আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস ও ভাষা শহীদ দিবস উদযাপন

২১ ফেব্রুয়ারি ২০২৬ তারিখে মেখলিগঞ্জ কলেজে যথাযোগ্য মর্যাদার সঙ্গে আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস ও ভাষা শহীদ দিবস উদযাপন করা হয়।
অনুষ্ঠানের সূচনায় সকল ছাত্র-ছাত্রী অধ্যাপক-অধ্যাপিকা, শিক্ষাকর্মীর উপস্থিতিতে ভাষা শহীদদের স্মৃতির প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা জানিয়ে এক মিনিট নীরবতা পালনের মধ্য দিয়ে ভাষা আন্দোলনের শহীদদের আত্মত্যাগকে স্মরণ করে অনুষ্ঠানের শুভ সূচনা হয়।
এরপর স্বাগত ভাষণ প্রদান করেন বাংলা বিভাগের অধ্যাপক শ্রী ভগীরথ দাস। তিনি তাঁর বক্তব্যে মাতৃভাষার গুরুত্ব, ভাষা আন্দোলনের ইতিহাস এবং বর্তমান প্রেক্ষাপটে বাংলা ভাষার মর্যাদা রক্ষার প্রয়োজনীয়তা তুলে ধরেন।
অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন কলেজের অধ্যক্ষ ড. মিঠু দেব। তিনি ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারির ঐতিহাসিক তাৎপর্য, ভাষা আন্দোলনের পটভূমি এবং মাতৃভাষার সাংস্কৃতিক ও মানসিক গুরুত্ব সম্পর্কে বিশদ আলোচনা করেন। তিনি শিক্ষার্থীদের মাতৃভাষার প্রতি শ্রদ্ধাশীল ও সচেতন থাকার আহ্বান জানান। উপস্থিত ছিলেন রাষ্ট্রবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের বিভাগীয় প্রধান শ্রী প্রসেনজিৎ সাহা মহাশয়।
এরপর ইংরেজি বিভাগের অধ্যাপক শ্রীযুক্ত সুরেশ চন্দ্র রায় বক্তব্য প্রদান করেন। তিনি ভাষার বহুমাত্রিক ভূমিকা এবং বৈশ্বিক পরিসরে মাতৃভাষার প্রাসঙ্গিকতা সম্পর্কে আলোকপাত করেন।
সাংস্কৃতিক পর্বে ছাত্র-ছাত্রীদের অংশগ্রহণ অনুষ্ঠানে বিশেষ মাত্রা যোগ করে। কবিতা আবৃত্তি করেন প্রীতি ঠাকুর, রুপালি খাতুন, হেমশ্রী রায়, প্রেয়সী বর্মন, মোনালিসা পারভিন এবং তানজিনা পারভিন। তাঁদের আবৃত্তির মাধ্যমে ভাষা শহীদদের স্মরণ এবং মাতৃভাষার প্রতি ভালোবাসা গভীরভাবে প্রকাশ পায়।
ছাত্র অনিমেষ রায় সংক্ষিপ্ত বক্তব্যে ভাষা আন্দোলনের চেতনা ধারণ করে এগিয়ে চলার অঙ্গীকার ব্যক্ত করেন। সঙ্গীত পরিবেশন করেন ছাত্র বিশ্বনাথ বর্মন, যা অনুষ্ঠানে আবেগঘন পরিবেশ সৃষ্টি করে। নৃত্য পরিবেশন করেন মিস্টু নাহা ও তানিয়া হালদার; তাঁদের পরিবেশনা উপস্থিত দর্শকদের মুগ্ধ করে।
সমগ্র অনুষ্ঠানটি সুশৃঙ্খল ও মর্যাদাপূর্ণ পরিবেশে সম্পন্ন হয়। আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস ও ভাষা শহীদ দিবস উপলক্ষে আয়োজিত এই অনুষ্ঠান শিক্ষার্থীদের কাছে ভাষা আন্দোলনের ইতিহাস ও তাৎপর্য সম্পর্কে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধিতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করেছে। সমগ্র অনুষ্ঠানটি পরিচালনা করেন বাংলা বিভাগের সহকারী অধ্যাপক ড. চিত্তরঞ্জন বর্মন।
Celebration of International Mother Language Day and Language Martyrs’ Day

On 21 February 2026, International Mother Language Day and Language Martyrs’ Day were observed at Mekhliganj College with due solemnity and respect.
The programme commenced with a one-minute silence observed by all students, faculty members and staff to pay homage to the language martyrs. Through this silent tribute, the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs of the Language Movement was respectfully remembered, marking the formal inauguration of the event.
The welcome address was delivered by Mr. Bhagirath Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Bengali. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of the mother tongue, the history of the Language Movement, and the necessity of preserving the dignity of the Bengali language in the present context.
The Principal of the college, Dr. Mithu Deb, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She elaborately discussed the historical significance of 21 February, the background of the Language Movement, and the cultural and psychological importance of the mother tongue. She also urged the students to remain respectful and conscious about their linguistic heritage. Mr. Prasenjit Saha, Head of the Department of Political Science, was also present on the occasion.
Subsequently, Mr. Suresh Chandra Ray, Assistant Professor, Department of English, delivered his speech. He shed light on the multidimensional role of language and the relevance of the mother tongue in the global context.
The cultural segment added special significance to the programme with active participation from students. Poems were recited by Preeti Thakur, Rupali Khatun, Hemashree Ray, Preyoshi Barman, Monalisa Parvin and Tanzina Parvin. Their recitations beautifully expressed reverence for the language martyrs and love for the mother tongue.
Student Animesh Ray delivered a brief speech, expressing his commitment to upholding the spirit of the Language Movement. A song was performed by student Bishwanath Barman, creating an emotional atmosphere. Dance performances by Mistu Naha and Taniya Halder captivated the audience.
The entire programme was conducted in a disciplined and dignified manner. The celebration of International Mother Language Day and Language Martyrs’ Day played a significant role in enhancing students’ awareness of the history and importance of the Language Movement.
The programme was anchored and coordinated by Dr. Chittaranjan Barman, Assistant Professor, Department of Bengali.
