The National Initiative on Undergraduate Science (NIUS) programme organized by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE-TIFR), Mumbai is designed to provide extended mentoring and guidance to undergraduate students in various areas of science. Till last year the Physics component of NIUS included Astronomy and Astrophysics as well. This year the NIUS (Astronomy) programme will be held separately.

The NIUS (Astronomy) programme will include an enrichment camp in June-July 2022 held partly in online and partly in onsite mode at a major research institute. Following this, there will be opportunities for some students to take up long-term projects under mentors in various research institutes in India. Apart from the project opportunity, there will be mini-workshops in the first camp itself with real astronomical data to give the students a flavour of "doing research".

First-year undergraduate students in 3-yr B.Sc. (Physics), 4/5-yr BS/B.Tech/B.E. and 5-yr Integrated M.Sc. programmes with a strong interest in Physics are eligible to apply.

I request you to kindly spread this news among your students and colleagues in other institutions and encourage eligible students to apply. If possible, please print the attached poster and put it up prominently in your institution. More details are available in the announcement on our website:
