The Department of Music, University of Mumbai, organised “Aamchi Maifil” on 10 September 2026.

The programme was conceived as a platform by the students, for the students, and that spirit was reflected throughout the event. The atmosphere was lively, spontaneous and full of youthful energy, while retaining the discipline and seriousness of classical music performance. Students participated with enthusiasm, and the encouraging response from their peers added warmth and vibrancy to the programme.

The student performers were Darshil Pant (MPA) – Vocal, Krushabh Sharma (BPA) – Bansuri, Sanhita Thakur (MPA) – Vocal, Sanjana Guha (MPA) – Vocal, and Kaivalya Raikar and Niyati Dharne – Harmonium Duet. Their presentations showcased the range of vocal and instrumental training within the Department and reflected the confidence, commitment and enthusiasm of its students.

The event was further enriched by the participation of Dr. Ketaki Chaitanya, an alumna of the Department, whose classical vocal presentation added a special dimension to the programme and strengthened the continuing bond between the Department and its former students.

The performers were supported by accompanying artists Shri Aashay Borkar, Shri Omkar Nene, Shri Mandar Rupji and Shri Nishad Karalagikar, whose contribution added depth and completeness to the musical presentations.

A special moment of the programme was the felicitation of students who brought laurels to the Department through their prize-winning performances at the Zonal Round of the University Youth Festival. The students were felicitated at the hands of Dr. Maneesha Kulkarni, Head, Department of Music, University of Mumbai, in the presence of fellow students and teachers, adding a note of pride, recognition and encouragement to the occasion.

The programme was compered by students of the Department, Smt. Monica Bhatnagar and Shri Pradeep Tamboli, whose confident and lively presentation helped maintain the flow and energy of the event.

More than a formal concert, Aamchi Maifil became a shared musical space where students could perform, listen, interact, encourage one another and build confidence on stage. The high energy of the programme reflected what the initiative represents at its core: a musical platform created by students, for students, and sustained through collective participation.

The Department of Music looks forward to continuing Aamchi Maifil as a vibrant platform that brings together students, alumni, teachers, accompanists and rasikas through music.
