Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 | TISS Mumbai

The 2026 edition of Swachhata Hi Seva was inaugurated at TISS Mumbai, on 25 September 2026, marking the beginning of a month-long campaign for cleanliness, participation and collective responsibility.

The programme commenced with a welcome by a member of the TISS Student Council, followed by an introduction to Swachhata Hi Seva by Dr. Josephine Anthony (Assistant Dean, Office of Student Affairs and TISS Nodal Officer, SHS 2026).

Prof. M. Mariappan (Dean, Students’ Affairs), formally declared the commencement of the TISS Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign and the activities planned across the Institute. The campaign, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a clean India, reminds us that cleanliness is a shared responsibility of every member of the TISS community.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Anthony highlighted the importance of collective participation and sustained action: “We have to keep our surroundings clean through collective effort. This year’s campaign emphasises participation. We are carrying out this campaign not only here in our Mumbai campuses but also in the Tuljapur, Hyderabad and Guwahati campuses.”

The campaign will focus on strengthening cleanliness and sustainable practices across academic and administrative spaces, schools and hostels, in alignment with the key pillars of Swachhata Hi Seva, with active participation from students, faculty and staff.

The programme also included the Swachhata Pledge, led by Mr. Santosh Palve (Officiating Assistant Registrar) in English, followed by the Hindi version of the pledge led by a student. Students also participated in a digital pledge, reinforcing their commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable campus. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Dilip Kale, OSA.

Swachhata is not just an activity - it is a shared responsibility and a collective commitment.

The Office of Alum Affairs (OAA) and the Health Centre of TISS Mumbai organised a CPR & AED Training Programme for Students Council members, Hostel Attendants, Security Staff, Wardens and other members of the TISS community, in collaboration with Doctors For You on 19 September 2026. The training programme focused on building knowledge and practical awareness, along with hands-on skills for responding to sudden cardiac arrest and other medical emergencies, including the appropriate use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

The training was facilitated by the dedicated team from DFY under the leadership of Dr. Rajat Jain (President, DFY), Dr. Vaishali Venu (Director, Health and Nutrition, DFY), and Dr. Lehar (Senior Consultant, DFY). The training was part of DFY’s Jeevan Raksha Project, a pan-India initiative to strengthen emergency services through CPR and AED training for college students and youth.

The TISS training began with an Inauguration Session for the DFY authorities. Our Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Badri Narayan Tiwari, Officiating Registrar Dr. Narendra Mishra, Dr. Vaishali Kolhe (Officiating Dean, OAA), and Dr. Nilesh Gawde (Chairperson, Health Centre) appreciated the Jeevan Raksha Project of DFY.

TISS extends its appreciation to the DFY’s CPR training team for conducting an engaging, practical and hands-on session and to TISS alumna Dr. Prajakta Verma IAS, IAS (Additional Municipal Commissioner, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation), for her support in organising this training programme. We are also grateful to the TISS Alums who facilitated the donation of an AED machine to the TISS Health Centre. By building CPR and emergency-response awareness across our campus community, TISS takes another step towards creating a more informed and resilient campus.

The Office of Alum Affairs (OAA) and the Health Centre of TISS Mumbai organised a CPR & AED Training Programme for Students Council members, Hostel Attendants, Security Staff, Wardens and other members of the TISS community, in collaboration with Doctors For You (DFY) on 19 September 2026. The training programme focused on building knowledge and practical awareness, along with hands-on skills for responding to sudden cardiac arrest and other medical emergencies, including the appropriate use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Doctors for You has worked in the health sector for the past 19 years to strengthen emergency response, healthcare delivery, and community capacity-building. This reflects the importance of taking essential health skills beyond clinical settings and into communities.

Congratulations to Dr. Praveen Kumar for being awarded the DAAD GROW Fellowship 2026.

Dr. Praveen Kumar (Assistant Professor, Labour Market Research Facility, School of Management and Labour Studies, TISS Mumbai), has been awarded the DAAD GROW – Global Research Opportunities for the South Fellowship 2026.

Under this Fellowship, Dr. Kumar will undertake a research stay at the Humboldt University of Berlin and Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF), Müncheberg, Germany. The Fellowship will support an Indo-German research collaboration on smallholder farmers’ risk and resilience, focusing on socio-ecological approaches and sustainable agricultural transitions in the Global South. Congratulations to Dr. Praveen Kumar for being awarded the DAAD GROW Fellowship 2026.

TISS Guwahati Off-Campus Delegation Meets Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam

A delegation from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Guwahati Off-Campus, met the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, on 16 September 2026.

The delegation comprising Prof. Jagannath Ambagudia (Campus Director, TISS Guwahati Off-Campus), Prof. Kalpana Sarathy (Dean, School of Social Work, TISS Guwahati ), Dr. Minakshi Buragohain (Assistant Professor and Chairperson, Centre for Undergraduate Studies) and Mr. Simanta Borah (Administrative Officer, TISS Guwahati), had a brief and engaging interaction with the Hon’ble Chief Minister.

Prof. Jagannath Ambagudia handed over a cheque to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, representing one day’s salary contributed by the faculty members of TISS Guwahati Off-Campus, in support of those affected by the recent floods in Assam.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister took keen interest in learning about TISS and its campuses, with particular interest in the Guwahati Off-Campus. He also enquired about the progress of the girls’ hostel construction, made possible through a grant sanctioned by the Government of Assam.

Recalling his earlier visit to the Campus, the Hon’ble Chief Minister assured continued support from the Government of Assam and expressed his desire to visit the Campus again.

The delegation expressed its gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister for his continued support to TISS Guwahati Off-Campus and conveyed its keen interest in undertaking research studies that can contribute to policymaking in Assam.

The visit was facilitated through the efforts of Dr. Krishna Kumar Dwivedi, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister of Assam.
