 🌿

IQAC, Vidyasagar University successfully organised a two-day Community Outreach Programme on 20-21 August 2026 at Belpahari and Gidhni.

A group of faculty members delivered insightful lectures with active participation from students of Classes IX-XII and school teachers.

The sessions focused on:

Employment & Skill Development and Informed Career Planning
Awareness on Prevention of Child Marriage & Environmental Protection
Rural Livelihoods, Traditional Occupations & Local Knowledge

Vidyasagar University Signs MoU with National Library of India 🤝📚

Vidyasagar University, Midnapore and the National Library of India, Kolkata have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 21.08.2026 to formalize long-term collaboration for promotion of student training and quality graduate and postgraduate research in cutting-edge areas.

The MoU was signed at the University campus by Dr. Jayanta Kishore Nandi, Registrar, Vidyasagar University and Dr. Partha Sarathi Das, Library and Information Officer, National Library of India.

Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dipak Kumar Kar said this partnership is a futuristic step towards academic and research excellence. Registrar Dr. Jayanta Kishore Nandi highlighted its aim to enhance professional growth of students.

Dr. Partha Sarathi Das spoke about the enormous scope of learning for students during training at the National Library. Dr. Soumen Mallik, Head, Dept. of Library and Information Science, added that the MoU will expand horizons for students and facilitate joint organization of academic seminars, trainings and workshops.

Mr. Krishanu Chattopadhyay and Mr. Soumen Kumar Mondal, Assistant Library and Information Officers, National Library, welcomed the MoU and emphasized the prospect of academic engagement with the vast and unique special collections of the National Library.

Certificate Distribution Ceremony for Defence Personnel at Vidyasagar University 🎓

A certificate distribution ceremony was organised today at Vidyasagar University to mark the successful completion of the six-month Advanced Certificate Course on "Entrepreneurship Development through Biodiversity Studies".

The course is designed to equip defence personnel with entrepreneurial skills based on biodiversity and its sustainable utilisation.

The programme was graced by Prof. Dipak Kumar Kar, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Vidyasagar University, who in his inaugural address highlighted the importance of skill development initiatives and congratulated all participants for their dedication and successful completion.

Present on the occasion were Prof. Paresh Chandra Jana, Dean, Faculty of Science; Dr. Jayanta Kishore Nandi, Registrar; Prof. Prakash Karmakar, Course Coordinator; Dr. Saudeep Kumar Sau, Programme Officer; and Dr. Ujjwal Ghatak, Academic Advisor, along with other faculty members.

Vidyasagar University has already successfully conducted four such courses for defence personnel, while two more are currently underway.

All these programmes are sanctioned by the Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR), Ministry of Defence, Government of India, creating new avenues for entrepreneurship, self-reliance and post-service opportunities for our defence personnel.

Nesha Mukta Bharat Abhiyan at Vidyasagar University 🕊️

Midnapore, 20 August 2026: Vidyasagar University, in collaboration with Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, organized the Nesha Mukta Bharat Abhiyan programme at A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Hall.

Held as part of the 100 Weeks Nesha Mukta Bharat Abhiyan, the initiative aims to spread awareness among youth about the harmful effects of substance abuse and to promote a healthy, positive and addiction-free lifestyle.

The programme witnessed active participation from around 130 students of Vidyasagar University. Sessions included meditation, awareness talks and motivational lectures focusing on mental well-being, self-discipline, positive thinking and staying away from addiction.

Speakers from Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya:
Brahma Kumari Kakoli Bon, Brahma Kumari Soma Bon and Brahma Kumari Dhananjay Bhai led the sessions.
