NSTI-W Mumbai Team (Apparel Sector) Secures National First Prize, Wins ₹1,00,000
Under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, the team “Traditional Threads” from NSTI-W Mumbai (CITS FDT )secured First Prize at the national level in the “Kaushal se Udyamita – Navonmesh Protsahan Spardha 2025–26”, bringing great pride to the institute.
A total of 773 entries were received from across the country. Through a rigorous multi-stage selection process, the entries were shortlisted to 100, then 30, and finally the top 3 teams. NSTI-W Mumbai successfully reached the final stage and emerged as the national winner.
The winning team comprises Priyanshi Nigam and Surbhi Supriya, trainees of CITS Fashion Design & Technology. The team was awarded a cash prize of ₹1,00,000 for this remarkable achievement.
The project focuses on transforming the traditional single-use bridal lehenga into reusable, sustainable, and commercially viable products. It presents an innovative approach that bridges traditional Indian embroidery and handicrafts with modern design, market relevance, and entrepreneurship opportunities.
This success was achieved under the valuable guidance of Dr. Vandana Jarolia, Training Officer (CITS, Fashion Design & Technology), NSTI-W Mumbai. Under her mentorship, the trainees effectively integrated technical skills with innovation and entrepreneurial thinking.
The support of the Institute’s Principal was also instrumental in this achievement. Furthermore, the team was appreciated and encouraged by Joint Director Shri G. Venkatesh and Regional Director Shri C. S. Murti for their outstanding performance.
The competition was organized at NSTI Bengaluru in collaboration with DGT and BITS Pilani, with participation from various training institutes across the country.
