The Tata Institute of Social Sciences successfully conducted its 86th Annual Convocation, with Dr. C.S. Pramesh (Director, Tata Memorial Hospital) as the Chief Guest. The Convocation was presided over by the TISS Chancellor, Prof. D.P. Singh. At the Convocation, a total of 1,376 students and scholars were awarded their Ph.D, Master’s, Bachelor's, B.Ed.-M.Ed., and Dual Degrees. The first batch of Bachelor's in Analytics and Sustainability also graduated today. More than 200 students were awarded medals, shields and prizes in recognition of their academic excellence.

The 86th Convocation ceremony commenced with the National Song, followed by the National Anthem and the Institute Song, “Jayati Jayati Vidya Sansthan”, lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the recitation of the Saraswati Vandana.

After the TISS Chancellor formally declared the Convocation open, the TISS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Badri Narayan Tiwari welcomed the gathering and presented the Annual Report for the academic year 2025–2026. Prof. Tiwari reflected on a year of academic renewal, institutional growth, wider national outreach through TISS Bharat and expanding global engagement through TISS Global. In the Institute's 90th year, he called upon the community to carry forward its legacy with courage, imagination and a renewed commitment to knowledge in the service of society.

Following the Vice-Chancellor’s reading of the resolution for the conferral of degrees, the Chancellor administered the oath to the graduating students. In his Presidential Address, Chancellor D.P. Singh celebrated the Institute’s 90-year legacy of knowledge, inclusion and service, and urged the graduating students to use their education with integrity, compassion and purpose. He reminded them that true success lies not merely in personal achievement, but in the positive difference they make to society.

The Chief Guest, Dr. C.S. Pramesh, delivered an inspiring Convocation Address. He urged the graduating students to draw inspiration from the way TISS conducts itself, guided by a strong moral vision that places justice, dignity and accountability at the heart of its work.

He encouraged the students to recognise that their responsibility extends beyond simply navigating challenges and moving forward. Instead, they should strive to improve the systems and communities around them. While some changes may bring immediate and visible results, he noted that progress more often comes through small, consistent steps taken over time.

Prof. Sunil D. Santha, Dean, Academic Affairs, delivered the Vote of Thanks, after which the Chancellor declared the Convocation closed. The ceremony concluded with the National Song and the National Anthem, marking the official closure of the 86th Annual Convocation.

Please join us in congratulating all those who received their degrees today and in wishing them every success as they embark on fulfilling and impactful careers.

90 years of TISS. 100 years of global social work. One shared commitment to social transformation.

TISS congratulates, Prof. P. K. Shajahan (Professor, Centre for Community Organisation and Development Practice, School of Social Work) on his nomination as a member of the International Programme Committee for the 2028 Joint World Conference on Social Work Education and Social Development (SWSD 2028) in Paris.

The centenary conference carries a special historical significance. IASSW, ICSW and IFSW were founded in Paris in 1928, and in 2028, the city will once again bring together the global social work community to reflect on a century of the profession and look towards its future.

As part of TISS Navati, this moment also reflects TISS's enduring commitment to advancing knowledge, practice and dialogue beyond borders—at the heart of the Institute's TISS Global vision.

Congratulations, Professor!

With the Tricolour fluttering high, TISS Mumbai observed India’s 80th Independence Day with pride and a strong sense of unity.

Students set the tone with a spirited Tiranga Yatra, marching from the Naoroji Campus to the Main Campus and spreading the spirit of national pride along the way.

The programme commenced with Vande Mataram, followed by the National Flag hoisting ceremony led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Badri Narayan Tiwari. We were privileged to welcome Padma Shri Shri Dada Idate as Chief Guest and Prof. D. K. Srivastava (Former Vice Chairman, UGC) as Special Guest. The gathering was further enriched by the presence of Dr. Narendra Mishra (Officiating Registrar), Deans, faculty, staff and students.

Dignitaries shared inspiring thoughts, after which students presented colourful cultural performances reflecting India’s rich diversity. Dr Vaishali Kolhe (Associate Dean, Students’ Affairs) welcomed the esteemed guests, and Dr Josephine Anthony (Assistant Dean, Students’ Affairs) proposed the Vote of Thanks.

On this meaningful day, TISS renews its dedication to justice, equality and inclusion — values at the heart of its mission.
