Gudi Padwa is the Marathi New Year, celebrated to mark the beginning of spring and the harvest season.
It is celebrated for various reasons :
New Beginnings: It marks the first day of the Hindu lunar calendar (Chaitra month) and the day Lord Brahma is said to have created the universe
Victory of Good: It commemorates Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana
Historical Pride: It honors the victories of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the start of the Shalivahan calendar
Prosperity: Hoisting the Gudi (the decorated pole) is believed to ward off evil and invite luck and good health into the home
